Private Trouble in Paradise (Troublesomes)

The Homestead.

When thinking of places for the Troublesomes to lay low and go over their haul, what better place was there than a fire-proof homestead with a forge to check on Fred Gred Fred Gred 's arm and enough defensible positions to mount the best water balloon fight in existence? It was a totes no brainer. The best possible outcome of all outcomes.

Yes. Amma thought, as she twiddled her fingers and thought calm thoughts. She would talk RhaeRhae into... bringing the Troublesomes over for... a party. Planting ideas in his head was far simpler than checking their mother's schedule. Haha! Off on a delivery. In a foreign system, a fair click away... they had the house to themselves.

Busying about the fire retardant main house, Amma tossed bags of snacks on the table and threw herself over a bunch of her mother's schematics for projects the Troublesomes didn't need to see. She searched for Fireteam Echo, tip toeing through the house as she carried her mother's things and without looking, tossed them into Ginnie's room and shut the door.

"Fewf... okay... ookaaaay Amma we're all... okay..." Rolling both shoulders, she put her game face on, Rhaegar Dib II Rhaegar Dib II had to have them all outside by now.... yes.

YES. A party at the Dib's House.

What could possibly go wrong?

“It's not the fall that will kill you … well maybe it is! But that's the fun!”

Kicking the pedal he shifted gears and slammed the throttle controls forward in the right handle while rotating the grips of the left that opened the vanes to gain altitude. A savage grin stretched across his face. The swoop bike leapt across the front of the field angling for the house even as he pulled back on the handles while goosing the throttle. The bike jumped up even as the air cushion from the repulsors hit the roof and he gunned the engine to soar across the peak and into the sky.

The bike fell from the heavens accelerating even more as it descended rapidly toward the back yard. Straddling the bike he arched over the controls and cranked the settings to the repulsor field up extending the cushion that tore into the grass as he slammed down and veered to the right of the forge. Laughing loudly he pivoted to his right spinning on his right leg before zipping around the house and sliding to a stop near the other swoop bikes. Leaping from the bike he clapped loudly.

“Who's next? Ba'vodu Muad got Amma and me these. And they are awesome!"

Kat'ra was ready to meet her new adopted family. She was just thankful not to be alone now that she was in a strange galaxy that was way older than her own. Maybe she could meet people her own age and get back to living a normal life.

She was inside the house getting a snack. Kat'ra was famous for her appetite. Muad probably didn't know what he'd gotten himself into. Kane had always said Kat'ra could eat him out of house and home!

Fred looked astonished at the swoop. It had been a long time since he'd seen a machine like that up close and personal, and he would've jumped at the chance to be next had it not been for one thing. He looked at the mechanical arm he had currently laid on the ground beside him. He just had to manage to screw his arm up! Next to the arm was his trusty V-2 Micromech IA-9 "Eya." The little droid let out some whistles as she watched the swoop, doing a little spin as Rhaegar stopped nearby. Fred chuckled, patting the droid with his good hand.

"Eya's right. That thing's awesome! Never actually flown a swoop bike." He looked over at Rhae, chuckling some. "Definitely looks like fun." He then looked at the others, smiling. "Honestly just nice to relax after everything. Haven't had much of that before now."

Stabitha, as Adara Raxis Adara Raxis so affectionately nicknamed her, was hungry.

So when she ignored Rhaegar Dib II Rhaegar Dib II and Fred Gred Fred Gred doing what teenage boys do to go inside to eat, and saw the sorry bags of snacks Amma Dib Amma Dib had decided to throw on the table? Well, this just wouldn't do! Tabitha poked a bag of chips suspiciously, pierced brow quirking upwards as the hot pink bag made the most annoying crinkle sound Tabitha had ever heard.

"Amma. Vod. Where's your kitchen? Because chips ain't a proper snack. I'm commandeering your kitchen to make us all some proper snacks Mama would be happy with me eating."

Not waiting for an answer, and knowing the other would probably need more food than just bags of chips, Tabitha picks a direction and started heading down a hallway.

“W-wait! I didn’t have time to…” Amma chased Stabby down the hall, careening past her and taking a left into the brick and mortar kitchen. No drapes, no table cloth, not even dish towels lined the Dib family kitchen.

Scorch marks betrayed the reason on walls, the table’s once transparent glass surface a warped charcoal black. Empty liquor bottles scattered across the table and the sink.

“It’s not as bad as… it’s not…. ” Amma rushed through the kitchen tossing empties into a metal bin, the clank echoing through the functional, steel and stone lined place. “Kad, give me five seconds, Stabitha. Mom never cleans up when she’s… dworking. When she’s working... so... it's.. ah... it's Taru's birthday. We should bake him something.”

Amma attempted to sound more nonchalant than she felt, offering up their friend's special day as distraction.

"Do you ever take your arm off so you can get to those hard to reach itchy spots?"

Rhae chuckled as he looked at the mechanical arm. He knew his uncle had one, but his was covered with synth flesh. And it was connected to his shoulder in a more complex way that didn't allow Rhae the opportunity to examine it closer. Motioning to the bike with his right hand, Rhae nodded at Freddie.

"Seriously vod, take it for a spin. If you don't want to fly a bit in it, use it like a speeder bike. Activate the repulsors then just use the throttle. When you get your arm back on maybe we can race, cause we got two!"

He heard what Freddie said about relaxing and nodded somberly. He got that. Clan Gred was always doing something, always on the move. Just like his own Clan. It was hard to find a moment just to hang out and have fun when all the older peeps are trying to throw more work in your shoulders saying, you need to take more responsibility cause you are the future. Bunch of osik. They just don't remember how to have fun.

"You ever think that's all they want for us? To be soldiers and leaders? To fit what they want for us? What about what we want? I don't want to die on some random planet fighting a war that doesn't really matter. I want to do something with my life."
