Trade Federation Anyone?

Myra

Guest
So, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in possibly forming a Trade Federation 2.0, it's purpose?

Well, primarily, it'd be to assist companies of all tiers in growing in tier relatively faster than the normal way today, by promoting trade between companes of the Trade Federation, thus company's can achieve passive and active expansions much faster and make it easier for new company owners to learn how to run an effective company in the roleplay world, both OOCly (getting themselves out there, finding contacts, making deals, etc) and Icly (How to run a company IRP, basic roleplay stuff)

I'd also like to see the Trade Federation form into some form of faction (hopefully major) as a faction based around wealth instead of power, or the force, could be an interesting addition to the roleplay world, as well as open up better opportunities for new players to progress in the ranks of a major faction, as rank is determined by wealth (aka tier of company, and a few other defining factors.)

Heck, the Trade Federation could even make it possible for people to actually determine their exact income value instead of a rough estimate.

Now, how would this work ICly, what kind of government would they have?

Well, I was thinking of it like this. The Government could be similar to how major law firms are run (at least to my knowledge). You have "The Board" which is an oligarchic board of owners of particularly powerful company's, particularly Tier 5-6 companies, these members of "The Board" get a small cut (5-7%) of the wealth made from the smaller companies that make up the Federation, and in return, assist the smaller companies into becoming bigger by opening up trade deals, setting up economic summits, introducing them to major factions, etc.

It should also be noted that this faction will promote roleplay, so I was thinking that in order to join the faction that maybe one of the board has to 'sponsor' you or take responsibility, how this comes about could be a trade deal, or out of the kindness of that person's heart, who knows.

ANYWHO, this is just an Idea I had as I've fallen in love with this community as well as the Trade Federation after watching the series again.

But if you have any suggestions, comments, snide remarks, or would be interested in helping me establish the Trade Federation than please comment below! I’d love to hear your opinions!

[member="Dresden M'koor"] On a regional level within Silver Space, I created the Tion Cooperative Organization, which is a customs and currency union. Basically, all planets signed up agree to eliminate internal tariffs between members, while also enforcing a common external tariff on groups outside the TCO. ICily, the trade bloc allows the individual planets to pool their clout for better bargaining positions with larger powers (e.g. First Order, Galactic Alliance) while still affording political autonomy.

I've been trying to work on a similar organization on an interfactional level, beginning here. Currently, the SJO and Iron Empire are on board, but I need to draw up the final drafts of the plan for their review. I'm in the process of talking to other factions and groups. I'd love to work with you, as our aims seem pretty similar.

I think we are to a degree, while you're looking at individual planets, and I'm looking at companies. But I'd still be interested in seeing where it goes, but I have a feeling they might not be 100% compatable

[member="Dresden M'koor"] I agree, your idea is more along the lines of a commerce guild, while I'm thinking more of a trade bloc. That's not to say we can't work together. I'm looking to write with more business types as I expand my diplomacy efforts as a Jedi.

Oh, they can definitely cooperate! I think it'd definitely be beneficial for both parties.

[member="Dresden M'koor"] I agree. It would be in the best interest of your guild to promote free trade between parties to cut down on different regulations between separate markets. On the flip side, my trade deal is all about helping entrepreneurs and businesses expand their horizons in an effort to bring about economic growth for stability.

I do remember we had someone that was part of the Federation and had assets on Cato Neimoidea at the time, who was he again?

[member="Dresden M'koor"] , where would you be having this Trade Federation on the map?

I'm not entirely sure, I was thinking about talking to the Galactic Alliance to give up Coruscant for some sort of small percentage off all Trade Federation products, but I doubt they'll want to do that. So really it hasn't been decided yet.

Naw dude.

Keep itminor for now and fleet based.

Like a fledgling Trade Federation would probably have a lot of ships and rove around providing contracts and security to their shipments and stuff.

I like the focus on economy here. Be careful not to get bogged down in faction wars at first. That ends up being a death knell. Maybe hold multiple expos and make a planet your unofficial HQ?

This idea is great, there is unlimited potential here.

Couple questions

 • What is the primary story arc of the Faction?
 • What kind of RP would be the primary RP?
 • How does this fit nto char development for other folks chars?
 • What kind of characters are you looking to attract?
 • And the big one. Will the board be PC or NPC? Players tend to get an IC posistion and then vanish due to RL issues or lack of muse

Yeah I don't think that they'd give Coruscant up. That whole region of space is cluttered with major factions right on eachother's doorsteps. The Core is quite popular. I'd suggest picking an area where you have ample room for expansion without stepping on anyone's toes right away.

My own faction deals heavily in trade, is entirely neutral and has prospered for it. I hope that yours gains traction :)

Thanks! And thank you for the advice!

 • The primary story arc would probably be based around the turmoil of running a loosly aligned faction as it grows in power and status, and what decisions should be made to keep it running as well as how to interact with the other factions in the galaxy.
 • The Primary RP would probably be business arrangements, diplomacy, and at first I was thinking it could also have a lot about the principles and ethics of the faction of the whole (as well as trying to stay away from war and conquering, it'd be nice to have a more pacifistic faction), from there we'll see where it goes. Of course, this is open to change as I really would hate to bog anyone else down with boring RP that I, or a few select people enjoy.
 • As for other characters, the Trade Federation will probably effect independent companies by giving them a larger enemy to have to deal with in bid wars, and the cooperation among the Trade Federation companies will mean cheaper but better designed products, so independent companies will have trouble competing, so they'll either join the federation or join together with other independent companies to attempt to compete, as for independent characters, the Trade Federation will always be hiring mercenaries, explorers, scientists, diplomats, etc, as well as sponsore people who haven't been directly hired for a cut of the findings/loot/etc. As for major factions, I think seeing what practically would be the first Tier VII company would maybe cause a few problems, maybe. But the Trade Federation would always be open to selling their wares to any major faction, as well as their services (how extensive that goes, whether you can pay the Trade Federation to fight for you for example will be etablished in the early days of the faction, during the time they decide what their ethics should be.)
 • The characters I'm primarily looking for are business owners, but mercs, scientists who need funding, and explorers are all also welcomed to be hired and paid by the company for a large cutt of the findings or to protect independent company interests.
 • The Board will be PC, which I understand might not be the smartest of things, but if a player goes innactive they can simply be considered innactive from the board and be replaced by someone the board finds is more active and interested in running the Federation.

That may have something to do with me actually, at one point HK heard news of him mistreating his subjects and especially droids under his employ so he paid him a visit, and then he was never heard from again- ooooooooh *Spooky noises*

[member="Dresden M'koor"],

I'll echo what other major faction representatives said, Metal Lords would be willing to work with your faction to offer some commerce, advanced tech, and mercenary work your way. A lot of the designs and assets we have are old Trade Federation or Confederate relics, or based on them, but since there are many freed droids among us they may be willing to work with you only to boss the Trade Federation around for once since usually it's the other way around.

I'll post in the morning. Thank you :) [member="Jerolme Moore"] is the Governer of Coruscant. I think that he should be made aware of this.
