Tournament of Sullust Second Match - Aela Talith vs Kaia Starchaser

It was the aftermatch of another great match. In the press box, Arex Adama turned to his broadcast partner Mori Otani Kane and gave him a smarmy smile.

"What a barn-burner, Mori. Truly spectacular. Let's hope the next one can live up to the hype."

"Absolutely, Arex. This one should be an amazing, highly-skilled match-up." As Kane spoke, highlight/promo packages played on the screen for both competitors. "We've got Jedi Marshall Aela Talith going up against the Starchaser heir, Kaia Starchaser, in what could be the match of the tournament. Of course, both are highly touted by Alen Na'Varro and he's been quoted as saying that either one of these two could walk away with the title of Champion."

"Exciting stuff, Mori. Now to our host."

The coverage cut to the arena, which was a large circle that was about eighty metres in diameter. The audience were protected by large bubble shields, which would hopefully keep out most of the flying projectiles. In the centre stood Na'Varro, amping up the crowd with his arms.

"Ladies and gentlemen, HERE WE GO! For the second tournament match, fighting out of Sullust and representing the Galactic Alliance, Aela Taligh!" The audience roared their approval. "In the opposite corner, also fighting for the GA, it's Kaia Starchaser!" Once again, cheers for another hometown favourite.

Alen grinned in anticipation.

"Begin!"

Match continues for one week or until a decisive outcome is reached. Good luck!

Aela walked out onto the field with her usual stoic expression. Her features had not changed, her hair was still caught in that tight braid, and her eyes were still the same bright orange. One hand held her lightsaber loosely in the crook of its fingers, the other one simply hung at her side.

She wore no armor to speak of and had left her crushgaunts at home, she wouldn't need them for this.

Her eyes set on her opponent, Kaia.

Oddly enough she considered Kaia somewhat of a friend. Aela didn't have many of those, but Kaia had always proven to be reliable and trustworthy, something that Aela liked about her. Fighting her in the tournament was a double edged sword. She was almost certain that she could win but in doing so she would have to defeat her friend. A sigh escaped her lips and her head shook, the flick of her thumb causing her lightsaber to activated with a snap-hiss.

Right, why was Kaia here again? She signed up, she wanted to prove herself. This would be a tricky situation, wouldn’t it? Getting this far, that was some kind of feat. Was it the Force? Maybe, she was a Starchaser though, and if they were maybe a bit handicapped when it came to the Force, made up for it when you put a starship in the mix, though. Unlike the Taliths, who were a bit opposite.

Unlikely green eyes, coming from Starchaser stock, surveyed the arena, and the ring as she stepped in. Dark typical Jedi robes were her choice of dress here. Her lightsaber hung at her waist, her hand grabbing the hilt, one that Micah had built months, or was it years, or some weird time dilation ago? Did that really matter? No, what mattered was a friend had constructed it, and her sometimes-teacher and provided the crystal for it.

The way she’d be winning this is only if Aela had provided Kaia with a ship. She was a Warden of the sky, a shuttle pilot, pick up and delivery. She knew where her skills lay, but she did want to get involved with the Alliance, and this seemed the best way, she just didn’t want to have to fight her friend. Skilled with sensing her way through the Force, navigating, and finding those empty spots where no one cared to look or go, as well as moving, she had a limited card to play against Aela. She’d have to be faster to hope to win.

Unless she got a ship.

Still, her ice-blue crystal, something to represent Csilla, the secondary-Starchaser homeworld, and a world Kaia definitely loved, sure, she was Corellian, but she had spent more time in Chiss space than the ancestral homeworld ignited in the arena, humming in tandem with @Aela Taltith’s blade

Small shallow breaths pressed through her lungs, lifting her chest for brief seconds before letting it fall again.

For a moment, Aela simply watched her friend. Silence reigned through the arena, the only sound being the thrum of their lightsabers. The older girl watched for a moment more, her eyes flickering closed in a long blink. She took in a single breath, a deep gust of air flowing through her as the force surged through every muscle in her body.

Slowly her eyes folded open, a single thought pulling through her mind. Sorry Kaia.

In order to win, she would have to make this fast, and in order to make it fast she would likely cause her friend some pain. She didn't want to, but this was a tournament after all.

As soon as her eyes opened Aela moved. The force surged through her, and her legs pushed off against the sands of the arena. She launched herself at Kaia, dashing towards her friend and in an instant becoming little more than a blur. She closed the gap between the two of them in a heartbeat, her body moving quickly as she slashed towards Kaia's chest with her lightsaber, flicking her free hand forward at the same time in a harsh punch towards the left of the womans abdomen.

She was going to get her face punched. That was what Aela did to people. Don’t you know? She runs in, punches the dark side in the face, and then takes them captive, and what not. But… Kaia’s face was too pretty to get punched. Starchaser vanity, or what not, but really, Aela was like… wicked tall, and that was scary in and of itself, plus, the abilities she had?

Maybe that family couldn’t fly, looking at you Kaili, but they could fight, and lead. That was why Aela was one of the Jedi Marshal’s, after all.

The dark haired girl may be a pilot, but her instinctive astrogation, an extension of the Sense realm of the Force also allowed her to find empty spots in the world around her, but here? It was a tournament, fight and lose or fight and win, running away was an automatic loss. The lightsaber was in her hand, and she could feel Aela coming.

Locked up, her legs weren’t moving, she was standing in place, watching her friend, her foe, coming at her. Lightsaber first, that was where the devastation came in. She swung her blade, eyeing Aela’s and wanting to knock it away. That was her first step, but if her blade made contact, and stopped the Talith saber, Kaia still hadn’t seen the punch coming. And that would topple her at the waist for a moment, making the Starchaser back up.

At least it wasn’t her face.

When she had the chance to clear her head, something she knew needed to be done fast, the Starchaser was calling the Force to her, more dependent on sabers but she was still able to start running at Talith, and hurl a mild telekinetic blast at the Talith, before moving into an assisted slide tackle (soccer style, yeah, I’m American), where her saber was going for the legs.

Aela moved as fast as she could, her hand came up, a thin barrier of nothing forming in front of her palm. The telekinetic blast erupted against the thin wall, cracking and breaking it but rendering the force inert. She shifted slightly her lightsaber flicking back.

Only then did she see the young Starchaser sliding towards her.

She let out a curse, but ti was too late.

Kaia crashed into her, pushing her legs out from beneath her. She flailed slightly, but she would not be stopped. Her hand reached out and attempted to grapple with Kaia, grasping the woman and pulling her arm out and to the side in order to wrench the appendage into a dislocated position.

"Sorry." She whispered the word.

It was always clear, going into this that Kaia was going to have to fight smarter, not harder. Play to her strengths, and there was no way a Starchaser was going to beat anyone in a Force-to-Force battle. It had to come from thinking outside the box. And Kaia was actually probably worse with the Force than her father.

Kaia made the slide, made the hit on Aela, and that was more than she expected. The girl was a pilot, and a sniper, she wasn’t rough and tumble. But when Aela grabbed her, she was struggling. The dark haired girl feeling the strain on her arm, but still linked with the orange eyed Master, couldn’t get a move in with her arm. Stomping her fight, though, that should could do.

And did do.

Instep, right? That was what that holo about the beauty queen contest said? Go for the instep?
Still, she was screaming, with the arm thing, even if her friend did apologize.
