Description:

The U-Wing is a remake of a vessel that saw very limited use with the Rebel Alliance in the Galactic civil war. This version has been modernised and fitted with a repeater that drops down from the ventral hull rather than relying on a gunner firing from the hold.

The GADF doctrine relies on smaller numbers of infantry being exceedingly mobile in combat, rather than large scale combined forces assaults designed to overwhelm the opposite. The Alliance tries to remain flexible and keep its operation tempo inside that of the opposition. As part of this strategy troops need a quick and hardy gunship that can take a squad of troops into the heart of battle, provide support and then extraction.

The U-Wing's S-foils are typically folded back in atmospheric combat to provide additional manoeuvrability. They are usually locked forwards when in space and during landing.

Two pilots have tandem controls and can each take over as required. Either can bring up a targeting computer and controls to fire the main cannons or ventral repeater. Troops can disembark from either side of the hold.

The U-Wing is very tough, and can sustain a large amount of small arms fire, or weather a run from a star-fighter and keep flying.
