The Blade of All
“Reveal yourself, Doomed One!” The humanoid ordered as he stepped into the artificial light of the alley. He was Ka’hren, like ninety-nine percent of the sentient population on V’shar. He had grey skin, humongous teeth, sunken eyes, and a crested forehead. He was a mean looking member of a mean looking species. At least that was what Ran thought when she took in his visage from her hiding place in the shadows.
“I know you’re here. Don’t think you’ll evade me for much longer!” He spat. The blaster in his long and furry arms was held high. Adrenaline heightened his awareness but frustration would dull his reaction time. Ran could feel his battling emotions imprinting on the force, and still she did not act. She would not risk giving herself away just yet, not when her objective was so close. She’d stick to the shadows at least until she reached Kita, the Ka’hren mother who’d taken the biggest risk of her life to summon the Jedi to take in her force-sensitive son.
The summons Ran had received wasn’t for her, or rather it wasn’t for any Jedi in particular, but it was for a Jedi. Ran had just been the closest to V’shar at the time, or so she thought. The summons she had received sounded desperate, and upon some research Ran could understand why. The Ka’hren were a highly religious people. They were both isolationists and religious supremacists. To them, Kita’s decision to summon the Jedi at all, to acknowledge the force, would be considered a blasphemous crime to her people, and still she did it. She took a risk for whatever reason struck her and that inspired Ran. Inspired Ran to reach this point, a stone’s throw away from where Kita would be waiting with her baby boy. It wouldn’t take long for Ran to reach them; she just had to deal with the situation before her first.
“I grow weary of this game! Reveal yourself, whatever you are, and I may let you live!” The blaster wielding Ka’hren cried in frustration as he stood just a few short meters from Ran’s hiding place in the alley behind a half-ruined wall. Ran didn’t flinch at his threats or proximity. She relaxed with the force and readied herself to use it to cause a ruckus behind her pursuer, but before she could his search was interrupted by another.
“High Priest Xiv! I’m sorry to interrupt your search, but we have just found evidence of a second interloper. You must come and see for yourself.” The meek sounding Ka’hren grabbed the attention of Ran’s pursuer, the High Priest Xiv. She used that distraction to make a silent exit. By the time the High Priest finally checked behind the ruined wall it would’ve been too late. Ran was already gone.
As Ran stuck to the shadows of the interlocking alleys, she thought of the second interloper. She wondered if she was the first, who might the second be. If she could help them, or assist them in any way, she would, but first she traveled onward to Kita and her boy.
