Strengths:
  • Damage Over Time: Meant to cause damage over a short period of time rather than an immediate impact.
Weaknesses:
  • Counters: Anti-ion/emp measures are able to counter or at least minimize the weapon's damage output.
  • Discharge: Runs the risk of discharge/overcharge blowback that can cause the weapon to misfire this happens either as the weapon is being hit while charging or is left to 'overcharge' for longer than recommended.
DESCRIPTION

Based on the Longbow II, the Toxotai is the Ion counterpart to the Plasma-based railgun. The Toxotai is made to counter shields with a lethal blow of ion energy weapons. The key to the Toxotai is the damage over time to the shields, the damage is dependent on charge time. Much like the Longbow the railgun does need time to charge properly, and while it can fire on minimal charge - for the most effective damage output it is best to keep it at full charge, which is roughly ten to fifteen seconds but can be overcharged for up to twenty seconds but this does run the risk of fatal discharge/overcharge, so the recommended level is seventeen seconds.

Countermeasures against ion energy are capable of resisting/minimizing the weapon's overall damage. On the other side of this, the weapon can leave secondary splash damage on impact, where there is a three-meter radius where ion damage can occur. Again, typical countermeasures can be used to ease the damage or minimize or resist outright technology depending.
