Buster, stay. Buster was all too happy right now, saying “Hiiii” to and getting headscratches from the new Padawan. One of Mother’s aids was here, so he would not be alone when they left, in fact there she was giving Jax Thio Jax Thio a quick hug before everything…

”Countdown to Portal Opening in 10… 9…”

Alright, here we go! Grabbing his (the old Gabriel’s) rifle and slinging it, he pulled his mask on and went into weapon discipline before walking through the portal.

A strange experience, less like travelling through hyperspace (like he imagined it would be), and more really just walking through a doorway.

Through the portal was darkness, and so he cracked a glowstick. The ambient neon green light brought illumination to the immediate area, so he tossed it outward, cracked another and tossed it, another, and another. That was all he had. There were others cracked in the distance. Clearly Omega Squad setting their path outside.

[We’re through the portal. Where are you?]

[We’re about a klik out from the temple ruins. One second… sorry… was avoiding a patrol.]

[Are we good?]

[We’ll leave markers. If they see a ration bar that is a perimeter.]

[Acknowledged.] Just checked with Omega Squad. Those of you heading outside to test those trackers are good. Follow the other glowsticks outside, and if you see a ration bar, that is as far as you can be without running into Black Sun. We can get you out there if you want? It’s right down that hall.

Pulling his rifle up into gunsight, and slowly made way for those other cracked glowsticks, turning on the underbarrel flashlight and began to move. BRAD rolled through the portal happily as Buster could be seen sitting patiently… for about a millisecond before Chrysa’s aid took his leash and gave him more attention than he could handle.

The ruins of the Temple were indeed ”ruins” char and age were the ruling adjectives of the area. The place showing that even Caltin’s design could not withstand the effects of the bombarding assault of the Mandalorian guns. It was disheartening at first to think about, especially for Connel who was not here when this happened, his father keeping him away, but this was just one level, one of the levels that would have been most affected by the attack.

Was this what they would see throughout? Was this the only level they would find like this?

Only time will tell.

Ace shifted his weight, his eyes flicked across the chamber as more people filtered in. Valery's calm nod, Jax's easy grin, Gavin's drawl, even the Padawan's bright-eyed enthusiasm. They were all different flavors of confidence, all seasoned in their own way. For a moment, he felt the strange weight of standing in the middle of it: Jedi Masters, soldiers, wanderers… and him. Not a bad crowd to walk into the dark with.

When the portal began its countdown, his gaze lingered on the spiraling light. He'd seen hyperspace but this… this was different. The Force hummed behind it, steady and strange. He couldn't decide if it unsettled him or felt natural. Maybe both.

Beside him, Tic jittered, photoreceptor narrowing at the rippling surface. The little droid let out a nervous string of chirps and leaned closer against his neck. Ace smirked faintly, lifting a hand to steady him with a light pat on his flat casing.

"Relax, Tic. We'll go together. Just another door."

Connel's rifle came up and the team began to move. Without hesitation, Ace adjusted his belt, checked the weight of his lightsaber at his hip, and fell in step after the older man. Glowsticks cracked ahead, pale green light spilling into the ruin. With Tic still perched on his shoulder, Ace walked forward.

Stepping through the portal wasn't what he expected. No rushing tunnel of light like hyperspace, no lurch in his stomach like a jump through atmosphere. One breath he was in the chamber at Kattada, the next the air was colder, damper, thick with rot and old wood. It felt less like travel and more like being absorbed, as if the Force itself had drawn them through and set them down where it wanted them.

Tic shivered against his shoulder, photoreceptor darting in every direction, beeping uneasily at the dark pressing in around the faint glowsticks. Ace's hand rose briefly, tapping the flat top of the droid's head.

"Told you. Just another door." he muttered.

It was dark, and he resisted the urge to use his lightsaber as a light source. It was hard to deny the weight of the place, the Force clung to it all. When Ace reached for it, he felt the contrast: above, the ruin rang hollow, lifeless, like a corpse. But deeper down, something endured. The roots and the bones of the temple still pulsed faintly, like a heart that refused to die.

Ace exhaled slowly, shoulders straightening "This place has seen hell." he muttered under his breath, voice low. Then he glanced over to Connel "But it ain't gone."

Valery's eyes swept over the team as the portal pulsed brighter with its countdown. Connel was already moving with his rifle, Acier steady at his side, Jax and Gavin settling in after their late arrivals, and the Padawan still catching the pup's attention until the moment came to focus.

This was quite the team already.

She adjusted the strap of her pack, clipped it a little tighter at her shoulder, and followed after Connel through the portal. The shift of air on the other side was sharp and cold, the glowsticks spilling pale green across walls scarred by fire and time. Her gaze lingered briefly on the wreckage, the weight of what had been lost pressing on her before she pulled herself back to the task.

Stepping closer to Connel, she spoke, "Sticking together makes sense until we understand more, but when the time comes, splitting into smaller teams may be better. If we do, younger Jedi should pair with those more seasoned." She turned her eyes to Fa-Olan, her expression softening just a little.

"Would you like to stick with me?"
