Everything was in place.

The time had come for the Xioquo to finally pay the price for their continued raids and inability to negotiate. This was an operation in the making for months, spurred by recent raids by the Xioquo on the Eldorai and their Qadiri allies.

Now Nemesis had come.

Planning Room, Coalition Battleship ‘Phoenix’

A holomap of the area was waiting for the meeting to begin. Present and leading the campaign would be Siobhan Kerrigan, Tegaea Alcori and Aeda Shaytari, though others would be present too.

Underealm%20Exterior.png

Tegaea, who would be handling the strategic picture whilst Siobhan led the tactical assault, pointed to the map.

“As you can see, there are two strong fortifications guarding the sea entrance. These must be captured or disabled for the operation to proceed.”
She pointed to the two strong bastions guarding the channel. The high walls had proved immune to the Qadiri artillery, but modern Firemane weapons would make short work of it, leaving the ruins to be captured and secured.

“Meanwhile, our Qadiri allies are approaching from the west, over the snow. We will be sending a force of commandos to land on the beach near their location and assist them. Their goal will be securing the two gates, penetrating them, to allow their access within. Based on detailed information acquired by spies and escaped slaves, we have an idea of the inside, but discussion on that can wait for now.”
The cliff doorways would be the most serviceable entrances for the large Qadiri army marching to assist their allies. These doorways were formidable barriers, but it was believed that some shaped charges would break them open.

“With those secured we will be able to enter the Underealm by water. Doing so will enable us to bring in reinforcements quickly, as the river is the quickest means of moving around.”

The image now showed the Underealm’s exterior, a formidable stronghold. It would not be an easy attack.

“Countess, do you have anything to add?” she asked her wife politely.

Firemane Gunship
Hovering high above the ground, @Tempest’s unit prepared for action. Their goal was to attack the eastern fortification whilst the Eldorai and Angelii attacked the western.

Locations:
  • Command ship for high-ranking officers.
  • Gunships for those assaulting the coastal forts.
  • Ground for those accompanying the Qadiri army.
  • Landing ships for those attacking the gates.

Feel free to improvise. Our enemy are essentially Drow with early 20th century technology and many Dark Side using warriors and sea beasts.

((There's no strict posting order since there's several groups and targets. So write things organically and proceed at your own pace. For now we're still in a preparatory stage. Hop in where you want.))

Planning Room, Coalition battleship.

So here they were now. After many skirmishes, they'd be taking the fight to the subterranean Xioquo capital itself, seize the city and put an end to their reign of terror. It was the price for the Xioquo's unwillingness to cease their raids and negotiate. Of course, this neat argumentation disregarded the fact that the Eldorai had occupied former Xioquo territory. But the drows were as vicious and cruel as the Sith, so they were not making a good case for themselves.

The Eldorai's unwieldy Qadiri allies thirsted for revenge after suffering a savage defeat during their own assault on the Underealm and had fought the drows for many centuries before offworlders had ever set foot on the planet. So a large army of theirs was joining the invasion.

"Thank you," Siobhan produced a pen and pointed to one of the fortifications on the map. "The forts are strong bastions by local standards, so our troops will be handling them after aerial and artilley bombardment to make short work of enemy artillery. A company-sized Firemane force will attack the eastern fort, an Angelii company the western. The forts are manned by the Xioquo's A-team, complete with Forcers and what seems to be their equivalent of Sithspawn, but they've grown reliant on the walls being too strong for Qadiri artillery to penetrate. Light Mag'ladroth walkers will be dropped from air to provide support." The light variant of the one-person assault walker was able to use jet wings and thus possessed limited flight capability, while still being formidable combat units.

Her pen moved towards the holographic projection of the cliff doorways. "Two batteries of Thunderers will be with the Qadiri army to provide artillery support. They'll be able to hit the forts from there, too. Eldorai 'advisers' have been assigned to the Qadiri army to coordinate."

This was an euphemism that obscured the real chain of command. Like many colonialist conquerors, Siobhan had a low opinion of most native officers. Then again, the Mirza of Lakish had led her army straight into disaster when she rode boldly and well into the jaws of death. "The Anusiya will be spearheading the charge, along with new model army Qadiri soldiers equipped with the best weapons Firemane provided. Ideally the Xioquo will charge into the open where we can maul them with artillery."

Either way, there would be fierce fighting, but the simultaneous assault on the forts should help and their fall would be a morale boost for the Qadiri. Moreover, the Anusiya were Semiramis' best warriors. They were the Qadiri version of the Angelii.

"Our heavy armour will be going with the fleet. Once we cross the water, our ships will be hit by kraken. It's guaranteed. They're big, mean and hungry. We'll have to use our heaviest weapons against them. Xioquo armour was on full display during the Qadiri's doomed assault. It's steam-powered and crap by galactic standards. Most of the mechanical craft are vulnerable even to bolter fire, but still a suitable anti-personnel platform. Their war beasts are big Sithspawn. What's more troubling are their black magicks. Think Sith sorcery, only with a whole culture devoted to it. We faced mentalism during the earlier battle. Moreover, escaped slaves report that the Xioquo have been carrying out mass sacrifices. Hundreds, thousands of captives and 'heretics' being slaughtered to fuel...something. We've hired a...specialist to help us deal with this." If Ms Tanaka betrayed her, Siobhan would make sure her death was long and painful. Nor would 'Lady Vader' take kindly to failure.

((All Angelii chars are welcome to spawn here)

Aboard an Eldorai Gunship.

Today was the day of reckoning. High above ground, the Firemane-designed Gunship was hovering in the air. Like a hawk, the mechanical bird waited for the huntress to let it loose so that it could stalk, swoop down and catch its prey to sink its talons into it.

The black, heavily armoured bird was endowed with a formidable array of weapons and its insides were crammed full of amazonian Eldorai Sciians kitted out with the finest gear Eldorai State Arms and Firemane Industries had developed. These were the Angelii, the praetorian guard of templars who wielded the Force as a instrument to serve the Star Queen and the Eldorai Matriarchy. As usual, they would be the first to be thrown into the meat grinder.

The map provided to Red Company, First Legion, floated in the air above the metal floor of the craft's cargo bay, projected from a holographic imager held steady in Kaida Taldir's gauntlet-covered hand. She turned it slightly so that she could study the pattern of the guard towers that rose out of the fortress, for this was their target. Recon droids had done their job well and given them a good view of the fort.

"Less than an hour, ma'am. Once more unto the breach, right?" Host Leader Askari said, nudging her superior in the ribs, pitching her voice to be heard over the steady thrum of the rotors and the roar of engines. Kaida nodded, glancing at the junior officer. They represented a strong contrast: Kaida was tall like an amazon, enough that she never looked comfortable in the cramped confines. Moreover, she was a cryomancy and a not so secret atheist. Askari was of average height but also endowed with more pronounced muscles. She was a pyromancer and a devout believer in the Goddess Ashira.

As the mission clock display hovering in the corner of Kaida's eye line kept in ticking down, Askari gave a nod to the rest of the unit and together their final weapon and equipment checks. Kaida hefted the weight of the Mark One Bolter slung across her chest and double-checked that ammunition was in order and the safety catch was set. Contrary to what certain action holovids might tell you, walking around with the safety off outside of battle was a stupid thing to do unless you wanted to have an accident. Eyes closed, she ran her fingers over the grenades and spare clips strapped to her belt, mentally ticking them off one by one. Then she checked her lightsabre, the sonic blaster strapped to her thigh and the Taegis shield her back had been resting against.

Kaida drew a deep breath. "I'll make this quick." A junior Angelii might've suppressed the urge to burst into laughter because the Seraph was known for her brevity and her intense dislike of speeches. "We're Angelii. We don't need pep talks. Tirathana expects every Eldorai to do her duty. Rely on your battle sisters, work together, kill any hostile in sight. Fire-free zone. No prisoners."

"Check your gear a last time, girls. We'll be dropping gas, so make sure your helmet's breathing filters are in order. Say your prayers. Not all of us will survive the day, but those who die will be with Ashira," Askari chimed in, "and we'll be reunited with them one day. But let's send the Dark Ones to hell first."

"When all others break, we shall stand and conquer. For Kaeshana." The assembled soldiers' voices rose into a chorus as the words were repeated like a mantra. Kaeshana was a devastated wasteland, but lived on in their memory. As did the sisters who'd fallen on the many blood-soaked battlefields they'd fought on.

Being still a new recruit to the ranks of Angelii, Elincia didn't know about their politics that much, only bits here and there to know what's going on here from what she heard while talking to her sisters, the time spent with them made her realize that she liked being around them more than her real family so she decided to call them one. Anyway, according to them, the ones that attacked her village, Xio... whatever their name, did enough to anger the whole planet and now they were about to get their paybacks, and looking at the size of the army they were bringing to wherever they were going, it wasn't going to be a small fight. Never been in a ship before, it was cool to watch the land from up above, she could almost see her village. After this little moment of peace, she could hear a voice slowly getting near to their location, and after that, the ice lady, [member="Kaida Taldir"], appeared with all her might. Yep, she still loved calling her that even though she was told not to by everyone else. Anyway, being curious about what she was about to say, she stopped looking from the windows and turned her attention to her. Always the "talkative" one, the ice lady gave directions to the Angelii, the instructions were simple, kill and not be killed. Well, it would simplify things to have no rules at least. "You know, with the amount of coldness the ice lady radiates around, I am still surprised that the ship didn't freeze yet." She whispered to one of her sisters with a smile on her face. Oh, and she knew the Seraph could hear her, elf ears being sensitive and all, but she didn't care that much. The Angelii, though, wasn't as calm as her even though it was visible she liked the joke. "Shut up..." She said whispering back. But, Elincia was ready to answer as well as always. "That smile doesn't want me to shut up though. Am I wrong?" The Angelii just looked blankly and didn't answer back. Anyway, without making her get more scared because she thought the ice lady was going to catch them speaking, she smiled and didn't say anything else and minded her own business.

She was wearing the classic Angelii equipment, an armor that was both protective and flexible enough to move, yet she would prefer a different color; her sword, the sarix, which was good enough to cut some enemies, and a blaster pistol for emergencies. Looking back to the first days in the Angelii camp, learning about these was a pain in the neck, but now she was decent enough to be useful in fights. As for her powers, she was still having some difficulties sometimes with them, once working and other times not that useful, but she could call them without any problems with the help of other Angelii. Ice lady, no matter how hard it was to train with her, taught the young Angelii how to do stuff, and she was grateful for that. Then she checked her breathing filter as instructed by the Host Leader. Everything looked good at the side of equipment, and she wasn't planning to die today as always. So she started to wait for their deployment, sighing and looking out from the window one last time and embrace the peace before everything went all stabby and killy again. "Ashira help us all... If only you could wield a weapon and come fight alongside us..." She had a sarcastic approach to all the religion stuff.

Tegaea nodded her head as her wife concluded.
“As for what’s inside, we have acquired an inside source you might say.”
There was a small ripple as Liavondra stepped forward.
“Liavondra is the daughter of one of the high families, escaped at great personal cost and came to us. She has shared us intelligence.”
“Can she be trusted?” one of the Eldorai commanders asked, looking distastefully at the Xioquo.
“She can,” Tegaea said firmly, staring down the Eldorai. “Go on, Lia.”

The Xioquo stepped forward showed no hesitation or nerves as she spoke. She spoke basic with a quite heavy accent, but was determined to get it right.
“Once the two fortresses guarding the entrance are taken, the entrance inside is also guarded. The Underealm is vast, a series of caverns stretching for over fifty kilometres. What’s more, it also extends on many levels below the surface too. Your greatest danger is not the Xioquo defences, but the sheer size of the tunnels and passages. I have provided a map for what I know, but there is a lot of areas which have never been explored, let alone mapped.”
“You must also anticipate that the Xioquo will attempt to bring down the roof at certain points. I have no doubt some will do this and be crushed or walled in than submit.”

It was a grim diagnosis. In theory they could have seized the entrances and simply starved the Xioquo out, but the suffering involved would be terrible.
As it was, there would still be a lot of deaths.

[member="Tegaea Alcori"]

Grim was one way of putting it. Frankly, it was tempting to just put Underealm under siege and starve the Xioquo to death. But even someone as dark as Siobhan found that idea ethically unpalatable. "If someone who's not me brings down the roof I'm sueing the Xioquo for plagiarism," Siobhan stated, though the joke sounded fell flat and sounded lame even to her. The scenario was Gehenna all over again.

They were just lucky that the Xioquo were far less technologically advanced than the Bando Gora. But on the flip side fighting the Chaos worshippers had been a fairly straightforward campaign of extermination. They did not need to think about Bando Gora civilians because there were none, just cultists, monsters and slaves.

"Eldorai terramancers can help stabilise things a bit if Xioquo blow up their own tunnels. We'll use gas to break up clusters of enemy forces. Tear gas or knock out if there's civilians, nerve gas otherwise. We've provided rebreathers to the Qadiri. Our Mag'ladroth walkers are small enough to get through the tunnels and into the main cities, so infantry will have heavy fire support. We'll need it if there's any truth to the rumours about the drow 'goddess' waking up."

She sighed and ran a hand through her firemane. "I suppose that's it. You know what to do. Get ready and go to your posts. Dismissed." Ideally she'd get a moment or two with her wife and daughters before she got to charge into battle.

Tempest

Storm of the Force

As the meeting concluded elsewhere, Tempest’s gunship was moving into position. In addition to the artillery, the gunships could contribute a heavy blast of missiles and laser cannons.
She reached for her commlink as she waited for the fun to begin.
“Kaida, it’s Tempest. Your girls all ready to go?” she asked jovially. “Ten Dati says we’ll have our fort captured before you have yours,” she added.
Friendly rivalry was always fun.

Potentially [member="Abaigeal E'ron"] was with Tempest on the gunship?

apocredux02.jpg

The Angelii Gunship shot through the sky, moving into position. Beneath it was the deceptively serene looking blue river. The fort was still far away, but the time for battle would be soon. Due to keen elf ears, which had a practical purpose beyond being the object of certain sexual fetishes, Kaida obviously heard what Elincia was whispering. The only response the sassy elf got was a cold look and a grunt.

Kaida was not particularly talkative at the best of times. However, given the stress everyone would be under and the fact that Elincia was very young, she was more tolerant of the girl's cheekiness than she would normally be. Askari, however, had something to say. "Ashira is with you, girl. Any time you draw upon your Sciia, you're using her gift. She'll be with you. Stick with the team, don't play heroine," she spoke encouragingly. She was more into pep talks than her boss.

Kaida suppressed her desire to say something sacrilegious and heretical. In this moment her comm beeped and she picked it up, finding that she'd received a call from Tempest. The Dahomian was one of the few people she actually liked. "This isn't a game," Kaida said with exaggerated dour seriousness. "But I'm certain the Angelii banner will be hoisted over the fort in no time." In other words, challenge accepted after an obligatory lecture prim and proper lecture.

To her entertainment, as she expected the ice lady heard this little gossip and she was soon met with a cold glare. Trying to conceal the little smile forming on her lips and returned the glare. Yet, before she could say anything else she saw the Host Leader approaching, and her attention went to her. Well, one thing she knew about her was, she was a religious person. And Elincia, wasn't that much and she just believed whenever she wanted and the other times she took a more sarcastic approach towards it. The last statement she made about Ashira, she must've heard it since she didn't look so content. Being a sarcastic person about everything, she knew one thing. You can't win an argument against a religious person, they always had their advantages since faith was indeed something interesting. So, she listened and nodded, she wouldn't care to have an argument about how beautiful and strong the Goddess was. "I know Ashira is with me, Host Leader. Don't worry about it." She said briefly, then added a bit Elincia flavour with the tone, obvious she didn't mean what she said. She left it just like that to see what it was going to be like. Yet religious people would be content to hear what they wanted to hear so that would be satisfiable. That doesn't mean she's going to help me though... She didn't say that of course.

They were slowly arriving to their destination as the ship continued to move. She wondered what it was going to be like. The environment of a fight was totally going to change for the elf, since all of her fights were either in training grounds or small-scaled with the scouts of Xioquo before. Now, it was going to be a battle. She didn't even know she was going to survive this, being not so experienced with things, she just hoped for the best, and relied on her not so useful powers and medium experience with the weapons. Well, things didn't look that good, did they now? Anyway, she tried not to think about it that much, since she was about to find out. Then, she focused on her powers and tried to create a sharp ice piece, to see if they were still working. Yep, not so long later, the Sciia started to form an ice particle in her hands, which then turned to be the image that she was imagining. She sighed. "You still work." She said to herself with relief.

Standing upon a snowy hill, Tarissa watched the advance of thousands upon thousands of Qadiri soldiers marching in perfect unison like a phalanx. She wiped away snowflakes from her eyes and the cold air chaped her face, but despite the chill she remained stoic. Her stance radiated command and aristocratic haughtiness. Behind her stood a battery of Thunderer and Typhoon self-propelled guns, ready to unleash an epic bombardment upon the enemy. Before her, formations of Qadiri warriors were moving into position. The sounds of thousands of feet moving in ordered precision could be heard. Snow crunched beneath their every step, and the wind howled.

It was a somewhat perplexing marriage of the archaic with the somewhat modern, for hundreds of Qadiri warriors belonged to the so-called new model troops. These had better armour, superior training and the most modern equipment Firemane had given its native allies: Rifles that could fire six shots without reloading, stick grenades, bayonets and cheap steel helmets. However, most of them would have to stick with musquets, spears and swords. While pikemen shielded riflemen and archers, the calvary stood on the flanks, meant to charge and break the enemy should an opportunity present itself. Primitive mortars stood ready in the rear to support the advance.

It had been a long and sometimes perilious. Here and there the Qadiri had been ambushed by Xioquo during the long march, but finally the target was in sight. Ahead of them lay the great gates. They looked imposing, but shaped charges should blow them to smithereens. Spearheading the charge would be the Anusiya and the warriors of Lakish, who thirsted for revenge after their brethren had been slaughtered just a few miles away.

They better perform well. Tarissa put away her macrobinoculars when an aide approached. The ADC saluted her liege the Eldorai way, hand over her heart. "Your Grace, we've received word from the Phoenix that the Firemane and Angelii forces are converging upon the forts. The attack is imminent."

"Then all is in place. We've procrastinated long enough. Prepare the artillery for saturation bombardment to cover them. Ardashir may begin his attack after the first salvoe. I want our attacks to coincide. He better realise he's not supposed to blindly death charge Xioquo armour. I want them drawn out and mauled in the open. Get the commandos ready to blow up the gates."

Her tone showed her low opinion of their native 'allies'. Truth be told, she looked down on almost everyone! Having spoken these words, she looked over the snowy plain once more. Many of the Qadiri would perish before the battle over, but better them than Eldorai!

"Yes, Your Grace. I will have the translator pass on these recommendations...orders," the aide quickly amended when Tarissa shot her a withering glance. Like many staff officers, she was more diplomatic than her boss and would be stuck with phrasing things more politely.

"Good." Tarissa ran her fingers over the scabbard that contained her sarix. Maybe it would actually be unsheathed and spill blood today. "The Goddess is with us. Today, we deliver a benighted people from savagery and claim our rightful place on this world."

Abaigeal was indeed on the gunship with Tempest. Although she had not been apart of the planning for this final assault she had come to fight against the Xioquo and rout them once and for all. Abaigeal stands largely here for her mother and the Coalition as Jedi.

She moved to the bridge to find Tempest, the gunship moving fast into position and soon they would be on ground in the thick of it. Taking the forts would not be easy, regardless of the heavy fire power Firemane has provided, the Xioquo will not yield without a fight.

Abaigeal rested her hand on her saber hilt, taking it to check if was in good working order, which it always is .. it is just habit. "Tempest, I need a gun", she asked entering the bridge. Always a good idea to have a secondary weapon just in case.
[member="Tempest"]
Better post next time, just entering the scene :p

And so here they were. Galina sat quietly checking her weapons. There was little she had to say at this point. Staying within her own mind seemed a wise idea for the time being. She didn't want to think too much about what was going to happen. Still she kept a keen ear out for orders and the like but otherwise kept to herself.

Elayne sat along side Galina going through the motions in much the same way. She was checking through her weapons, and gear making sure all was in order. She gave a shrug to Kaida's words, her own mood rather grim. Another day, another battle. Battles always seemed short in comparison to the preparations and the waiting. She only glanced up to glare at Elincia. It was unwise to make comments like that around Kaida, especially now. It was asking for it.

Tegaea
The pieces were set, now it was just a matter of setting things in motion.

The following map was distributed to all commands. It was pieced together from a variety of sources and was by nature generalised. Each hex represented 500 metres and was 2D, but at least they had some idea of what lay inside.

Tegaea went to the observation deck of the battleship with the officers and her wife beside her.

“All forces in position, ma’am,” an aide reported.
“Very well. Let us begin. Give the order to open the bombardment.”

From the ships off shore, from the artillery on land, from the bombers and gunships on high, even from the primitive cannons of the Qadiri…all hell broke loose.

The ancient bastions of the Xioquo guarding the harbour had never been taken by an external force. The high stone walls were near impossible to scale, and absorbed cannonballs like cherry stones.
They were no match for what followed.

The first the Xioquo defenders knew of the onslaught was the hail of shells, turbolaser blasts and missiles slamming into the stone. Now the high walls became deathtraps for those inside, as the walls toppled inward to crush those within.

Tegaea showed no emotion as the spires of the western fort fell in smoky ruin. She looked first from Siobhan, then to the aide.

“Give the order, Lieutenant, the fortresses are to be taken, the Qadiri are to advance. May Ashira’s light guide us…and the Force be with us.” It always hoped to invoke whatever energy field or deity might happen to be listening.

Tempest
Tempest grinned at Kaida’s reply. Game on.
Hearing Aba’s words she went to a gun rack and came back with a bolt pistol. The weapon was heavy and had a recoil like a bantha’s kick, but anything hit by it did not get up again.

“We’ve got the go ahead, ma’am.”
“Right, ladies, that’s our signal. Gas masks on, thermal imaging on. Shoot anything Xioquo, there are no civilians here, so free-fire zone is active. Take no prisoners in this zone of combat, these are all hardcore Xioquo elite troops, don’t kill the wounded, but don’t believe anything the able ones say.”
Going to the cockpit of the gunship she gave the signal.

The gunship shifted from High Explosive shells to gas. It was perhaps not sporting or fair to use gas, but against enemies in piles of rubble it was the best way to smoke them out.
The gas used at least was a fairly quick and painless mix of sedative and nerve gas. Anyone breathing it in would be unconscious in 3 minutes, dead in 10.

“Troopers, on my mark…deploy wings!” The wings were a combination of jetpack and glider, allowing the user to land separately from the gunship.
Tempest would be using one of these with her Beskar’gam. It was up to Aba if she wanted to use one, or land normally via the gunship.

Sahal
They had resented her return at first. They probably still did, but Sahal Jai Azal carried herself differently now. She was no longer a cowed slave, she was favoured by the Karizhar and so she had been the natural choice to work as liaison between Tarissa and General Ardashir, the Qadiri general.

When the aide passed on the carefully worded message, Sahal relayed it. She knew Tarissa just enough from her time with Mistress Kerrigan that the polite words were likely a fudging of the real ones.

General Ardashir, a Qadiri male of considerable experience and talent, listened to her translation, grunted.
“You can assure the Lady Cadalthor that I am neither blind nor a fool. She may have technology that lets her see and hear far away, but I can see far enough to know what to do. Deploy skirmishers! Advance flank guards and move forward the artillery to the hills. Move forward one line of infantry, keep the other two in reserve. Go and tell your new Mistress matters are well in hand,” he told Sahal, dismissing her with a wave.

So off Sahal went to relay the orders. It was a thankless task to be bitten by both sides of the counter.

TLDR: Team Angelii is attacking drow fort. Hitting them with nerve gas/fog/steam. Lotta drows die, but they've got Forcers. Giving orders to Elincia/Galina/Elayne: Attack with ice and rock. We have super jet packs!

Attacking the western fort with Team Angelii

The die had been cast. Nemesis had come to the Xioquo. There was a thunderous roar when the first salvoes of heavy artillery impacted upon the Xioquo fort. The drows' ancient bastions had withstood much over the centuries. Time and again their foes had sought to surmount and conquer them, but all to no avail. However, technology had marched on. For a long time the Xioquo had prided themselves on their techological superiority over the rest of Tygara. If it were not for their fractious, self-destructive politics and infighting, they might have conquered the whole planet. But now things had changed.

A hailstorm of shells and missiles rained down upon the ancient bastion. Crimson beams of turbolaser fire lanced through the sky to shear through the walls like a hot knife through creamy butter and disintegrate trapped Xioquo warriors. If it had not been real lives being extinguished, one could have considered the brilliant flashes a beautiful light show. The bastion shuddered and quaked amidst.

While Tempest, Aba and Firemane attacked the eastern fort, the Angelii were paying a visit to the one in the west. Standing aboard the gunship Kaida watched the carnage with a stoic expression on her face. No emotion crossed her features. She stood still as a statue, even as the gunship shook and shuddered slightly. "Lady Seraph, you've got the go-ahead. May Ashira be with you," the pilot's voice spoke through the comm.

"Gas them, then perform a strafing run," Kaida spoke curtly. "Askari, with me. Once the gas has dropped, I'm hitting them with fog. You flash it heat it to steam. All, switch to thermal imagery. Saedaris, pound the enemy with rocks, Alanis, you're on ice projectile duty. Kerrigan, whip up snow to blind hostiles, take down barriers." Galina and Elayne could work together flushing out the enemy, Elincia could put her ice spikes to good use by tossing them at hostiles forced into the open. Plenty of snow was lying around on the ground.

"Girls, prepare to deploy wings on my mark. We're dropping right on top of the enemy. " Much like the Firemane commandos, the Angelii had been outfitted with jet wings, which could be considered a cross between jet packs and gliders. They would allow a swift entry into the ruined fortress.

Presumably Galina and Elincia would've received some off-screen training in their use, though this one will leave it to their writers to decide whether they'd use wings or land normally via gunship. In the meantime, the gunship brazenly swept through the sky over the fortress. A hail of anti-air fire from pockets of resistance came it way, along with blasts of telekinetic energy and streams of flame. The craft was peppered by shots and scorched, but the assault was rather disorganised, it was heavily armoured and high up in the air. Moreover, it had heavy firepower.

As the gunship came in hot, a whirr would be heard, guns charging up. Then pods on the side of the craft would pop up, opening up its hull. Then a minigun-like weapon appeared, with an armoured Angelii right behind it with her fingers on the trigger. Then the whirr turned into a sound like thunder and the pornographically high rate of fire of the rotary shattercannon was unleashed into the direction of the Xioquo.

tumblr_na0pthbFaZ1rarngto1_400.gif

The recoil of the automatic rail gun shook the entire craft, though it was kept relatively stable by the stabilisators and repulsorlifts built into the weapon. It also gave any Angelii who wanted to fire on the enemy with a bolter or toss other projectiles a position to fire from. Against this onslaught, the Xioquo elementalists tried to shield themselves by summoning walls of ice and rock, gathering the snow lying around and using it to raise barriers, or warp and twist the stones.

While the storm of pellets capable of penetrating medium vehicle armour was thrown at the Xioquo, the bombing bay opened, and a bomb filled with nerve gas tumbled out. With Xioquo forced to seek cover, lest they be ripped apart by the auto-fire, they had no chance to deflect, and so a cloud of lethal gas was dispensed right into the fray. Some would consider gas neither sporting nor humane, but far as Kaida was concerned that was a load of crap. Conveniently, Angelii helmets filtered out toxins and gasses, so they'd be protected. The gas onslaught caused terrible havoc as Xioquo warriors convulsed, dropped to the ground, fell unconscious, suffocated.

However, some had remained canny enough to realise what was up. For the most part, these were the drows' sorceresses. Clad in alchemised dark armour, wielding Force-imbued maces, swords and halberds, they drew upon the Dark Side to feed upon the ambient deaths all around them like vampires and shield themselves from the gas. A wind rose up in the sky to disperse the gas while many of the grunts perished, which mitigated its effect a bit. However, it had distracted the enemy and given the Angelii some time.

As the wind tore through the sky and shook the gunship, with the witches trying to push it away with their might, Kaida drew upon her Sciia. A storm of telekinetic force crashed into the gunship, knocking it through the air, but she anchored herself upon the ground against the massive pressure and simply forced the gunship back into position through sheer willpower. Then she brought forth a thick fog that dramatically reduced visibility for the enemy and she drove it straight towards them. Alongside her stood Askari, and as the darkness descended she harnessed her Sciia to dramatically flash heat it. "Time to get steamy," she quipped cornily. While guns thundered with a murderous roar, the fog turned to an intense, boiling steam. Loud screams were heard when this produced boiling Xioquo.

Before she knew it, Abaigeal had a bolt pistol in her hand thanks to Tempest. It looked like an ungainly thing and felt heavy in her hand, but it would do. The signal had been given and it was time for them to get to ground. The rules of engagement had been set, no prisoners which would only be equal to that of the Xioquo she had little doubt, this was war and they are to face the best of the enemy had to offer. On Tempest's instructions Abaigeal pulled down the gas mask over her face and prepared to leave the gunship. She always found it strange that deployment of troops on a gunship would do so in such dramatic fashion, after all the gun ship had .. guns! and flying seemed to be a vulnerable position. But where would be the fun in that!?

Pulling on the combo jetpack glider and strapping it to her body, Abaigeal moved to the exist of the ship and waited for the signal to go. It did not take long to get it, and the doors opened and the troop filed out into open air four by four. And so the deployment began, only problem was Abaigeal did not know how these jetpack glider things worked, she realised this only moments after she had jumped.

"Okay there has to be a button here somewhere", she spoke out loud to the wind which ripped her words from her mouth as she fell to the ground which was rushing up fast. While the troopers had engaged their jetpack and gliding things with professionalism and headed toward the target area, Abaigeal was to focused on her problems, there were buttons! a lot of them and so she started to push them. A blinking blue one grabbed her attention which when pressed engaged the gliding which slowed her descent down somewhat. But she needed to engage the jetpack, and so she pressed the button next to the blue one .. it was the cut away. The gliding wings broke off and flapped about behind her floating off into the air.

She could clearly see the trees, not a good sign. On the other side of the jetpack she punched a green button and engines engaged and the trees sudden grew larger in her eyes. "How do I steer this thing?!", she yelled and no one would hear her. She noticed two levers by her chest and grabbed them and pulled back, the jetpack turned her body just in time for her to skim the tops of the trees.

TLDR: Tar is a queen, orders toy soldiers around. Sio dreams about deification, then kraken attacks her ship!

Tarissa

It sort of sucked to be Sahal at the moment, since she was stuck playing messenger girl between two rather willful, proud commanders who deeply disliked one another. In all fairness, Siobhan had felt a bit bad about putting her in such a position!

Regardless, Tarissa received Ardashir's response and reacted as expected. "Oh, so the manling has some sense, does he? Nice to hear he knows what he's doing at least a little bit. I want to be kept abreast of every move. For now, assume your position," she preened herself, looking and sounding just a bit like a certain Aurelia Saelari. Tarissa's long-suffering aide gave Sahal a look that pretty much said 'Yes, I know she's a queen. Sucks to be you.'

Naturally Tarissa paid little attention to her minion's feelings. "Bring the gunships in the air to cover the Qadiri advance. If the savages oblige us by death charging, I want a strafing run. Redirect our artillery to provide close fire support against clusters of Xioquo tanks." The aristocrat happened to be a fan of heavy artillery. In her opinion it would've been convenient if they could just collapse the mountain via targeted orbital bombardment and starve the survivors into submission.

Siobhan

Siobhan was stoic when she stood on the observation deck of the battleship alongside her wife and what amounted to their general staff. She showed no emotion when bright flashes of turbolaser fire laced the air with dazzling lances of colour and impacted upon the distant fortresses in blossoms of crimson fire. Brilliant domes of light emerged from their targets as the bastions were shaken by epic explosions. The ancient spires fell into smoky ruin. Columns of smoke billowed up into the sky.

The distant Gunships were so far away that they looked like small specs in the sky, but she figured that they would be disgourging troops soon. "Hope Galina and Aba are alright," she said quietly, taking her wife's hands. "May the Force serve us well."

Playing the waiting game felt unnatural to her. But it was not her time yet, though she would've preferred leading the charge right now. Her free hand still clung to her cane. At least it was a nice looking cane with some elaborate runes on it. She spared the map of the Underrealm a glance, focusing in particular on the location that had been labelled Mystra's tomb. "I wonder, if I kill Mystra, will that make me a Paragon?" she joked lamely.

"Well, uh, ma'am, I think only Eldorai can be...," a staff officer said a bit nervously, clearing her throat.

Siobhan brushed her words aside as if they were buzzing insects. "It wasn't a serious question, Lieutenant. Are the ground forces advancing?"

"Lady Cadalthor reports that Ardarshir is in a position. Assault will begin...," however once again the lieutenant got interrupted. This time not by her boss, but by the terrors from the deep. Siobhan felt a sensation within the Force just a moment before the attack came, though there was little warning. Suddenly the still water was boiling and heaving as if it had been thrown into a tremendous turmoil.

Then, from beneath the depths of the sea massive tentacles came. The Phoenix shuddered powerfully when they gripped its hull with vice-like strength and shook it with all their might. Massive waves of water crashed against the battleship. Reacting quickly Siobhan grabbed Tegaea just before the ship lurched so hard that virtually everyone on the deck was tossed around and slammed into the floor or walls. Acting on pure instinct, she summoned a protection bubble around herself and her wife to shield them both as they tumbled down. Siobhan took the brunt of the impact as she slammed into the floor.

And so it was time. Orders had been given and the first wave of the assault had started. Tempest in the East, and Kaida's team in the West. Gas had been dropped and already was having lethal effects on the Drow below.

Kaida had passed out their individual orders and Elayne rose to her feet as the craft shuddered. She stepped to a view port to get a better look down below. At least for now they had some safety within the gunship, for the moment. With the sorceresses below, doing there best to bring the ship down, the redhead only grabbed a hold of a railing above to balance herself. If push came to shove, they at least had the jet packs.

Her eyes skimmed over the scene below, looking for a suitable target. Soon enough she found a weakness is the stone wall of the fort, and pulled hard upon it, releasing a small avalanche of boulders, tumbling down across the fort's courtyard, crushing a fair few soldiers along the way. In the process it also gave the redhead so much more material to work with.

Galina too had moved to observe on their approach to the fort. The chaos plain to see as the assault and bombardment began. With her order in mind, she reached out to the Force, pulling on the invisible tendrils of power within it and drew as much as she could into herself. With a small motion of her hand and fingers a wind picked up, lifting a large amount of snow up into the air, reducing visibility to next to nothing at ground level. As the redheaded human kept at it, she increased the speed of the winds and the amount of snow it picked up, to ensure it was nearly impossible to see well and get any judgement on what was coming, how many and the like. Sure it wouldn't last forever, but at least it gave the Angelii and others time to get into position.

Galina felt a nudge and glanced to Elayne beside her now, who was trying to get her attention.

"I think we can work together and start forcing more of the Xioquo into the open. Rocks first, ice second?"

"Got it." She replied quickly. "Ready when you are."

Elayne took to lifting the stones into the air that had once been part of a wall of the fort and with a bit of effort, she hurled them into the nearest seemingly occupied area. She hoped to cause enough damage and destruction to force their soldiers out into the open where they'd be somewhat easier to pick off.

It didn't take long with Elayne pounding at the Fort with her abilities before a small group of Xioquo soldiers raced into the open. Between the snow, the nerve gas, and the attacks from above, they stood little chance of survival.

Galina's palms glistened with small ice crystals as she tapped into her elemental power. Closing her eyes for a moment, she focused herself and quickly pulled moisture from the air and rapidly formed it into a series of small, hard and lethally sharp icicles. Now ready, she opened her eyes and looked below before she helped to accelerate them to most deadly speeds. A handful of Drow got to experience this unpleasantness as the ice shards easily pierced through their armor, leaving behind rather horrific and no doubt grievous wounds.

They were at their destination, as the smell of the war slowly let itself known with their gunships shaking from the attacks the Xioquo was. It was time to move for the Angelii, and thus, Elincia stopped being her "I don't care" self for a moment and listened to the orders of Seraph. This situation required seriousness, and she wasn't stupid. Projectile duty, well, if her powers would continue to work, it would be a piece of cake. And she had better people accompanying her, so even if she failed to do her part the others would clean up after her. Of course, she was going to try her best but in any case, she had backup. And, as a very big plus to this whole situation, she got to use the cool jetpacks! Still wandering in her own imagination land, thinking about how cool she was going to be, she saw the others already departed the area and started their attacks. "Whoops." She said, scratching her head. Then, she moved to the exit to join the others, and help however she can. They were still in the ship, so they had the ship's armor as their safety, also, the Xioquo looked like they didn't have the advantage of technology like them, so they were taking very heavy losses even in the first seconds of the battle. This was going to be too easy, or... nah, nothing would be that easy. They needed to be careful, and act fast, before something else would show up. Galina was doing Elincia's job, and was doing it better. Her ice particles, as they rained from above, pierced through several enemies, leaving a trail of corpses as some of them tried to run. And... Elincia saw an opening that would give them easy access to the castle, that made her think of a plan. A stupid plan, maybe but that would actually work.

"Galina, Talon Saedaris, I have a plan. You two are doing a great job here, but I am afraid I can't help you that much... at least... not from above." She said, then continued. The two would see the difference of her tone, this time she wasn't joking around. "I don't have my powers fully awakened yet, yet I can use my sword efficiently. I can see an opening there," She showed the little hole that the intense gunfire opened, leading what it seemed to be inside. "I would get in and open the castle doors from inside for the Eldorai. I'll need your protection though, since I will be pretty visible flying there. Keep the attention to yourself, and I will be able to land in without someone seeing me. We all going there would get so much attention." She said, and prepared herself for a flight, but not before hearing their inputs. Not that Elincia would listen anyway since she already was thinking about the height she needed to fly in order not to be seen, but as a sign of respect she would at least hear them out. Afraid, yes she was. But of course, if the fight went too hot, then at least the Eldorai would have the castle's doors open for them and they would advance inside, gaining tactical advantage.

Spared the full impact by Siobhan, Tegaea rose, a slight cut on her forehead dripping red to mix with her hair. In that moment though she ordered two officers to help her wife up and treat any injuries she might have.

As the massive tentacles began to rise from the water, Tegaea grabbed the loudhailer.
“All crew, to your stations. Aim at the tentacles. Ready depth charges!”

The Alliance had known that kraken were a possibility, indeed a certainty, and so had prepared. Depth charges, an old but very effective means of dealing with submarine threats, had been prepared.

Soon the heavy bolters and e-webs were spitting fire at the massive appendages. However, the tentacles were strong and nimble, smashing guns and crushing sailors, though with each wound they became more enraged, smashing down on the huge ship’s deck like hammers. One of the battleship’s main guns was struck repeatedly until it dismounted.

However, relief was at hand as three depth charges were fired, along with some torpedoes from smaller ships. Down they went. The water churned and frothed. The tentacles thrashed wildly before slamming down onto water or ship to lay still.
A vast geyser of blood boiled up from under the surface, along with bits of squid, enough for a whole seafood restaurant’s supply of calamari!

Tegaea went next to see how her wife was holding up, and gave orders for patrols to be increased…in case there were more squid.

Tempest

“Aba, you need to…no! Don’t press that button! Aba!” Tempest shouted frantically as she saw the Jedi drop her wings too early. Fortunately the Jedi managed to pull up, and Tempest relaxed a little. Didn’t the girl read the instructions before setting off?

Regardless, she had more pressing things to think about as the fortress came into view. Artillery and turbolasers had reduced it to rubble, and a tight gas shrouded it as the gunships unleashed their chemical weapons.

By the time she landed and begun her attack, the smoky ruins were quiet, ominously so.
“On me,” she whispered into her comm, climbing a pile of rubble through the outer walls.
It was then that the Xioquo sprung their trap. There were not many left – bodies lay everywhere – but those who survived suddenly attacked with suicidal courage.

Tempest took cover, and with her troops laid down a hail of bolter rounds which tore into the attacking Xioquo. In their ranks she saw not only Xioquo though, but Qadir, Vashyada and others, all with glassy eyes and the lurch of the possessed.

From above a Xioquo mage appeared and unleashed blasts of fire into the sheltered Firemane troops.
Forming a shield about her troops to protect them, Tempest fire up her jetpack and charged the witch directly, using her bolt pistol to deliver a lethal shot at close range.

Still, the gas had made its impact, and most of the defenders had fallen even before her troops had arrived.

“All troops, move in and secure.”

Sahal

At last the great gates opened and vast engines emerged, belching smoke and armed with cannons.

The Qadiri had seen these before though, and did not break and run. Instead, Sahal was able to relay information to Tarissa who could bring down artillery bombardments onto them.

General Ardashir meanwhile had his own strategies.
“Skirmish order for the musketeers. Stay out of the engine’s path and scale them.”

If the Xioquo had troops inside the Qadiri could surround and gun them down as they exited, or scale the beasts and drop grenades inside them. Those not wrecked by artillery at least.

TLDR: Landed in ruined fort with Angelii. Ton of drows are dead due bombardment. Surviving Xioquo death charge and use illusionsary warriors to confuse us. Kaida has a boss fight with terramancer cause rule of cool.

Assaulting western fort with Team Angelii,

The fortress had been reduced to rubble by turbolaser bombardment and artillery. Most of the towers and walls had crumbled, giving the scenery a rather apocalyptic look. So the Angelii could now land directly within the ruins, since they'd made themselves a door. However, they'd only cleansed the outer walls. Getting from there through the tunnels into the Underealm would be another story.

"Go, go!" Kaida yelled to make herself heard over the howl of the wind and the roar of artillery. Naturally she was the first one to leap out of the Gunship and spread her jet wings. Angelii had some rather old-fashioned views such as officers leading from the front. This probably was one of the reasons for their high officer casualties. Regardless, a swarm of Angelii skytroopers jumped out alongside, descending upon the fortress like a horde of angry locusts.

The fortress was eeriely quiet as they made their descent, save for cries of pain as Xioquo died from being roasted by steam, choked on gas or plain and simply made their last gasps of air while being crushed under rubble.

Finally she once again had solid ground under her feet. "Move out, girls. Watch for ambushes." The Xioquo made their attack when the Angelii surmounted the ruined outer walls. Many had died in the flaming inferno or suffocated when gas was dropped, but the survivors attacked with suicidal courage. Amidst impassioned war cries, Xioquo charged them with bayonets or fired archaic slugthrowers. Alongside them were Qadir, Vashyada and even captured Eldorai. All of these had glassy eyes and looked drug-addled - or possessed!

"Fire." Fortunately Angelii did not hesitate. Death-charging attackers, regardless of race, were greeted with a hail of bolter rounds, ice and elemental fire. Blaster bolts and flame roasted organic tissue, rocks crushed and explosive bolts blew off limbs.

However, then things began to shift as it seemed the attackers were beginning to multiply. Not only did it look like two more Xioquo warriors threw themselves into the charge for every one that was slain, but several manifested in the rear of the Angelii! Kaida's danger senses flared when a Xioquo wearing black armour charged her with an axe and unleashed a jet of flame. Instinctively she shielded herself. Her mind told her that ice she'd wrapped around her body was melted and heat spread through her body. Her lightsabre ignited in a blaze of yellow and she cleaved the attacker from shoulder to belly.

The drow tumbled to the ground with a thud, looking so very life-like. But for just a brief moment the corpse flickered slightly. One of the advantages of dating an illusionist was that you were not altogether blind. "They're illusions. Ignore the rear! Use AOE powers on the front. They're getting desperate," she yelled. Illusions were only as real as you allowed them to be. They lost their power once you stopped letting them influence you.

Harnessing her Sciia, Kaida unleashed a cone of ice that swept across the battlefield like a broom to freeze several enemies solid. Covered by her battle sister, Askari lunged forward and a ray of heat shot from her suddenly crimson eyes, causing a blazing inferno as drows were turned into charred husks.

However, the brief moment of confusion the phantoms had thrown the Angelii into had allowed the surviving Xioquo mages to advance. Intermingling amongst the spectral attackers, they were clad in dark, alchemised armour that had shielded them a bit from the gas and elemental onslaught. Now, with some of them showing burns or missing a few fingers or ear from the steam, they fell upon the Angelii, having feed upon the dead like vampires.

Alchemical halberds, Force imbued swords, and dark auras of Force Drain - they all brought it to bear on the Angelii, though the Xioquo were strongly outnumbered. Most sorceresses fell amidst bolter fire, but some managed to engage the Angelii in melee. Eldorai fire support came in form of the gunship hovering in the sky with guns blazing. Kaida's lightsabre swept forth to intercept a blast of lightning leaping for Askari while the pyromancer incinerated foes with flames or hewed them down with her sarix.

The lightning coiled across her blade like a snake and some of it got past her defences, attracted by the moisture on her armour. She shook as she felt a strong electrical shock, though she managed to hold her ground by anchoring herself with her Sciia. In almost the same moment she was suddenly assaulted by a salvoe of rocks, some as large as boulders. Her lightsabre moved in a flurry, cleaving apart rocks or deflecting them, but a small rock moving with the speed of a hypervelocity missile got past her defences and cut into her shoulder.

Pain shot through her, but fortunately Askari was there to use her pyromancy to disintegrate a large rock coming Kaida's way before it could hit her. A quick look passed between them and the pyromancer went to fight the lightning-hurling Xioquo, while Kaida confronted the charging terramancer. Her opponent's spiked, rune-covered armour showed her as one of the elites among the Xioquo's mages.

Lightsabre clashed with Force-imbued, rune-covered sword. The drow was a good deal stronger than Kaida and came at her like an ox or battering ram, though she was more agile. This forced her to dodge, but her opponent kept coming at her, alternating hard thrusts and sharp cuts. She parried a thrust towards her chest upwards, past her shoulder and the rune blade singed across her armour.

But her follow-up was simply batted aside with ease and the drow came at her with grim ferocity. Sensing the terramancer draw upon her kindred element, Kaida drew her Sciia into her muscles and somersaulted through the air before an elemental wave from the rear could deliver her into the Xioquo's waiting blade.

She reeled as rocks bombarded her upon landing and rolled fast to evade, then drew on her Sciia to halt the Xioquo's charge by whipping up snow to toss into her eyes and fill her limbs with water. The drow struggled as she found herself almost unable to move her limbs, feeling paralysed. But as Kaida sought to will liquid to flood her lungs, pain surged through her when a powerful magnetic field gripped her armour like a vice, lifted her into the air and then slammed her into the ground with excessive force, enough to tear a fissure through the ground. Once, twice. The magnetic field focused upon Kaida's helmet and throat.

After all, terramancers could manipulate metal as well as earth. The grinding and twisting of metal could be heard as the drow sought to not only crush the helmet around her face, but asphyixiate her. Kaida struggled for air as oxygen failed to reach her and the helmet tightened around her face, cutting into it. Acting on instinct, the Seraph summoned a tremendous blast of arcanic cold air and let it sweep towards the drow. Intense cold gripped her foe as she was tossed through the air and ice crystals spread across her body, embracing her limbs.

Frostbite ensued as skin became hard and waxy, purplish blisters spread and the drow began to feel very numb. Desperately trying to slow down the process she hardened her skin, turning it into something akin to stone as her face paled and turned grey. The ambient liquid weathered the stone as it rubbed against it, causing small pieces of rock to weaken as cracks appeared.

The drow's last hurrah was a blast of telekinetic energy as she let go of her stone skin, shattering the ice. Ice and rock bombarded Kaida as the concussive blast slammed into her, meeting a hastily summoned protective bubble in an epic crash. It was still enough to knock the wind out of her and break a rib. Feeling the strong pressure against her chest, the Seraph had enough. Intense pressure once again came down upon her armour, and so Kaida poured all her power into freezing the drow's arteries, ending her. Intense, supernatural cold, frozen blood vessels and lack of blood reaching the brain produced a most unpleasant death. Kaida breathed in deeply while a healer rushed towards her. "Onward. Terminate and secure."
