"Scatterfire" Dual Turbolaser Cannon
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Dual-Barrel Alternating Fire Cycle
- Continuous firing rhythm:
- One barrel fires while the other primes
- Reduces downtime between shots
- Improves thermal management and system longevity
- Continuous firing rhythm:
- Packetized Plasma Scatter Discharge
- Each bolt is divided into multiple plasma sub-masses
- Forms a controlled spread pattern post-discharge
- Increases hit probability against fast or evasive targets
- Variable Magnetic "Choke" System
- Adjustable dispersion geometry:
- Tight spread for corvettes and gunships
- Wide spread for fighters and missile swarms
- Controlled via muzzle field shaping
- Adjustable dispersion geometry:
- Controlled Containment Bloom
- Plasma remains coherent during initial trajectory
- Containment sheath then weakens intentionally
- Produces predictable and consistent spread patterns
- Shield Abrasion Cycling
- Multiple clustered impacts:
- Stress shield harmonics
- Force broader shield coverage
- Designed to degrade shield cohesion over time
- Multiple clustered impacts:
- Flak-Screen Emission Mode
- Timed early dispersion creates:
- Dense plasma "clouds"
- Effective for:
- Missile interception
- Denial of attack corridors
- Timed early dispersion creates:
- Thermal Offset & Cooling Advantage
- Alternating barrels allow:
- Cooling between shots
- Reduced thermal saturation
- Maintains performance during sustained engagements
- Alternating barrels allow:
- High Hit Probability in Close Engagements: Spread pattern compensates for target evasion and tracking limitations, particularly effective against starfighters and fast attack craft.
- Continuous Pressure Output: Alternating firing cycle ensures minimal pressure gaps.
- Superior Anti-Starfighter and Anti-Missile Capability: Wide-area coverage makes it highly effective against fighters and bomber squadrons as well as incoming ordinance.
- Shield Degradation Capabilities: Repeated distributed impacts disrupt shield stability and increase energy drain forcing defensive systems to make continuous adjustments.
- Reduced Precision Requirement: Does not rely on the pinpoint accuracy of targeting computers in close combat engagements.
- Strong Close-Range Multi-Role: Effective against Corvettes, Frigates, Light Cruisers and Fighter Craft.
- Limited Effective Range: Most effective close to mid range.
- Lower Armor Penetration: Due to the spread pattern it is less effective against heavily armored capital ships and reinforced capital hulls.
- Inefficient at Long-Range Engagements: Not effective at long ranges.
- Potential Energy Waste Against Heavy Shields: Best used in combination with heavier weapons against Heavy Cruisers, Star Destroyers, Battlecruisers, etc.
The TSX-44 "Scatterfire" Dual Turbolaser Cannon is a short-to-mid range capital ship weapon system designed for continuous pressure fire and high-probability target saturation. Unlike conventional turbolasers that prioritize bolt coherence and long-range penetration, the TSX-44 employs a packetized plasma discharge that disperses into a controlled spread pattern after leaving the barrel.
The system features a dual-barrel alternating fire cycle, where one barrel discharges while the other undergoes recharge, gas cycling, and magnetic stabilization. This configuration allows the weapon to maintain near-continuous firing output while mitigating thermal buildup and field instability.
Each shot consists of a magnetically segmented plasma cluster, held briefly within a shared containment sheath before dispersing into a cone-shaped pattern. This gives the weapon a functional analogue to a shotgun, trading long-range precision for close-range lethality, coverage, and sustained pressure.
The TSX-44 is most effective in close engagement envelopes, where it excels at anti-starfighter defense, missile interception, and overwhelming light-to-medium warship shielding through repeated distributed impacts.
