DESCRIPTION
Thyrsus was free. Such words were unthinkable to give voice whilst the Echani still brutally occupied and enslaved the planet, but with the coming of the Thyrsian Crusade? That very phrase was shouted to the high heavens until the people’s collective voice turned hoarse. Yet, with one enemy defeated, the Thyrsian people realized that there would always be another seeking to fill the void. It was the way of things, and there wasn’t a future - nor possibility of that fact changing any time soon. Thus, the fledgling Hierarchy commissioned their comrades within the ranks of the Republic Engineering Corporation to devise a more tangible means of defence for their space. Sure, Thyrsus found itself strategically located between two asteroid fields, which made hyperspace transit extremely difficult for non-natives - when diverging from the regulated jump zones - but the sector needed more.

So, the conceptual origins of the TTH/ODS-01 "Citadel" - Class Battlestation were birthed into being and eventually evolved into the technological terror that it inevitably became. However, as with all things - it had to start somewhere. Therefore, the Enclave and Design team decided that it was wise to begin with an asteroid as the foundation for their new battlestation. The reasoning behind this was because of the abundance of spatial debris that encircled the Thyrsian System. With the strong foundations offered by the asteroid, it wasn’t an issue to core out the ferrous interior and replace it with far more advanced internal systems, and honey-combed structures. Not only would the exterior “asteroid plating” offer an additional means of protection for the lowermost levels, but the ferrous crust would make it difficult for hostile boarding craft to disgorge their passengers below the Battlestation’ gothic superstructure.

It’s likely they’d need high-powered lasers or dedicated mining drills to punch through the outermost layer. While entirely possible, it wasn’t ideal, as in the time it’d take to carve through the thick asteroid plating - the station’s guns could easily target the boarding craft and destroy it before their task was complete.

In addition to the external asteroid plating, the “Citadel” - Class would be equipped with layered and ablative armour - which made the Battlestation capable of withstanding a great deal of punishment. Coupled with the integrated anti-concussion field generators and advanced pressor beam emitters, these pseudo-celestial bodies would find themselves to be nigh-impervious to hostile ram ships, and kinetic weaponry alike. They were capable of becoming fixed lines of defence and offered a commanding presence across a myriad of spatial planes; making them ideal defensive bastions wherever they’d be situated. In many ways, one could suppose, the “Citadel” was akin to a stationary battleship - capable of battling the enemy and either claiming victory or holding them off until reinforcements arrived.

Adding onto the hardened armour plating, the “Citadel” - Class Battlestation was outfitted with a host of defensive barriers that’d protect them from all manners of hostility. The first, and most notable of these projected deflector screens was the advanced Xythan barrier - which not only offered an astounding defence against energy weapons but reflected them back at their points of origin. Such a beneficial capability made it dangerous to engage the “Citadel” with any energy-based weaponry, as it would simply add to the firepower when the Battlestation returned fire. In addition to that aforementioned asset, the primary barrier was also immune to field disruptor infiltration - which saw a rise in use across the galaxy. The energy that the module emitted would be absorbed, but long before the enemy unit was able to breach the shields - it’d be sent back in a violent feedback loop. An act that’d see them burnt to a crisp as the energy was shot back at the point of origin or their momentum caused them to impact the particle or concussion barriers. Either way, the inclusion of the Xythan shielding would force the enemy to engage the battlestation and whittle down its shields - before being able to board it through more… conventional means.

To ensure that it’s combat capabilities were unparalleled, the “Citadel” - Class was outfitted with a vast array of weapons that’d make Battlecruisers of a similar size blush. From a vast selection of turbolasers and ion cannons to mass-driven warhead launchers and railguns - the Battlestation was capable of engaging various targets with relative ease. Naturally, the effectiveness of their weapons ranged from one hostile boogey to another, but that was of little concern or consequence to the Thyrsian people. If the enemy managed to somehow bypass these fixed points of defence, their supplementary martial methodology would swiftly fill in the gap - whilst the Battlestation engaged them from behind, with their immense suite of weaponry or their Magnite-enhanced tractor beams.

When it came to internal systems, the “Citadel” considered itself to be one of the most advanced Battlestations in the entire Galaxy. From polished armourplast walls to holographic terminals, the Thyrsian station was the epitome of technological opulence. Not only did it make things difficult for slicers to infiltrate into the facility, but the station made boarding actions into a psychological nightmare. Turadium blast doors were common, which proved to be difficult for even the vaunted Jedi or Sith to carve through. Retractable autoblasters, laser gates, and even retractable bulkheads threw themselves into the mix - making any assault treacherous, as the interior layout shifted to the whims of the defenders.

Adding onto all of these security methods and countermeasures, was the liberal use of droid brains and artificial intelligence technologies - which assisted in automating a majority of the Battlestation. These linked minds operated in a hivemind like capacity, but came with the possibilities of decentralization, making it extremely difficult to wrest control away from the station - without disabling the various and primary nodes throughout the intertwined and honey-combed structure. Even the unconventional methods, often employed by Force-wielders - who sought to dominate the mechanical minds of the Station’s integrated technologies would find themselves hard-pressed to overpower the thousands of digitized voices echoing in their thoughts.

And so, with the “Citadel” installed in critical locations and at Worlds who swore fealty to the Sword and Sun banner, they’d find themselves wholly protected by a battlestation that was truly deserving of its simplistic namesake.
