Strengths:
  • Automated Systems: As with many products manufactured by Republic Engineering Corporation, the Corinthia Skyhook was fully automated station; where almost every operation was overseen by an artificial construct, whose limited consciousness was expanded throughout the station by the myriad of integrated droid brains.
  • Toothless Fortress: Although the Sun Guard are known for their offensive capabilities, the Corinthia Skyhook found itself bereft of weapons. However, where there was a lack of weaponry, they were able to stack on layer - after layer - of variable defensive measures; with included a dedicated asteroid defense network.
Weaknesses:
  • Central Computer Core: While there were a host of benefits that came from utilizing a central computer core, such technologies came with a host of drawbacks as well. With a centralized location, the Core became a target for boarding parties, as well as magpulse weaponry that could very well disable the station; should the integrated countermeasures be defeated.
  • Maneuvering Thrusters: As the station houses no primary methods of propulsion, save for its maneuvering thrusters, the Corinthian Skyhook requires an escort vessel to tow the installation into position; lest the crew wishes to enjoy the lengthy sojourn aboard a slowly moving facility.
  • Orbital Danger: Should the Corinthian Skyhook ever be dragged, or knocked out of its orbital position, the punch-dagger like design would prove to be an extreme hazard to any planet’s surface; as the resulting impact and reactor breach would likely scorch, if not scour, the surrounding area. While there was a magnetic tether put in place to retract the station planetside, this method of orbital protection wasn’t ideal - as it could be sabotaged prior to an attack.
Description: With the legacy of the Sun Guard once again spreading throughout the stars, the Golden Company found itself in need of stationary locations; where they’d be able to establish a permanent presence with whatever worlds, and stellar nations sought to purchase their services. To that end, the Thyrsians sought out their contacts within the Republic Engineering Corporation to create, and subsequently produce an advanced skyhook that would suit their needs. Thus, the Corinthian was conceptually devised. In a drastic departure from the spartan designs that were produced before, this station was built with opulence and comfort in mind. What better way to drag recruits in than by showing them all of the wealth and glory they could earn in service to the Mercenary cause? Therefore, these stations would be outfitted with the best technology that credits could buy; including a modular training facility that could be used to weed out the weakest of applicants.

However, there was an issue with the design that couldn’t be avoided. Skyhook(s) presented a dangerous celestial object in high orbit of a planetary system when their gravitational networks gave out; either through sabotage or malfunction. The station would then get caught in the inescapable clutches of the localized gravity well, and tumble towards the surface; causing untold destruction and mayhem upon impact. So, as a precautionary measure to ensure every safety measure was met, the Corinthian was outfitted with a surface-based gravitic tether. This installation would keep the station in orbit, and would retract the station planetside should trouble become apparent. Yet, this also posed a significant weakness for the defending forces, as an enemy vanguard could sabotage the installation and bring the station down onto the planet below.

Despite all of the dangers and the myriad of precautions, the Corinthian - Class would find itself amongst the stars, bringing more contracts and Sun Guard recruits into the fold.
