STRENGTHS

Layered Detection Denial: The Skyblind suite, Fisheye color-matching plating, reflec/stygian polymer coating, and gravitic modulator each defeat a different detection method visual, electromagnetic, optical, and mass-based at once. An enemy sensor operator has to beat all four independently rather than find one gap to exploit.

Multi-Role Sustained Firepower: Four retractable pulse cannons, twin variable-ordnance racks, and twin flak-blaster arrays all boosted to galactic standard by the ZZ90 system give the Umbra a real answer to fighters, armor, and incoming ordnance without needing to break off and reconfigure between threats.

Autonomous Systems Handling: The onboard droid-mod AI runs the ship's major systems independently, freeing the pilot to focus on flying and targeting instead of manually juggling shields, sensors, and countermeasures mid-engagement.

Redundant Defensive Layering: Ablative reinforcement, a reinforced shield generator, mag-shielding, and the Force-Dome stack on top of one another, so the loss of any single defensive layer doesn't immediately expose the hull underneath.

WEAKNESSES

Not a True Cloak
: Despite stacking four separate detection-denial systems, the Umbra is still sensor-quiet rather than invisible, close-range visual contact, Force-sensitive perception, and purpose-built counter-stealth sensors can still find it.

Thin Field Presence: A Low squadron count of 8 means the Umbra cannot commit to prolonged, large-scale engagements or absorb attrition the way a more numerous fighter wing could.

Centralized System Dependency: Because the droid-mod AI runs the ship's major systems as a single point of control, a successful intrusion, ion strike, or AI disruption risks compromising its stealth, weapons, and defenses all at once rather than in isolation.

Description

Developed by Kuat Systems Consortium between 902 and 904 ABY, the Umbra-class is a semi-stealth strike fighter built for precision attacks and rapid disengagement. Its layered detection-denial systems reduce visual, electromagnetic, optical, and mass signatures, while retractable weapons, advanced countermeasures, and a droid-mod AI give a single pilot exceptional offensive and defensive control. Though not truly invisible and fielded only in limited numbers, the Umbra is a fast, heavily protected hunter designed to strike before the enemy can respond.
