Production: Limited
Material: Durasteel, Alusteel, and other turbolaser construction materials.
Description:

In Asahian history and tradition, large guns hold a warm, cozy spot near and dear to the heart. Because of this, seafaring vessels on Asahi, namely the larger warships, carried large caliber, heavy hitting armaments. This was for two reasons: First, to dominate offensive firing capabilities and, second, to crack the tougher armor of the enemy's big warships. With this tradition and generations of history to influence the Asahian's foray into the Galaxy and its conflicts, the Tanaka Orbital Shipyards have brought tradition to the modern age.

Enter the Umi Ganzu-class Battleship Cannons. Designed to provide powerful fire support capable of knocking down shields and shredding armor with ease, these Battleship-grade guns are only found on the largest of Asahian warships. The guns are capable of firing a large, heavy hitting turbolaser round at medium ranges with accuracy, though beyond mid-range distances a distinct lack of accuracy is highly noticeable. Normally fielded in turrets with four of these guns as a battery on Battleships, the Umi Ganzu has had some speculation as an orbital defense gun or potentially as a spinal/fixed mount on smaller ships, though this is just speculation and theory. In essence, the Umi Ganzu-class guns are the heaviest weapons in the Asahian arsenal and have more than earned that reputation.

The guns do have problems, however. The guns are heavy and cumbersome, adding to their inaccuracy at long ranges. However, because the guns are installed on standard, large sized turrets which are not specially designed for the Umi Ganzu's weight, the turrets are slow to turn and track due to the heavy mass. Because of this, the Umi Ganzu have a great amount of trouble and inaccuracy at targeting ships smaller than a heavy cruiser at all but the closest of ranges. Also, because of the cannons' heavy power levels, the guns have a slower rate of fire, each barrel only capable of firing two to four rounds a minute. Also, while the guns themselves are very resilient and hardy, the couplings and mountings at the base within the turret are vulnerable to damage due to the fragile nature of turbolaser workings, especially heavy variants. Should enemy fire penetrate the turret armor and reach the internal workings of the turret, the guns will, at best, cease working reliably until repairs are completed. At worst, the guns will fall silent and, potentially, the turret may explode from the energy feedback.

(OOC: I figured these turrets at about 15 guns per barrel. As they're only fielded in batteries of four, the total for a turreted battery would be 60 Capital Ship Guns.)

[member="Juro Tanaka"] - Straightforward barrel consolidation for heavy ships, unable to target smaller capships accurately, getting the tiny simplifying bump to 15 because of that major drawback - I have no problem stamping this, and I'm told it's been run past the starship judges. Not that it really needs it; this is as vanilla as it gets. Approved pending secondary.
