To End All War

Tarek'Gor

Noble Goals but Foul Deeds
Stomach grumbling, Tarek frowned as he looked at the Jawa peddler. "My blaster is worth considerably more then 300" he said indignantly.

The Jawa clucked in amusement and replied in his native tongue "Yes, but you desperate".

The little creature was laughing at him Tarek thought. He shook his head in disgust at his misfortune but then relented.

"Fine. 300".

It wasn't much, probably not even enough to get off world but at least it would feed him for a few days. Tarek took his money and meandered through the market in search of a food vendor. The Mos Eisley space-port attracted all manner of beings, some desperate, some trapped in poverty and some just simply scum. Tarek purchased a flatbread from a wandering merchant and stuffed his face as he walked when a strange human caught his attention.

The woman was tall and lacked the gangly skinniness of the malnourished locals. Stature aside however her complexion was what attracted the most attention. The suns of Tatoon were harsh and it was rare to see anyone without bronzed skin, even those who did not venture outside often had some form of tanning. This woman however was a pale milky white, and her skincolor was made even more apparent by her bright auburn hair. She was dressed in fine robes, likely those of a noble or perhaps a doctor and on her back was a large pack holding something heavy looking within.

Her beauty alone would have kept Tarek's attention but the conversation she was having with a decrepid looking rodian was what drew his attention further.

"Need to get to these coordinate" She was saying.

"Nope dune sea. Cant take you there. No one can"

Tarek'Gor

Noble Goals but Foul Deeds
The human woman turned away from the Rodian, her shoulders slumped in frustration. She noticed Tarek watching her and cocked her head to the side and frowned at him in what Tarek assumed was a combination of annoyance, curiosity and perhaps fear. This was Tatooine after all and beautiful were wise to be leery of strange men. Tarek held the woman's gaze and kept his facial features locked in a mask of indifference. Years ago Tarek had discovered that in dealing with the opposite sex during transactions of business it was generally wise to not give away that you found them attractive. He cocked his head to the side mimicking her gesture as he swallowed the last of his flat bread and then he strode over to her making it a point to not interrupt their gaze. The woman blinked and evaluated him from head to toe with her eyes before crossing her arms and waiting for him to say something. Satisfied that he had neutralized her ability to use her beauty as a bargaining chip, Tarek smiled and spoke.

"The dune sea is one of the most dangerous places in the galaxy. If the sun doesnt burn you to a crisp, the few predators of the sands will make you a meal, and if by chance they fail you are likely to run out of water. What could you possibly need to go out there for?"

"Im looking for something"

Inwardly Tarek assessed the woman. Her basic was spoken with a posh accent and his original assumption of her being high born was correct.

"Show me where you need to go" Tarek asked and the woman handed him a datapad with a map. Tarek frowned visibly, the location would present a long journey and would actually present all the dangers that he had stated earlier and then some.

"The cost will be 10,000 credits. fifty percent up front and I will get you there and back safely"

"I will pay you 10,000 up front and 20,000 on my safe return, but there is one condition" The woman paused as Tarek raised an eyebrow.

"We cant travel via speeder, we need to travel by Bantha"

Tarek's jaw dropped.

Zed had been talking to a scrap vendor when he caught wind of a conversation about going to the dune sea, he waited for them to be finished and walked to the women and the Twi'lek she had been speaking to and said in a dark tone,
"I'm afraid that not even a Tusken Raider is crazy enough to go into the Dune Sea on just Banthas. If you'd like i could get you both transport on a skiff to your destination, if i get paid that is. If your worried about being detected or followed i can get us an escort too, i have a few favors that i can ask of the local Hutt's. So what do you say?"
Zed reached his arm out to the woman to shake hands and then remembered that he hadn't introduce himself. He removed his clone trooper scout helmet and said in a easy and calm tone,
"My name is C001A34, but you can call me Zed."

Tarek watched as Mira took [member="Zed"] s hand shook it firmly but then graciously declined his offer of speeder and escort.

"No Zed, No speeders, no hutts, it must be by bantha"

Mira smiled slightly before continuing. Tarek guessed at what she was thinking. Now that there were two of them, the payment would likely be split between them. He admired her shrewdness in silence as she spoke further with Zed.

"5000 for each of you upfront, you can buy your own Bantha's and supplies, 10,000 for each of you on my safe return" She stated confidently.

Tarek considered her offer before nodding his acceptance. Even cut in half, it was a good deal. Besides the trooper looked like he would be useful in a bind.

Mira and Tarek both looked at Zed waiting for his answer.

A Dum-series pit droid came running passed [member="Zed"], Mira and [member="Tarek'Gor"], holding onto what looked to be a black hooded long coat, a belt and an attached pouch. "Uba wamma Sleemo!" Came yelled after it as a Pale white skinned woman with a tail and horns, came running after it. Her hair was white and tied back in a long braid down to her waist. In her left hand were two swords, one long-sword and another scimitar as well as a strap that held up two slugthrower holsters that had revolvers inside them. Her right was busy holding up her pants as she came charging after the thieving pit droid. she wore a tank top over her top that was black and matched her pants. "Hey Pateessa! Stop that Stoopa, little Droi!" She shouted at the four, clearly she had been chasing the little bugger for a while given how much she was wheezing and panting, not to mention sweating thought hat might be attributed to Tatooine's sweltering sun.

Zed sighed dropped his helmet and pulled a grappling hook out of his backpack spinning it and then releasing the tool hurling it at the droid catching it by the legs and forcing it to the ground. Zed quickly ran to the droid pinning it under his knee and said to the woman chasing the droid, "Hey miss is this what you were after?"

Came running towards [member="Zed"] and stopped resting her hands against her knees as the running had obviously taken it's toll on her. "Y-yeah huff thanks ha!" She let out between long breaths and pants as she kicked the droids head to shut it off and immedietly took the belt and fashioned it around her. "Thanks Pateessa been chasing the droid for half an hour now and was really wondering if I'd ever catch it." She said as she caught her breath and attached her swords and holsters to the belt, then taking the coat and putting it on with the hood over her head, horns jutting out from two holes in her hood. "Ah this heat's gonna kill me, oh sorry where are my manners Name's Zreame." She said with a bit smile as she put out her hand in the gesture of a handshake.

[member="Tarek'Gor"]

Zed returned the smile and grabbed Zreame's hand. "I'm Zed." He said turning to untie the grappling hook from the droid's ankle. "So what's up with this droid, why was it running from you?" Zed packed the grappling hook into his pack and put his helmet back on knocking some dust out of it that had gathered up in it when he dropped it.

She rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment. "Yeah well I sort of woke up as this little bugger was going out of the cantina window with my things in it's thieving hands." She then explained as she chuckled a little to herself. "Seems you can't even trust the droids on this dustball huh?" She then said as she looked towards Maira and [member="Tarek'Gor"] then back towards [member="Zed"]. "Um am I interrupting something perchance?" She then said as she dusted of her coat and picked up the droid, thoughts of revenge upon the droid already running through her mind. 'Maybe I'll make it into a butler for me.'

Tarek'Gor

[member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"], was a species Tarek had never seen before, but before he could say anything Mira stepped forward and introduced herself to the woman.

"Oh my goodness your a Cernun, never seen one of you before. I'm propositioning some adventurous types to take me to through the Dune Sea, are you by chance interested? Id love to hear more about your species. I hear Cernun are blind at night, is that true..." Mira said excitedly, prattling on.

Tarek watched Mira get excited over meeting the newcomer and concluded that Mira was definitely some sort of scholar, noone else would find meeting an alien so exciting. Tarek shrugged, their lenghty trek through the desert would be perilous and any help would be welcome.

"I am going to purchase our Bantha's and our supplies, I will leave you two to your ... discussion" Tarek said as Mira continued to talk at the Cernun barely pausing to give a nod to Tarek.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mira had not made good on promise of 10000 credits up front but she had given Tarek just enough to buy supplies. Part of the Twilek wondered if the scholar would be able to make good on her promise to pay 20000 as a reward for the completion of their journey. To Tarek's surprise he wasn't anxious about the payment, something about their journey seemed right, as if was meant to happen.

Bantha's on Tatooine were a prime commodity. Not only were they an excellent source of milk and powerful beasts of burden but they were also held in high regard by many of the locals, including the sand people. Still Tarek was able to secure a small herd using the upfront payment that Mira had given him. They weren't the highest quality beasts but they looked hardy enough to make the arduous journey into the Dune Sea. Tarek found himself wondering why Mira was so adamant about travelling by Bantha. They didn't offer any advantage to concealment and they were much slower then speeders or skiffs. Even more expensive then the Bantha's however was water but it was the prime commodity that needed to accompany them. If they ran out of water, they might survive for a week or two on Bantha milk, but at some point even that would run dry.

Satisfied that he had purchased all the provisions that they would require Tarek, with the herd of Bantha's in tow began to make his way back to where he had left Mira, [member="Zed"] and [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"]. Tarek saw a dark hooded man standing approaching him and he felt a chill at the back of his neck. The man approached and asked in a flat tone;

"Bantha Herder, have you seen any of these individuals" The man held up a picture of a group of men and women in scholarly garb, among them was Mira.

"I am sorry stranger I have not" Tarek replied lying and the man continued to another bystander without another word.

Tarek looked over his shoulder to ensure he wasn't being followed and then hastened to where he had left Mira and the others.

Zreame was a bit taken aback by the sudden bursts of questions from Mira but decided it might be best to just answer. "Yes i would be interested seems like it would be fun and yes we are blind during the night which is why we carry around night vision goggles." She said with a cheerful tone and produced a pair of night-vision goggles that she used out of her pouch and then put them back. "So this journey what will it be about and what's the pay since you said propositioning I assume they'r coming because there is something involved that's rewarding, correct?" Her tone stayed cheerful but she seemed to have a mischievous smirk on her lips as she looked the scholar over a bit and then looked at [member="Zed"]. "Are you coming along as well?" She'd ask and then assumed that [member="Tarek'Gor"] was either a contractor or perhaps a bodyguard of Mira's.

Tarek'Gor

Noble Goals but Foul Deeds
Tarek hastened to where he had left Mira and the others and arrived just as Mira was just explaining the rewards of their journey to [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"]. With some urgency in his tone Tarek interrupted thier endless exchange;

"Its a three way split on whatever she pays us," he said to Zreame as he looked over his shoulder "you'll get your share at the end when she pays us. But we need to depart now"

"Oh Tarek, what a wonderful herd you found, did they cost much..." Mira began, clearly unmoved by Tarek's urgent tone.

Before Tarek could pick up the woman and throw her over the back of a Bantha he heard a familiar voice from behind him.

"Ah pateesa, you are still here and still looking for a trip to the Dune Sea!" Tarek turned around to see the decrepit Rodian that Mira had been dealing with when he had approached her that morning. Tailing close behind him was another rodian armed with a blaster rifle. "You come with us now, we take you"

"Umm. No thank you" Mira stated naively.

The rodian closest to Mira quickly drew a blaster pistol. "Hehehe. Someone looking for you. 5000 cred and we no tell him you are going to Dune Sea".

Tarek cursed himself inwardly, not only had he sold his blaster that very morning but his vibroblade was strapped to the back of a Bantha and out of reach. [member="Zed"] the trooper did not appear to be in sight, but [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"] was standing fairly close to the pair of hooligans.

Zed sprinted around the corner and to the group, he was out of breath and almost wheezing as he stopped before the others. "Trandoshan bounty hunter... after... me... Coming here... quickly..." As Zed painfully breathed out that sentence a Trandoshan Bounty hunter zipped around the corner on his speeder bike carrying a blaster rifle. The Trandoshan fired two shots that missed the others and that nearly grazed Zed. The trooper pulled his blaster rifle and aimed through the scopes firing just as the trandoshan prepared to fire again, a blue blaster bolt was sent straight through the Bounty Hunters head dropping him to the sandy ground, dead.
"We should probably get out of here." Zed said standing up still breathing heavily. "I see you got the banthas and supplies, nice work Tarek."

Zreame's cheerful expression didn't change much when the Rodians came and threatened Mira, though her hands moved down to the hilts of her swords that were strapped around her hips. When [member="Zed"] came running over the corner and the trandoshian fired at him, she took the chance to draw her slugthrower revolvers and put a bullet in both rodians knees. "You know threatening a lady is a big mistake Pateessas" She said with a smile though for some reason it seemed quite threatening. "Especially if she has her friends around her~" She then said as she pressed the hot barrels of the revolvers against their shoulders. "How about no credits and you don't tell anyone or I come back and use my swords instead hmm?" She then said as she holstered her revolvers and tapped her swords.

This planet wasn't the most ideal to her and given the fact she had been stranded on it for three day's had made her pretty much intolerant to most of the population. Though [member="Tarek'Gor"] Seemed like a nice enough guy since he was helping Mira out, even if it was for payment.

Tarek'Gor

Noble Goals but Foul Deeds
As Tarek was chiding himself for not having a weapon on hand Zreame took advantage of a distraction created by Zed and made relatively short work of the two Rodians. Before Tarek could blink an eye both men were on the ground, weapons lying beside them clutching at their knees. Tarek being a pirate generally didn't like to leave lose ends, but given how Zreame had made short work of their petty attempt to rob them he guessed that fear would make them hesitant to encounter her again. Tarek also had to admit, he was impressed with her marksmanship and given her dexterity he guessed her swordsmanship was top notch as well.

[member="Zed"] had rejoined them and Tarek gave the trooper a nod at his thanks. However the dead Trandoshan and injured Rodians were starting to draw attention so Tarek motioned to Zed and Zreame that they should leave as soon as possible. Tarek looked at Mira, then at [member="Zed"], and then at [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"]. They made odd bedfellows, but Tarek had to admit that he was glad to have their company.

"Pick a bantha everyone"

The group made thier way out of the city and began thier long trek towards the destination Mira had specified. Mira took an old matriarch as her ride and rode ahead of the column giving the old bantha cow directions as they rode. Tarek, [member="Zed"] and [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"] each picked a bantha as their own from amongst the herd and rode amongst the column as they pleased. Occasionally Tarek would drop to the rear to watch behind them.

Being novices under the desert the group travelled during the day and rested at night, this gave them the advantage of seeing where they were going though the heat tired them out quickly. For the first week almost no one spoke as they were all adjusting to the extreme climate. But as time wore on, the group fell into a daily ritual. They would rise at dawn and Tarek would distribute provisions for the day, including water. From there they rode continuously, stopping only to allow the Banthas to feed any insect hives they encountered. At sunset the group would stop and begin thier nightly routine. The bantha herd would circle the group providing shelter from wind and some protection from nocturnal predators.

Mira would set a group of glow-sticks at the centre of the camp as a makeshift fire and would sit to write notes on a data pad she carried. Occasionally she would pull out her backpack and check on a large device she carried within it. She never removed it from the bag however so Tarek never saw exactly what it was. The others would usually join her after taking care of the camp buisiness of milking the Bantha's and checking thier hooves for damage. Occasionally one of them would stand watch.

On this particular night, the travellers were sitting around the camp swapping stories. Tarek told a story from his pirate days about a place called the Chiloon Rift and his encounter with a group called the Primeval and one of their leaders Zambrano the Hutt. Finishing his story he waited to see if either [member="Zed"] or [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"] would share a tale of thier own.

During the trip Zreame had adjusted and made some changes to her saddle so she could just lie and relax while they traveled, singing a few tunes when she listened to her headphones. She kept in the middle of the heard mostly so she could easily react to whatever direction they'd need to react to. The worst thing about the trip was the sweltering heat during the day which made her discard nearly all of her clothing besides her tank top and pants, making a makeshift tent with her swords and coat to cover herself from the ray's and then came the freezing nights which made her most of the time cuddle up against one of the youngest banthas in the heard for warmth.

She didn't mind the silence from the others as to her the trip was like a safari adventure/vacation. On one of the nights [member="Tarek'Gor"] began to tell them a story from his pirate days and she listened with intent while she sipped a bit on the stash of Avedame juice she had bought right as they left Mos Eisley. when he was done she downed a little shot of the juice and then began to tell them of her days on her homeworld of Cernunnos and the wild celebrations the people and government threw as well as the month long celebration of Salkensdom, which was a celebration of metalworking and masters of the crafts. The celebration was mainly used as a way for masters to choose apprentices but there were also a lot of contests of strength and combat as well as parades, fireworks great food and loud music. She told them that they'd have to come to Cernunnos for that celebration if they ever wanted to really party.

After that she also told them of the first time she got to use a forge though she singed her eyebrows off and made a small bent and unusable fork through all her hard work but it also made her enjoy making things, which was the main reason she became an engineer in the first place. She then lit a honey flavored Cigarillo and watched the smoke trail of from her sight as her night-vision googles rested on her forehead and kept her waist long white hair combed back. She then looked at @Zed. "So you want to share a story now? or should we torture our scholar to tell us one~♪" She then said as she flashed Mira a mischievous smile.

Zed looked at Zreame but there was no emotion on his face he was blank. "I think a story from our scholar would be very interesting. So Mira would you please delight us with a story. Or maybe tell us about our destination and why you insisted we travel by Bantha? What's with all of this secrecy? What are you after and why go through this much trouble to get it?" Zed was burning with anger and standing up glaring at Mira, he wanted answers and he wanted them now.

Tarek'Gor

Noble Goals but Foul Deeds
Tarek sitting by the camp-fire raised an eyebrow surprised at Zed's sudden change of mood. The soldier asked legitimate questions. Questions that Tarek was also curious about, but he guessed that the trooper would not get much answers from Mira with his approach. Mira being a confident upper class lady with some worldly experience was not likely to be cowed by intimidation though Tarek guessed she would answer better to principle or even reason.

Mira suddenly uncomfortable at all the attention and Zeds's apparent hostility made a scrunched up face at the soldier and pulled her bag and whatever was inside it closer to her person.

"Mr. Zed Ill have you know I have three advanced degrees and I am published on over 40 worlds. I will not be spoken to like that from some grunt with an attitude problem. Maybe you should have asked those questions before you agreed to take my money. You'll get you're answers when we get to where were going!" Mira was standing staring daggers at the solider, then suddenly realized that she was making a scene and sat back down.

Tarek chuckled to himself and then looked too see how [member="Zed"] and [member="Zreame Ithrac Zeibitha"] reacted to Mira's explanation. The artifact that she clearly considered valuable was sitting at her side inside its back pack. Tarek had watched her examine it on many occasions but he never got a good look at it because she never removed it from her bag. It also never left her side. Tarek had surmised that whatever it was had immense worth, though not necessarily in credits. Whenever Tarek looked at the artifact he felt a tingling reverberate through his mind. The artifact had a presence that represented something greater then himself, greater then their minuscule quest, and even greater then all of thier lives. Tarek was unable to explain why he felt this way, though he guessed it had something to do with the force.

The Cernun stared at Mira for a moment before she looked at [member="Zed"] and then towards [member="Tarek'Gor"]. The soldiers outburst had brought up some valid questions and the horned woman stood up and walked towards Mira, stopping a few steps away from her. "I get that some of the questions Zed brought up are one's that you don't want to answer... uhmm just yet I mean." Her hand swirled around when she paused to find the right words but then she stared at Mira with a questioning look. "Now I'll respect that there are some of those questions you don't want to answer but there is one question I want answered right now." She stopped as she adjusted the night-vision goggles on her forehead and over her eyes. "Why in in all the karking galaxy did we have to go on banthas?! I'll be bathing for day's to get the smell off me and my clothes." The bantha that she had been riding on gave her a snort and she looked towards it. "Calm down I'm not saying your a horrrible way to travel or anything... it's just that you smell." She said with a smile which made the bantha rest down again.
