Underground Forever (Who We Are)

"I need you to trust me. You have got to keep the faith. All we need is one more job."
- Jorus Merrill, probably
This whole way of life is pretty much done.
It comes and it goes with the dawn of each new era. There's a great calamity, civilization crumbles, and out of the ashes a new one is born. For a short time, a brief and glorious age of wonder and exploration, its possible to ride this new frontier, if you're clever enough you can stay one step ahead of civilization until the tide comes crashing back in. You can be free.
And then the pendulum swings. It always starts with good intentions, law and order and rules to enforce decency throughout the galaxy. And then when the hegemonies and collectives and federations finally control it all, it won't be long until there's another great calamity and the cycle starts all over again.
There's precious few places left where a body can truly decide for themselves what to make of their lot, and that list is growing smaller every day. The ones who came before us dreamed of breaking the cycle, of casting out all the tyrants and finally keeping it that way. All we can do now is try and slow it down, the best we can.

THE UNDERGROUND is a clandestine brotherhood of elite warriors and operatives from worlds throughout the Outer Rim and beyond who have sworn an oath to watch over Coalition space, battling tyranny and corruption wherever it may be found. To be an agent of the Underground is to be a part of a surrogate family, joined together in purpose even when lightyears apart.

In the earliest days of the Underground there were strong leaders who served as beacons to guide the way to a new dawn, but now it is a largely self driven and autonomous organization, almost like a secret society in its established traditions and decentralized regional chapters. Each cell's singular unifying principle an unshakeable devotion to their founders' guiding doctrine; liberty or death.

While many among the Underground have elected to step forth from the shadows and serve as Judges or Wardens of the Sky, some remain hidden in plain sight, watching over worlds and even whole sectors. These Watchmen are the last line of defense in a remote region of the galaxy often prone to oppression and conquest.

This generation of Underground agents may be the last, the Outer Rim stands on the brink and the age of lawless paradise may soon be ending. Time will tell, but the brotherhood is not content to go out with a whimper.
