Special Features:
Manoeuvrability Rating: 17
Speed Rating: 15
Hyperdrive Class: 1
Strengths:

  • Head on destruction: The Trimaran is exceptionally well armed, particularly along the prow blade. It is exceptional as a destroyer at directly engaging enemy capital ships. It will engage with a constant barrage of long range torpedoes at it closes to short distances. It will then unleash volleys of ion cannon and ACE fire before firing its ordnance. When the launchers fall silent, the crew knows that they are close to the enemy. The sound of a full volley of ordnance rumbles around the entire ship. Few vessels can withstand such an assault.
  • Missile defence: The vessel is equipped with a large number of point defences dedicated to shooting down incoming torpedoes.
  • Flexible Ordnance: Prow launchers can fire a flexible range of warheads to suit the situation, harassing from long range as well as delivering a punishing volley at close range.
Weaknesses:
  • Broadsides: Vulnerable to smaller destroyers/heavy cruisers with powerful broadside weaponry that surround the trimaran to engage.
  • Poor manoeuvrability: The profile and engine configuration works for straight line speed.
  • Engine failures: The vessel has a large moment of inertia due to the wings and prow blade. Taking out one of the engines severely compromises its manoeuvrability.
  • Starfighters: Needs cover from escort vessels to protect against fighters than can strike from close range. Approaching at specific angles can leave a bomber wing only having to contend with 15 Quad lasers
Description:

Since its inception the Alliance has never manufactured its own standard Star Defender of the line. Many designs utilised by the Alliance have an aesthetic that reminds people of the Old Republic, or the Rebellion. These vessels give people hope and remind them that there is still a military might in the Galaxy that works to fight against oppression and the Dark Side.

The Trimaran is typically most useful in the early parts of an engagement. Most fleets start off at long distance and close head on. The prow blade features a fearsome array of weaponry, designed to crack enemy destroyers at close range. Even heavy battlecruisers have a great deal to fear from a Trimaran closing head on. As a battle continues and moves into a phase where manoeuvrability is key these ships may struggle to bring their weaponry to bear, especially if the enemy lacks any large targets.

The vessel is intended to sit at the heart of an Alliance fleet, supported by the Valor-class Carriers and Scythe MK3’s that round out the array of larger capital ships used by the GADF. Smaller hammerhead style vessels often fill in the gaps and form pickets as formations of X-Wings prepare to engage the enemy.

[member="Vilin"], this looks pretty reasonable for the most part.

I'd like to see a little bit more development for the armament, simply because the thread shown basically covers the minimum dev requirement for a ship this size ("Ships and stations at or above 1,700 meters will always require a development thread. Minimum: 20 posts, 2 writers.").

Alternatively, the Armament rating could be reduced to 16, and I can stamp this as is.
