- One of the smallest ships to mount a turbolaser.
- Fast
- Good defense systems.
- When firing the turbolaser, speed is reduced to 'Average' due to power being diverted to the weapon from the engines.
- Extremely limited availability- only one squadron of the elite prototype version was created, and they are being sold to different individuals. As such, it will be nearly impossible for buyers to form a full squadron of these ships.
One of the most advanced starfighter development programs House Mecetti Nationalized Industries ever attempted, the Tie/ha 'Jester' represents the pinnacle of Attack Starfighter development. One of the smallest ships to mount a turbolaser, the Jester starfighter can actually perform effective strafing runs on Capital Ships. It also has ample defense systems, excellent speed and acceptable maneuverability, and a top-rated hyperdrive. The use-case of the starfighter involves acting as the leader in fighter/bomber squadrons performing close-in assaults on hardened targets. It can open up with torpedoes at long range before using its heavy guns to devastate the sorts of targets that can usually shrug off fighter-based lasers.
Maintaining the performance of a starfighter with such a power-draining turbolaser aboard has required very expensive high-power and high-speed power couplings that enable power transfers to reduce starfighter speed while the main guns are active. The platinum-grade power couplings and other premium components of the weapons and drive systems will need to be economized to produce the starfighter in viable consumer quantities when this ship finally goes into production later this year.
While it is a shame that the full-production model of the Jester is bound to lose some of this starfighter's capability, House Mecetti has assured the reporters at 'Starships Today' that the full production model will be nearly as capable as these shockingly potent prototypes. Until the production Jester hits the market, only a single squadron of this remarkable starfighter exists. Word on the street is that House Mecetti will be selling some of these starships at various charity auctions to high-rolling collectors.
Starship Today will report on the production version of the Jesters as soon as they become available, but if they are anything like the prototypes, we expect this bold endeavor to be a great success for House Mecetti.
