The Battle of Brosi

IMPERIAL CONFEDERATION

INVASION-002.png

When the Imperial Confederation marched into the Thandon Star Cluster, they sought to deliver a crushing blow to the Sith Order, humbling them after their numerous victories against the fading Galactic Alliance and avenging the Imperial world of Tion, which had once been subjected to a base delta zero by the Sith. It was meant to be the beginning of the end for the Sith and yet despite the Confederation’s best efforts the Sith held their ground and repelled the Imperial Fleets and Armies sent to destroy them.

In the wake of the Imperial rout at Brosi, the retreating units of the Imperial Armed Forces regroup at Minnotoine where Imperial personnel can rest, recover from their injuries and socialize as they share the burden of defeat. At the same time the Imperial Center for Military Operations buzzes with activity as damage reports, casualty lists, strategic assessments and the current statues of all armies and fleets involved in the battle of Brosi continue to flood in.

While the Imperials recover from this defeat, Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen has issued a call for all Imperial personnel requesting for after action reports to be delivered effective immediately. Every unit whether they are frontline troops or mere support staff are required to submit a detailed account of their experiences with the Sith defenders. With these reports, the Imperial High Command hopes to learn more about the tactics employed by their enemy and examine crucial mistakes that were made during the battle as to ensure that the next time they confront the Sith, it will not end in disaster.

All participants of the Invasion of the Thandon Star Cluster are encouraged to join this thread and document their exploits as a summary of the invasion. Please highlight others as well, and feel free to recommend other characters who you believe have earned an award. These reports will be used for potential in-character promotions and rewards

Battle of Brosi
Tactical Assessment

Admiral Squesha

The Invasion covered many fields of battle and would be impossible to recount in full. This report will only discuss the battle in and around the asteroid field. Imperial fleets entered the battlefield at different times and positions. My fleet exited the closest to the asteroid belt, where we anticipated the Sith would be hiding. From the beginning of the battle problems began to arise. Despite the intent for a sudden and rapid strike it appeared that the SO were waiting for us. They had set traps and weapons within the belt and much of their ships were cloaked to prevent detection. This hindered our ability to make effective plans, as we did not know what we were up against.

Our fleets pressed forwards, with the seventh fleet in moving into the asteroid field to find enemy ships, and other fleets moving on the flanks. We found an enemy fleet and attempted combat, but they withdrew away from us. Sensing a trap we pulled out of the field and executed a Thrawn Pincher to move Admiral Zonil's fleet into a better position.

It is here that we must acknowledge the loss of the Tyrant IV class cruiser Pallisade. In an effort to protect the Interdictor Manipulator during the manuver it came under heavy enemy fire. Severely damaged it moved between bombs aimed for the interdictor, sacrificing itself for the greater battle. It turned back the assault on the Interdictor and allowed for the safe transit of Zonil's fleet. Captain Illastrin Noore and his four hundred crew members all perished in the detonation. I am requesting a memorial in the capitol to commemorate their sacrifice.

The enemy began to reveal more and more of themselves and we began to see what a suboptimal positon we were in. Repulsorlift manipulation launched several asteroids at us, and consequent firepower took a heavy toll on our shields and hulls. Fighters engaged in vicious dogfights as capital ships exchanged heavy blows. On all sides it was the same. The SO would reveal themselves, activate previously unrecognized defenses and attack viciously.

Despite this we were pushing on, and potentially may have beaten them back with sheer firepower. But the emergence of a phenomena known as a force storm forced us to withdraw, lest our ships be torn apart. We observed the SO fleeing too, showing how little care the SO give even to their safety. We may have lost the battle but the war has just begun.

Reccomendations

It is clear to me that we lacked the element of surprise, which allowed the enemy to prepare. The invasion was supposed to be top secret and yet the SO knew about it, even to the point of knowing where to deploy. This tells me that we must have a leak, and intense security crackdowns must be initiated to prevent future defeats.

The SO clearly had time to prepare defenses and positions which leads me to another factor we lacked: scouting. We were working on outdated information, and it cost us dearly. We need to know the battlefield thoroughly before we engage.

Finally many problems and indeed our ultimate withdrawal was caused by the SO's use of the force. Our fighters were helpless to mental manipulation and the force storm and wormhole anomalies could not be countered. It is my recommendation we find ways to neutralize their force abilities to even the playing field, and to utilize our own force users more effectively. If we sent assassins or bounty hunters in force the Sith would be too distracted to engage us with their abilities.

The seventh Fleet is reqrouping at Minntooine shipyards where they are being repaired, resupplied and rearmed. I intend to fortify this system greatly, as this will be their first target. I am requesting to set up hyperspace mines and activation of reserve fleets.

Battle of Brosi
After Action Report/Tactical Assessment
ISB Field Commander Narantuyaa Asther

This report will contain my assessment of what transpired within the Citadel on the surface of Brosi. I will admit, this report will be short due to me recovering from my injuries, but it will contain as much information as I can recall. I landed with a squad of purge troopers and stormtroopers, along with my asset Dollshade Dollshade . The troopers cut a path for myself and Dollshade, through a horde of Sith zombies that were swarming our forces. Regardless of their overwhelming numbers, we managed to get to the Citadel. I was able to hack their defenses to open up the door to let myself and Dollshade through.

No sooner than we stepped through, that the doors behind us slammed shut. Moments later, I heard the fear and screams of my troopers on the other side of the door. Quickly moving into position, Dollshade and I prepared ourselves. Only for a large Sith Lord to break the wall, corruping, warping the environment as he walked. Despite our best efforts, we did not lay a dent on him. We retreated, barely escaping with our lives. We didn't even get close to reaching the Sith data we were after.

Recommendations

The Sith Order knew about this invasion and prepared accordingly. I have already tasked my agents to begin long interrogations of all Imperial branches, to ensure that there was no leak on our end. I'll release the reports as they come.

Sabotage and assassinations I recommend heavily. We had intel on the Sith but we did not take advantage of trying to soften up those targets. Get rid of key personnel or hit critical infrastructure. Going forward, we should explore those options.

I recommend we immediately seek out ways to neutralize the Force. A technological device we can use to make fighting Sith easier. I am hesistant to recommend using more Knights, for I feel those should be used sparingly. Another option I suggest is looking into and studying Force Dead species, to see what we can learn from them.

My closing thoughts are this. The Sith Order can afford to wage attrional warfare. We can not. I recommend the next Sith target we decide to strike, we ensure that we have every advantage to avoid sufferring heavy losses.

I will be recovering on Mintooine until I am able to return to my duties.

Battle of Brosi
After Action Report, Tactical Overview and Assesment
Imperial Assets and Highly Confidential Associates
"The Dealmaker"

This report will detail the observations made through tasks executed by the Imperial Asset only to be known as "The Dealmaker" to those who do not have the clearance to access this Imperial Asset's files and information.

Preliminary overview of the situation:
Having been part of the initial invasion force within the sector, at first glance it was already clear that we did not have the expected advantage as we were lead to believe in the immediate meetings and briefings prior to the military operation. upon reaching the surface, it was quite clear that the Empire lacked the necessary assets on the ground to properly deal with the unexpected onslaught which came our way in the form of hordes of the undead, severely hampering any imperial advance on the ground. A severe lack of communication between our naval and army divisions had also caused for some restraints which eventually slowed down the advance of Augustus Von Strauss Augustus Von Strauss who was pinned down for the most part in this campaign.

There was also a severe lack of operational acquity of the situation which stood at the core of these hordes of undead. While a personal engagement with the key figures behind the defense of the Sith presence was being conducted by myself and my guard droids, the opposition was too great and there was no support to be expected from any of our military assets.

Engagement overview:
Upon engagement of the Sith Presence, notable figures have been listed below as present and at the head of the defense of Brosi:

These four individuals comprised the resisting key force, with Darth Caedes being believed to be behind the hordes of undead which have cost the empress a large number of her men and important material. Note that the presence of at least three of the highest ranking members of the Sith Empire during this campaign without any prior information has severely hampered the progress of yours truly, who could not wholly prevent their actions due to the lack of proper support and backing from either regulars of the Imperial Confederation or fast deployable mercenaries or elite units provided by the Imperial Confederation Proper.

Secondary engagement overview
As part of my personal assignment, I have set a number of my guard droids upon the task of searching and eliminating opposing force sensitives and in doing so have discovered another handful of Sith apprentices and/or acolytes being present at the battle and aiming for a location near the Delta-2 processing plant. Again, a lack of military and naval collaboration seemed to have hampered any progress, as the undead managed to break through the flanks and prohibited any further movement of my droids.

Information gathering
One of my personal associates was sent to recover details on the Sith presence and their military assets within the region, while we have indeed found and sent through a few chunks of intel, we have yet to unravel the full worth of this information and have sent a copy of the data to be deciphered by the ISB.

Possible solutions and grievances in regards to the Brosi Campaign

Suggested solutions would be the acquirement and training of recon and specialized squadrons and units capable of airdrops and strategic localized combat or allowing Section C to act with Impunity in situations like this when they'd present themselves. Contact the N&Z Umbrella Corporation for the purchase of ZMDIII-C1 "Arbalesk" Enforcer Droid and ZMDIII-ACD "Mars" Assault Combat Droid to facilitate a temporary force which can operate as strategic assets in cases like this.

Second, I would like to point out that military and naval command needs to be overhauled and synced up better to encourage and instill a better synergy and communication, allowing for more mobile squadrons and units to effectively plug hole or break open cracks where and when needed. A cohesive strategy and deeper planning in regards to information, military and naval standardization needs to be considered to add more flexibility and greater adaptability when facing irregular situations.

BATTLE OF BROSI
AFTER ACTION REPORT
COMMANDER
SALTARE DOTHON - INFERNO SQUAD

ANALYSIS OF INFERNO SQUADS ACTIONS

Inferno Squad was tasked with taking over industrial buildings to further the Empire's manufacturing and war resources. During this process, heavy ground engagements commenced. Inferno Squad utilized cloaked heavy infantry fighting vehicles to flank the main ground engagement and infiltrate the industrial sector.

While en route, the Sith activated a hidden shield generator that encapsulated the entire battlefield and cut off Imperial Forces from reinforcements in lower orbit. Due to this, I decided to change our objective from the industrial buildings to taking out the shield generator and providing relief to our forces on the ground.

Inferno Squad was waylaid at this point by a Sith transport, which had the extreme luck to crash into our Rancor transports and take my personal Rancor out of commission. Several Inferno Squad members in my personal transport stayed and engaged Sith troopers from the DeathDrop Special Forces Unit. I engaged and heavily wounded their leader, but the combat with the Sith Special Forces took me out of the wider conflict.

Beth-

Saltare's hand slowly lifted off the keyboard. Typing Beth's name had rekindled his shame, knowing he had left her to die at the Shield Generator. His mind bounced back as Imperial HAAT gunships landed around him. At the same time, he engaged the DeathDrop troopers while being ordered to board the HAAT as most TIC forces escaped from the world. Saltare took a breath, hands reaching for the keyboard again-

-and the rest of Inferno Squad continued toward the Shield Generator. It is unknown what occurred at this junction, as reports from Inferno Squad that were inside the Shield Generator were not recoverable. However, it can be surmised that Beth and the rest of Inferno were successful as the shield generator was taken offline, and Imperial reinforcements could descend from lower orbit to assist TIC forces on the ground.

TACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS

While Inferno's goal on the ground was a success, members of my unit were separated during the engagement. I believe I should have ordered Beth to stay and overwhelm the DeathDrop troopers, and then, as a whole unit, return to the Shield Generator. This would have limited casualties within my unit and kept us whole.

A further point is that I was engaged in single combat against a Sith leader who kept me out of the wider strategic battlefield. In future combat operations, I will use all tactical and strategic options available to keep Inferno on our target mission and not engage in frivolous small-unit battles with no strategic value.

While the Rancors did their job for the ground transport, they were slower on the field than air transport. In future combat operations, Inferno will need to have the option to be equipped with Cloaked Air Vehicles that could potentially have the ability to carry Rancor or similar vehicles. This would allow us to mitigate unnecessary ground engagements and put my unit in the needed place with as little interference as possible.

I will attach further reports to this main report as debriefs with Inferno are ongoing.

END OF PRELIMINARY REPORT.

:: REPORT ::

TACTICAL ANALYSIS

7th Fleet entered the Brosi system near the planet proper. After entering, 7th Fleet coordinated with Squesha Squesha , Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen , Lord Rasnuhl Lord Rasnuhl , and Vorin Zonill ( Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane ).

My fleet immediately deployed in a standard wedge formation. Venator Star Destroyers comprised the middle of the formation, with a picket line of Caelox Frigates in front, and Loki Corvettes bringing up the flanks as quick attack craft.

Initial contact with the Sith wasn't made until the engagement on the ground was well underway. When we did engage the Sith, they refused upfront confrontation and hid within the asteroid field, or the far fringes of the system, for the entirety of the engagement.

A single ship rose from the asteroid field and began to engage our forces, but any counter-attack was deemed ineffective as the Force was used to play tricks on our pilots. Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen later engaged this ship for the duration of the fleet combat.

The Sith used the Force extensively at stand-off ranges while they engaged us. They hid within the asteroid field or some type of Force Shroud while using heavier-hitting long-range weaponry to destroy our ships.

While seeing the Sith wanted to hide and use range, the other TIC forces and I began to close the distance. We had the overwhelming starfighter advantage, which could have been used to devastating effect in the close confines of the asteroid field. However, the Sith again used the Force to shield their ships from our sensors and infect the minds of our Imperial pilots and staff to cause confusion.

This led to our forces' mass drawback and retreat as we could not combat this.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS
Due to the overwhelming amount of Force powers used within this engagement, it is my strategic recommendation that:

  • Widespread heavy indoctrination is used within Imperial Fleet Staff to combat against Force hallucinations and powers. [This would take countless months/years and be extremely expensive and time prohibitive, especially while we are still actively at war.]
OR:
  • A proprietary mass-produced technology is developed to combat Force Wielding Foes within the confines of an extensive Fleet engagement. Either ship-wide or fleet-wide technology, or something that can be used at an individual level. [This would be extremely expensive, however with the technology already present within the galaxy, something could be whipped up rather quickly, weeks or months that could have drastic effects on our foes.]

Continuing with future recommendations, I believe the skill displayed at the tactical level was more than adequate for the engagement. We had more ships overall, which could have been used to overwhelm the enemy in close combat. Our starfighters were also more numerous and just as advanced as our enemies, which would have given us a significant advantage, given time.

Fleet tactics at the individual Admiral/Captain level were also sufficient. The Ackbar slash, coordinated hyperspace jumps to flank the enemy, and many other tactics were used, which, again, would have left the enemy reeling from attacks on their flanks. Again, however, the Force was an obstacle not planned for in depth, and we suffered the consequences.

So in conclusion, TIC forces need the technology to combat Force opponents and the necessary equipment to find and engage cloaked forces arrayed against us. I will confer with my fellow Admirals to find fleet engagement strategies, tactics, and technology for future engagements.

MAHPOREEM MINISTRY OF INTERGALACTIC WARFARE
SUBJECT: BATTLE OF BROSI
AFTER ACTION REPORT

The battle of Brosi can be called nothing short of a full blown rout of Imperial Confederation forces. Despite the acquisition of shipbuilding yards on Minntoonie and the sizable gathering of a large naval fleet, the Confederation was unable to successfully penetrate Sith defenses on Brosi, leaving ground units cut off from naval support.

Said lack of support and breakdown of communications between ground and naval forces played a key role in the defeat of the Confederation. With changing ground conditions, the appropriate tactical response would have been for all ground units to engage Brosi's planetary shield generators until their total destruction, either creating a hole large enough for Imperial ships to move or fire through or knocking out the planetary shield entirely.

Unfortunately, the use rigid objective markers caused immense confusion for Imperial ground forces, with men like Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane committing to their original objective of assaulting the planet's Mega-Tower while Imperial Air Support instead sought out to engage the shield generators. This breakdown in communication ensured that key elements of the Imperial Army were either out of position or committed to the wrong objectives, delaying the destruction of the shield generators until it was too late.

The small arms employed by Imperial ground forces also proved rather ineffective against the various Sithspawn summoned to defend the planet. Captain Tane is reported as saying that some of the creatures he encountered required "an inordinate amount of laser bolts to take down, and even then some of them continued fighting on despite what appeared to be catastrophic damage". It has become clear that the creatures summoned by the Sith should not be treated in the same manner as forces from other opposing factions. A comprehensive review of small arms employed by the Confederation should be enacted immediately, with Mahporeem Ministry of Intergalactic Warfare recommendations to be listed at the end of this review. Recommendations for the destruction of the so called "lizard giant" will be detailed in a later, separate report.

Still, Sith technological innovations cannot be ruled out entirely for the defeat for the Confederation, as Imperial Air assets have recounted tales of enemy fighter craft employing some sort of "shield draining" technology. These fighter craft were seen producing electrical fields around their hulls, which drained friendly fighter craft of their energy shields if they strayed too close. The study and reproduction of this technology is something that the Confederation may wish to invest in for the future.

Perhaps, however, the biggest challenge facing ground forces on Brosi was the Sith usage of force enhanced powers on a planetary scale. Fleet Admiral Vorin Zonill has reported instances of friendly naval assets being apparently "mind controlled" by Sith forces, and the creation of massive planetary force storms. The Admiral has been quoted saying that "those force storms were easily the largest storms I've ever seen in my lifetime. If our ships had been caught up in even a fraction of the storm, we would have been torn to shreds". The force storms ultimately forced Admiral Zonill's naval fleet to retreat, lest they be caught up and fully destroyed.

The possibility of force related powers playing a role in the planetary infection cannot be ignored either, with Captain Tane's firsthand account of the creature's he fought bearing no similarities to the "zombies" mentioned in the Confederation's pre-briefing. Captain Tane did manage to salvage some medical supplies from the Mega-Tower, including what he described as "some sort of box full of viruses". Said box has been shipped off to The Lord of Hunger The Lord of Hunger for immediate analysis, along with blood samples of Captain Tane and the men who injected themselves with the mysterious serum encountered in the Mega-Tower. According to Captain Tane's reports, a Sith scientist stationed in the tower was apparently successful in creating a cure of the planetary infection, as was demonstrated on a live target that had been previously infected by the disease. Should this scientist be encountered again, their capture is rated as a number one priority.

In light of these revelations, the Mahporeem Ministry of Intergalactic Warfare has decided to issue the following recommendations for future campaigns against the Sith:
  1. The revitalization of Imperial intelligence and data gathering operations before the use of naval assets.
  2. The allocation of greater autonomy for Imperial Ground Units, with the revocation of penalties associated with disobeying certain orders.
  3. Investment into maintaining and upgrading Imperial communication equipment.
  4. The issuance of unconventional small arms in greater quantities, such as flamethrowers, sonic weapons and acid rifles.
  5. The creation of specialized war machines that are capable of utilizing said unconventional weaponry within their designs.
  6. The construction of anti-force technology on both a small and large scale.
  7. An extensive propaganda campaign aimed against the Sith, highlighting the horrendous nature of the Sith’s biological and alchemical creations. Fear and paranoia of the Sith Order should be stoked toward allies and enemies at all available opportunities.
This list is neither extensive nor exhaustive, and should only serve as the basis of analysis for continuing campaigning against the Sith. Nonetheless, we believe that this list of seven recommendations will serve as a strong basis for the Confederations eventual victory over the Sith Order.

Thus concludes the after action report. All recommendations should be enacted upon as soon as possible, as the Mahporeem Ministry of Intergalactic Warfare continues to work hand in hand with its Confederation allies.

OPERATION: INVASION OF BROSI
SUBJECT: AFTER-ACTION REPORT
FILED BY: COMMANDANT AUGUSTUS VON STRAUSS, 144TH STRIKE LEGION "AMETHYST BLADES"

xTZHP11.png

PRE-LANDING ACTIONS
We deployed from the carrier by way of Stork and HAAT/i gunships, our initial orders being to secure and hold the Vantar-7 Hfredium refinery until relief by a dedicated Bulwark Legion. Inoculation protocols against the Candorian Blight were carried out en route, medics administering doses across the ranks before atmospheric entry. I made it clear that no exceptions were to be made, given that even the hermetic seals of our armor could not be trusted in prolonged engagement.

During descent, sensors picked up an unregistered power surge twenty kilometers east of the refinery. Given its unknown nature, I diverted my own bird and two others to investigate, leaving Lt. Colonel Horrigan in command of the primary force.

CONTACT
IMPERIAL FORCE PRESENT:
  • 2X STORMTROOPER FIRETEAMS (50 troopers each)
  • 1X INFANTRY EXO-SKELETON FIRETEAM (51 troopers)
    • INCL. COMMANDANT
  • 3X GUNSHIPS
    • 2-1
    • 2-2
    • 2-3
We disembarked, formed a defensive perimeter, and brought an E-Web emplacement online. At this point, contact reports began to flood in: a mass of hostile signatures approaching fast. I ordered Gunships 2-2 and 2-3 to circle around and prepare strafing lanes, while I ordered Gunship 2-1 to stay close behind to provide close-air support.

Through optics, I observed what can only be described as an army of the reanimated dead. During the conflict, I was unaware of the term describing the abominations; ISS documents suspect they were Jen'ari. Initially, there were hundreds, then the estimate climbed closer towards a thousand or more. Their movements were fast, but erratic; it could best be described as a frenzied tide rushing directly toward our position. I quickly ordered firing arcs and CryoBan grenades deployed to slow their charge. Within seconds, the field was lit with blaster fire and the maser cannon support from Gunship 2-1. The effect was immediate and devastating, but insufficient against their sheer numbers.

The situation escalated when a hostile combatant, a Sith enforcer wielding a sword, appeared from the sky and brought down Gunship 2-1 in a direct strike using the Force (lightning). It wreckage crashed a few dozen meters away from our perimeter, taking the crew with it. Almost immediately afterward, the horde shifted in behavior. What had been a mindless rush became coordinated and deliberate. Scanning the field, I identified a tall, hooded figure at the rear of the mass; it seemed to be directing their movements. Again, during the conflict, I was unaware of the term at the time, but I believe this, through reading ISS files, to be a Jen'koshū (a Dreadlord).

Recognizing the threat, I directed the E-Web team to pour fire into the Dreadlord's position while ordering the infantry to fall back toward a collapsed structure at our rear, in hopes of using it as a makeshift strongpoint. Exo-troopers were placed on the outer line to absorb attrition, allowing standard troopers in lighter carapace to withdraw with minimal exposure. I delegated field command of the infantry to the captain of the Exo-skeleton fireteam, while I alone advanced toward the downed gunship in pursuit of the hostile combatant. Concurrently, I coordinated Gunships 2-2 and 2-3 to strafe enemy-occupied buildings and provide direct overwatch to the infantry as they re-formed toward the fallen structure.

By this stage, casualties were beginning to mount up. One gunship destroyed outright, crew presumed KIA. Seven troopers were mauled to death by the horde, and fourteen were non-fatally wounded.

This engagement has demonstrated the Jen'ari threat to be more organized and adaptive than projected. The assumption of Brosi being "lightly defended" was a gross failure of intelligence. Standard stormtrooper carapace was overmatched by the density of the horde, while the heavier armor gifted by Governor Vantai proved significantly more resilient, though only a fraction of my force had access to it. CryoBan munitions were effective in slowing the horde but provided no lasting effect, and our limited number of support weapons left the line vulnerable once a withdrawal order was given, and our initial position had to be left behind.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
  1. INTELLIGENCE: The failure to identify the Jen'ari presence in advance represents a significant intelligence gap. ISS must re-examine its reconnaissance methodology when surveying systems suspected of Sith influence.

  2. REINFORCE DOCTRINE: The 144th Strike Legion, being under the command of a Commandant, means that it is a Demi-Legion or Half-Legion. These numbers proved insignificant during the entire operation. Lt. Col. Horrigan's main force managed to capture the refinery, but at the cost of a whole company's worth of troopers. As such, in the future, Strike Legions, like the 144th, should be reinforced to full legion strength along with heavy support assets.

  3. ARMOR UPGRADE: Stormtroopers in standard carapace were overmatched by sheer density of contact. Heavier suits (such as those gifted by Governor Vantai) offered superior survivability and should be more readily available in future conflicts.

  4. AREA-DENIAL ASENAL EXPANSION: CryoBan proved temporarily effective, but larger-scale weapons, such as flamers, cryogenic projectors, and chemical suppressants, are needed to break massed enemy momentum. While this style of doctrine may only be useful against the hordes of Jen'ari, the amount of these types of weapons in our arsenal is subpar and needs immediate attention.
