STRENGTHS
- Destroyer: This escort craft was designed from the ground up to be a master of the ambush. The exceptional maneuverability of this vessel allows them to control their distance and avoid enemy attacks while sneaking up on enemy ships.
- Pack tactics: The Boa comes with a special feature standard across every design that truly draws it's fame and attention. Every Boa within a strike group can actively feed combat information across a wide area to other Boas. This is then displayed on the center command console within the bridge.
- Close knit: This vessel was never designed with starfighter support in mind, instead it would rely on wolf pack tactics with other of the same vessel to tackle stronger opponents. Of course, this means that the vessel can be caught in headlights alone, as it doesn't have even a single aircraft to defend itself with.
- Glass cannon: For all of it's strength in speed and firepower, the vessel was never designed to take much more abuse than a Corvette, and being a class larger makes it easy pickings for any
- Exposed:The command bridge of this frigate shares a similar weakness to many imperial vessels in that it is significantly above the rest of the vessel.
When empires fall into ruin, it is those on the outer rim that suffer the most. The constant bickering of higher powers had allowed piracy to thrive for generations after a major conflict that shifted the galactic scale. Even worse, as those pirates grew in strength and numbers, the vital resources provided by the outer colonies began to fall into the wrong hands, and only then did the deep core truly begin to ask questions. There were many responses, some far more successful than others. For one, the Corellian Engineering Corporation decided to provide a light escort ship to the outer colonies that was dirt cheap compared to other frigates using a redesigned Raider-Class corvette that was upscaled and strapped with heavier guns and engines. The hanger compartment was removed from the design and replaced with crew complements and provision storage.
The Type VII-ES vessel accommodates a working crew of 140 and is equipped with a complement of 45 soldiers tasked with repelling pirates and conducting inspection operations through the use of two boarding tubes located on either side of the vessel. In total this escort craft can sustain itself for 5 months travel. the contains an advanced targeting suite designed to quickly allocate targets of starfighter size and larger. The advanced commutations suite were also design standard, allowing the bao to share information with other ships of it's class and fleet, this made the vessel significantly more deadly when hunting in a pack.
Despite the benefits that the Bao offered, it wasn't long before large quantities of these vessels fell into the hands of pirates. Their anti-starfighter capabilities were turned on the good people of the outer rim, prompting authorities to can the project after mounting pressure on CEC. However, by this point, thousands of Baos were already in service across the outer rim, where many proved to be valuable assets in their intended roles. And so they would remain. While CEC produced limited parts upon request, the vessel largely fell into obscurity beyond the reaches it would patrol and occasionally raid.
