Traditionally the braid is worn to the right…

padawan_by_corvusraaf-d8n6dew.jpg

Corvus walked on the grass in one of the many clearings in the gardens of the Jedi Academy on Ossus. She unfolded a picnic blanket and placed it on the ground and then examined the hamper she’d also brought with her. It contained a variety of nibbles – including some ryshcate that the kitchens here had started making since the fall of Corellia. It wasn’t quite the same, but it was good. And then there was a selection of hot and cold drinks – including her favoured iced tea.

And so she sat back, feeling the rays of the sun on her face and enjoying the warmth. Over the past six years she’d been unable to continue to train Padawans – all Jedi had. And recent events had made the Force unstable, so still no learning was possible for Padawans. But some of those that had called her Master were still around and others had come forward to be guided in their development – and so she decided the best option was for something of a fresh start.

And that called for a celebration – for they’d had precious few of those over the past half a dozen years. So she’d invited the Padawans to join her, chat, get to know each other and most importantly agree a way ahead – as a team. For when she was a Padawan, it was her fellow apprentices that made the most difference. Of course she had great teachers and a wonderful Master, but it was Jedi like [member="Kana Truden"] that made her what she was today. And of course, she’d gained a best friend too.

So she almost dozed as the sun beat down and she waited…

Uri arrived shortly after his master. His Agamarian Beast in tow. Saga loved the gardens after all. More so than Uri did. He let her graze as he went over to where his master set up the small picnic He let gravity do the work as he sat down toppling to the ground with a light thud. He made sure not to get his shoes on the blanket as well. He didn't want to get it dirty. Which was a silly thought since she spread it out on the ground.

He greeted his master with a smile then glanced down at what she had brought with her. He was happy to see food and refreshments rather than books. Reading seemed like the only thing he could do in his six years at Ossus. He did like to read, but usually only when he wanted to. He had this bad habit of skimming when he read which usually meant he didn't retain what he was reading like he should or worse he would have to go back and read it again.

Uri was glad that this particular day could be spent relaxing. He leaned back and laid on the ground with his arms behind his head. He took in the rays as they hit his face and the smell of the grass. A small smile curving out of the corners of his lips, "It's days like today that remind me the most of Agamar."

Moira arrived not long after them, the only reason she was later was because she forgot to bring her short tremor sword (derivative of the Sith tremor sword but modified to where there would be no Dark bearing on it) and ryyk blade in case anyone wanted to spar, or she needed to protect someone and that was the only way. Of course, master Raaf would be there, but events tie in funny ways through the Force.

Making her way across the plains, Moira ran into Uri and Corvus. She tipped her torso a bit and hung her head in a respectful bow to them both. "Greetings, master, sibling-student." She said softly, her eyes reflecting someone still recovering from deep wounds that may never heal. She gave a smile and glanced to the refreshments. "Master, did you prepare this?" It was a slightly cheery tone behind the question. She was trying to forget the nightmare she had the prior night.

She had a feeling her master would feel an uneasiness within her, as to be expected from her. She was rather adept in the Force. She would take a seat with them, then lay back. "I needed this. Days like these are good to clear my mind."

Corvus was pleased that Uri and Moira had already arrived and it was still before the appointed time.

"Please, help yourself to something to eat and drink. But not the ryshcate, that's for later." And with that Corvus poured herself an iced tea and added a slice of lemon to the drink before taking a long sip. At least it didn't give the challenge of the blue-milk top-lip conundrum. And so she closed her eyes again and relaxed, listening to the birds in the trees and wondering who would be next to arrive.

Chaos. Pure and utter chaos was the best way to describe the present mental state of Nixia as she rushed about her room. She had received an invitation from Master Corvus one day whilst she was continuing her own training; inviting the young Padawan to a picnic along with several other Padawan's who were also studying under Corvus. However, unlike with her training, Nixia completely forgot about the picnic until the day it was happening. This combined with the fact that Nixia didn't exactly do very well with meeting people in groups for the first time meant she was in full on panic mode. "Ok should I wear my normal training gear or should I bring my robes?! I'll bring my saber in case anyone looks strong... no no no this is a celebration! Wait maybe Jedi celebrate with sparring? Why can't I find a clean pair of shorts?!!"

Several minutes later, the Padawan emerged from her room barefoot in a white tanktop with midnight blue shorts; her lightsaber dangling from her Jedi belt as she ran. Nixia failed to even realize that it was quite a bit before the appointed time that was mentioned in the invitation and that she was rushing for nothing. Tearing her way down the garden paths at full speed, Nixia finally spotted her Master along with two other people set up off in the distance. She stopped herself immediately in order to give her self enough time to prepare for meeting her fellow students. "Alright, just stay CALM. CALM is the key here. There's no reason to be socially awkward like always! They're Padawans just the same as I am. Everything's going to be just fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine." she thought to herself as she walked up slowly towards her Master and the others. She greeted her master with a respectful bow before sitting down at the edge of the blanket; keeping herself on the grass. The panic was rather obviously plastered upon Nixia's face with her eyes darting back and forth between the two new people she hadn't met before. "Ok just need to introduce myself! Nothing hard about that, right? I mean its just saying my own name!" "Um... hi! I'm nice, Nixia to meet you!!" "DAMMIT BRAIN YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!"

Dair quashed a small surge of trepidation as he approached the group seated around the picnic blanket. He had been on Ossus for a while, but had kept to himself mostly. It was only recently that he and Corvus had tentatively agreed to her formally taking him on as a padawan. He took a moment to straighten his tan colored wrap tunic top and make sure that his brown training pants were properly bloused in his boots. He next checked the placement of his training saber, he was still using the one loaned to every padawan before they make their own. Feeling better that everything was in place, he started forward again.

Not knowing how formal to be with this group, he approached to within easy conversation distance and bowed.

"Greetings, I am Padawan Dair Cotarin." he replied, with a soft smile on his face, to the curious looks he was receiving from some of those assembled.

"Moira Kataline." The girl said, still with a look of duress on her face like she witnessed a murder she could do nothing to prevent, or bring justice for. Her right hand danced along the hilt of her Tremor Sword subconsciously. She was unaware of the fact that she looked ready to draw her weapon, nor visibly afraid. Afraid of the meeting, no... But there was her nightmare that became an overbearing. Moira moved from her position, and slowly walked away trying to cool her head. It was her second day there as a padawan, and had no idea why she had the nightmare. Perhaps it was a sign.

Dair felt the waves of anguish rolling off of Moira as the thoughts of her nightmare passed through her mind. Momentarily he was stunned by those feelings, until he took a deep breath and centered his mind. He had not been prepared to shield his mind from strong emotions, so these had taken him fully by surprise.

"Are you alright?" he said as he took a single step after her retreating form. He followed no further though, she didn't seem to be in tangible danger and he knew that sometimes one just needed to be alone with their emotions to be able to deal with them. He turned back toward Master Raaf and the other padawans.

"I hope I did not cause undue stress with my arrival..." he said, he doubted that he was the direct cause, but he was still concerned about the incident.

Uri glanced up at the girl who arrived after him giving her a smile like he gave their master previously. He remembered her from the library and how he left a pretty terrible impression on her. In truth, she didn't leave the best impression on him but he didn't dwell on that. Uri didn't see the point at leaving it at that. They were both Jedi after all. He could tell by her gear that she might be expecting some friendly completion if no one else indulged her he just might.

Uri turned his attention back to his master and held a cup for Master Corvus to pour him some tea. He pulled it away before she got the inkling to put a lemon in it. He crinkled his nose at the thought of lemon in his tea. He lifted his head lightly taking a small sip before laying back down and putting the cup in the bend of his neck and shoulder. His arm held it in place as he put his hand back behind his head and shut his eyes. Despite looking like he was sleeping he was really reconnecting with the force. Slowly. The force didn't feel broken anymore but he was still on edge by it.

Two more padawan arrived. He felt their signatures in the force. Uri kept mostly quiet. He wasn't sleeping well so he was using every moment to relax before everyone showed up. He would have time to bond with them soon enough. He was sure of this.

He grinned at Nixia's honest mix up with her words and heard Dair greet them and then Uri felt a sudden change in the force... The girl he had been scolded by in the library. Moira. He remembered she said her name was. Uri opened his eyes to see she was distressed over... Dair? He wasn't sure if that was really the reason, but she moved away from the group. Uri glanced up at Master Corvus not speaking or using telekinesis but with his eyes he showed concern as if he was silently asking his Master if Moira was alright.

I walk slowly through the grass, heading towards the picnic. I can feel the sun on my face. It is nothing but wonderful weather. I can see Corvus and the other padawans, and a feeling of excitement builds. when I got the notice that we were all going to meet I realized i had no idea who or how many other padawans Corvus had. I had left my brown robe behind, and just had on my normal silver jedi garments. my two lightsabers clicked at my side, as I strode up to the cloth laid out, and the jedi that surrounded it.

"Hello master Raaf, and to the rest of you. It is a true pleasure to meet you."

The Jedi remained the center of peace and hope in the galaxy though the ages so it was right if we could have a party once in a while. This one was for Master Raaf to decide her padawan though she tried to disguise it as something different. I knew because I have seen this before when I was younger. People trying to test you when you least expect it. Though hey I wasn't complaining, this was free food, drink, and socializing.

The force knows that we needed it with the Sith kicking our butts across the galaxy and back. This was a time of relaxation and recuperation.

Corvus was as traditional as they went but like any Jedi, was obliged to make allowances in times of need. The current need was generated by too few Masters stepping forward to take Padawans.

So the picnic was a way for Corvus to confirm to those present that she would be Master to all of them - and now they all seem to have arrived, she would let them chat amongst themselves for a while before confirming what they already knew no doubt.

[ooc - Moria is about to start an LOA but wil be back :)]

Dair looked towards [member="Moira Kataline"], but it seemed everyone else wasn't worried.

'Perhaps she just needs time and space...I can find out if it was something I did after she is calm again.' Dair thought to himself, then sat down just past the edge of the blanket, letting his hands feel the grass beneath the tips of his fingers. He closed his eyes for a moment, tilting his head up towards the sun to relish in the feel of it. Prior to Master Raaf agreeing to take him on as a Padawan, he had been spending a great majority of his time helping the archivists to reorganize some of their materials. It was in such a role that Dair had first met Master Raaf, and from there gained a formal Master.

"How is everyone today?" Dair asked upon opening his eyes and looking at everyone in turn. He spared another glance towards the young woman who had moved away from the group, still worried, but focusing on those who were around him at the moment.

Drac was breathing heavily as he ran up to the clearing. Noticing everyone was already engaged in an activity or conversation of some sort, he stopped short. "Hey, uh, I know I'm late, but do you mind if I join you?" He huffed. Drac looked towards the woman who was obviously the master and bowed. "I'm in need of some training. I got all the basics and stuff, been here since I was a little kid" Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, he thought. "But, I mean, I haven't even used a real lightsaber yet, much less built my own. I guess I'm just not really sure what to do next."

Corvus listened as the Padawans talked amongst themselves. Just as she was about to speak, a newcomer arrived. She didn't recognise him and thought she knew all of the Younglings and Padawans around. Which led her to the only possible solution.

So she beckoned [member="Drac Tavo"] over and approximated her best bow - given that she was sitting down. "Good afternoon, I am Corvus. And welcome to Ossus, I'm guessing you've not been here before?"

She gazed around, smiling. "This is where I've spent the last dozen years. It's where all of the Jedi Order Padawans are trained. And recently we've opened our doors to Jedi from other Orders if they wish to train with our teachers. And in turn, our Padawans can work with Jedi from other Orders - if their Master confirms it is OK."

"This gathering is for those Padawan who serve the Galactic Republic. I suspect you are..a Mandalorian? Yes? They are a strong ally of the Republic and have many fine Jedi who would be honoured to be your Master no doubt. Perhaps we could work together in the future on a specific aspect of your training if your Master is agreeable."

"So please stay and join in the banter and help yourself to the food and drink. The iced tea is very refreshing on a day like today. And tell me, have no Mandalorian Jedi offered to be your Master as yet? If not, I can think of a few names to help you."

[member="Dair Cotarin"] | [member="Caleb Brolen"] | [member="Ardeo Sophos"] | [member="Uri Aureleos"] | [member="Nixia Wulfbane"]

Corvus gathered the Republic Padawans together and handed out the ryshcate on individual party plates. Each piece had a small lighted candle in it.

"Traditionally this cake is served on Corellia at special events and this feels like one. You have all expressed an interest in being my Padawan and therefore you have each been accepted into that role - unless of course you've changed your mind." She smiled and wondered if any would get up and leave.

"My primary focus will be missions, some group training for you and individual training where appropriate. Feel free to seek any other Republic Jedi trainer if you wish. If you would like to cast your net wider, please check with me. Upon reviewing the training records, a Knight from the Academy recently tried to steal from us. So I'd be happier if you made sure with me before you agreed to train with any Jedi from different Orders."

"Now certain Abilities you can learn quickly and I would not expect you to keep records, I'll just trust you to have learned the use of the Force. Namely Telekinesis, Force Sense, Force Push, Force Pull and Force Speed and the first Form. If you have any other Abilities you have learned previously, we can just have a chat to confirm the learning. So I'd expect your training to begin with your preferred Saber Form and most probably Force Barrier."

"So...any questions?" As she asked, she put a piece of ryshcate in her mouth.

Dair sipped his iced tea as he listened to Corvus speak. He looked around and saw that the attention of the other padawans was riveted to their Master as well.

'These shall be my family, it would appear' Dair thought to himself as he turned from them and back to Corvus. The thought gladdened him. He had been without a family for the majority of his life, and while he has put most of the horrors of slavery behind him, he still felt he had been missing out on family. Now he had one.

Corvus Raaf said:

Dair thought a moment, instructors had taken one look at his size and build and told him that he'd be very well suited for Form V. The medical personnel had even said that he was likely to not be done growing yet, markers in his DNA had shown the possibility for one or two more growth spurts.

"Is Force Barrier just as it sounds, a shield made of the Force?" He felt it might have been an obvious answer, but, for him at least, clarity of definition helped him to develop the ability.

Drac looked to [member="Corvus Raaf"], confused. "I, uh, didn't realize there was another faction of Mandalorian Jedi. I was brought here when I was young, but I guess that doesn't make me part of the Galactic Republic, does it?" Drac took a sip of iced tea, contently sighing at the taste.

"I've never really had a true master. I took part in the basic classes, but no Jedi has personally taken me under their wing. If you think there's a certain path I should follow, I'll gladly take it, but as of now, I'm just kind of drifting around."

Corvus smiled, "It's about what's important to you. The life of a Jedi is broadly the same wherever you go. One day, perhaps, there will be no distinctions. We'll all be one big Order. There were even planned talks on the subject but it's all gone cold. Meanwhile I'm building bridges with other Orders - and they are with us. But for now, it comes down to which Government you'd support if you had to choose. If the Sith invaded a Mandalorian planet and a Republic planet at the same time, which would you choose to defend. That's your choice as simply as I can explain it."

Uri sat up making sure to grab his tea first then took a bite of the ryshcate. He wasn't particularly fond of sweets but it wasn't bad. His attention then went back to his master listening to her intently. When she reached the end he didn't have any questions. He rarely did. He wasn't sure exactly why. Maybe that was just part of who he was. He turned his head to Dair as he asked a question. Uri knew this answer. It surprised him a little. Master Corvus was talking to another padawan so Uri opted to answer, Force barrier, shield, aura, armor... It's all the same thing a protective wall of force energy. Unique to the individual creating it."

Of course this was only what Uri had read on it. He'd yet to learn it himself. He'd yet to establish a primary lightsaber form as well. He didn't find any of them to do his weapon of choice justice. He contemplated form III but this was a weak maybe in his mind. More meditation and studying was required before he could figure out the one that would be best for him.
