PRODUCTION INFORMATION

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • By using isotope-5 fuel rods as the main fuel source for the engine, the thrust power and thus the speeds offered by the Tidal Engine are significantly faster than engines using standard fuel sources.

STRENGTHS
  • The isotope-5 fuel provides a greatly enhanced thrust power for any fighter, bomber, or other ship that have a Tidal Engine installed on it.
  • Using thermo-converters, much like with the larger Crest Drives, the Tidal is much more energy efficient and is able to keep its heat levels well within safety standards by using that heat to provide additional energy for the engine to draw upon.
  • At the behest of some traditionalists within the company, the Tidal Engine makes that iconic sound from ancient Imperial TIEs.

WEAKNESSES
  • Much like the engines used on older TIE fighters, the mechanisms within the Tidal are very precise. Any misalignment or deliberate sabotage creates a ticking time bomb once the engine is fired up.

DESCRIPTION

With the Aurora Crest Drive entering production, the design team moved onto their next project at the behest of Ary Jaxson: designing an engine that was equally efficient, powerful, and would be used for Aurora Industries' smaller ships. A debate between the team on whether to design a fusial engine, like Incom's famous fighters, or an ion engine like those found within the Sith Empire and New Imperial Order ensued and was ultimately decided in favor of an ion engine. The one stipulation that was required was it needed to make that iconic sound that Imperialists on the team loved on the history holos.

The new ion engine, dubbed the Tidal Ion Engine, was created around an isotope-5 fuel core, using specially made rods that could be fed directly into the engine and used bit by bit to provide power. Isotope-5 put through a further ionization was shown to produce significant thrust power, but produced heat levels that could be worrisome. The problem was solved by utilizing thermo-converters just as in the Crest Drive to keep heat at a safe level and provide additional energy for the engine.
