This is how I show my love - Underground on Nirauan

It was time to get to work. Coren Starchaser had put a mass message out to the members of the Underground, working on contacting a variety of the cells. The world of Nirauan, once a very important stronghold, was sitting in an empty space between the Mandalorian Clans (best case scenario), the One Sith, and with the Primeval not too far away. Nirauan held the tactical significance in that it would be an excellent staging ground for whoever gained control to move coreward, but if the One Sith were to claim it? It’d be a great point to move Underground teams into the battle. The plan was really simple, the Underground pilots would enter the system, infiltrate the shipyards and liberate data on the former Hand of Thrawn, Spaarti Cloning Technology and link up with resistance forces from the Ascendency.

With the One Sith not far from the world, it would be a quick exercise to move the Underground into a position to strike the nearby world of Adumar in an attempt to start pushing the One Sith back towards the core. Someone needed to begin the push against these beings, all empires fell, it only needed the single push. That was something Coren Starchaser understood very well, being a former Imperial officer himself.

Bringing out the new vessel of his, the ShortFin, the non-denomination Force master pulled into real space and engaged the stealth systems. Not a cloaking vessel, the ShortFin worked on a variety of seemingly archaic tactics to mask her presence. Of course, she was wearing the Techno Union tags Pride of Rishi. The mission was really simple, and he was hoping that timing would be perfect. He knew that the Underground had access to some of the best pilots, and once contact with the surface was established, by the Underground heroes, they’d bring in freighters to drop off the cell that would build up resistance on Nirauan.

Aside from the technology that was buried in the ruins on this world, which may or may not help the Underground right away, or at least fetch a decent credit return, linking with any members of the Chiss who may be looking to get back at the Sith for taking the world would be very useful. On top of that, Starchaser had heard there was a Chiss Officer who was looking to defect from the One Sith, and the extraction of this officer was part of the mission’s primary function, the rest? That was to cause a bit of chaos and see what the Underground were capable of.

“Lexi, bring us in. Contact Underground vessels as they enter the system under encrypted channels, and let them know where we’re landing. We’ll be going forward on foot, most likely.” He hated that plan, but it was what it was.

OOC: Simple exercise.
We're arriving on Nirauan.

Three objectives:
A) Going to raid tech from the ruins of any Hand of Thrawn facilities, working to find any kind of technology that we can use to be used to develop some form of technology for starships/weaponry to be used to create a factory submission
B ) Set up an Underground Resistance cell to be developed into an NPC submission
C) Assisting an NPC Chiss Officer with assisting their people establish a colony on the world in exchange for their team's assistance in the upcoming engagements.

Anyone is welcome to be aboard the ShortFin, but bringing in your own vessel or getting to the world by other means is also a great idea.

Most importantly, have fun.

Another holler, another dollar.

This time it was the Underground hollerin' for some help with their newest mission, one particularly based around the ancient Hand of Thrawn faction and the tales, stories, and legends revolving around it. Lok and his crew had been sent the mission profile a week prior to get all of their equipment together and make preparations for something that seemed like combat and action was bound to come about.

"Commander Jorunn, we're about to enter realspace. Orders?"

The scratched the scruff on his chin. "Get the Aces to their ships and ready 'em for takeoff. We're not gonna be doing much 'sides flyin' some close air support. Might land so ready some commandos for ground assault." The Jedi glanced about the bridge, eyes landing on the communications officer. "Lieutenant, let the Underground know we're here."

And with that, the Defiance lurched out of hyperspace and began waddling on over to Nirauan.

Ezra had inadequate information on the Underground to say the least, but through contact with Lady Fantana and by proxy, Lady Latha of House Sabosen, he had caught wind of a mission to take one, Commander Hath (Cuth'hath'oghac) a high-ranking Chiss military officer to the planet of Nirauan to establish a resistance group. It wasn’t unusual that the Chiss and the Galactic Empire continued to be strange bedfellows. With an impressive military industrial complex, and love of discipline and order in most of their cultural elements, the Chiss race had much in common with the Imperials.

After Ezra programmed the autopilot on The Anubis, he could now check on his passengers, Lady Latha and Commander Hath. The Imperial Agent was merely the transportation to Nirauan. The Aristocra of House Sabosen, would then accompany the officer to his new location. Ezra would have done it himself, but Commander Hath made it quite clear, he needed a distinctly blue-skinned envoy to accompany him. Lady Latha was also easy on the eyes, but he tried to be charitable towards the fellow military man. Chiss were notoriously xenophobic so perhaps the Commander just felt more comfortable with one of his kind around. Or perhaps Lady Latha played more of a role than she let on.

The Lady admittedly had not traveled much, so she was appeared distracted by the sleek Corvette and the view screen which displayed Nirauan, a terrestrial green and blue planet, looming ahead.

“You’ve really been quite a friend to us over the last few weeks, Ezra,” commented Lady Latha, with a gracious smile. The Commander sat stone-faced. Ezra would describe neither beings as “warm," but at least the female Aristrocra had impeccable manners and a pleasant demeanor.

He merely nodded in acknowledgement.

Yes, the Intelligence Officer was a friend, but only when it suited him. And the information he stood to glean from this trip would make him rather chummy with, not only the inner political circle of the Chiss, but also the Underground, which was one of the reasons he took the assignment.

Location: Entering the System

Vassara had heard the call. The Underground was on the move, and then so was she. It had been a while since the Expeditionary fleet amd her run ins with the Republic. Doubtless she still had bounties on her head, but that was not an issue. They could get in line, seventeen different organizations had bounties out on her, from local crime lords to various Sith.

"Silas open up a channel on the backside."

An encrypted line came to life, linking in with the comms of the Underground. So her old transponder codes still worked? She'd have to talk to them about that. Security was important, and rotating codes was a part of that.

"Captain Raxis of the Gypsy Caravan reporting in. I have six Mercenary commandos, two medics and crate full of supplies. Heading planetside to execute second objective, how copy?"

The Mercenaries in the cargo bay stirred restlessly. Arrayed in a mishmosh of armor, with various weapons jingling across their steel clad frames they were eager and willing to get down there.

"Any news Cap'n?" One of them asked, popping his head inside the L-19s cokcpit.

"Not yet, hang tight, lock and load, we're ten minutes out from the atmosphere."

"Alright I'll get em rounded up."

Vassars leaned back in her seat, piercing blue eyes looking over the consoles and checking readings. Everyhting was in order, and now they waited.

"You think these guys are worth the creds?" Silas asked.

"Damn well better be. My contacts told me they were the best, so we will see."

The Corellian Rose (retired)
Eliza looked over her shoulder at the ruggedly handsome extra pair of hands she and Alriccchrahl, her Wookiee co-pilot, had aboard with them on this mission for the Underground. [member="Kad Tor"] had become a semi-regular face upon the Corellian Dawn ever since he made a certain impression upon the petite smuggler during a stop over on Mandalore a few months back. The goran and the spirited Corellisi had hooked up and since then been seeing each other when their schedules allowed. Thus why the sandy brown-haired Mando'ad was with them on this trip killing two birds with one stone so to speak; not only to keep her company, but Kad was a Force-sensitive verd too, and could come in handy if they met up with any Sith while helping to set up a resistance cell on Nirauan.

"Better strap yourself in there, cyar'ika. We're just about to drop out of hyperspace. Never know how we'll be received," the chocolate-eyed brunette said with a wink, then turned back to look forward at the readouts across the flight console in front of her. The Captain made a quick announcement over the ship's intercom system to do the same for the Dawn's precious cargo in the back.

"Alright, Rahly… Let's do this," Eliza nodded, then reached for the hyperdrive lever and pushed it upward reverting the YT-1930 Light Freighter into realspace on the dark side of the Wild Space planet. A loud roar was the brandy brown-furred Wookiee's response.

This was the first time Steele was using the new IFF system with interchangeable transponders; one of the many perks of being a member of the Underground. Hopefully it would work. At the moment, they were the Prancing Pony.

Once in orbit, Eliza toggled over to the encrypted frequency the Underground was using for this mission and called in. "This is the Prancing Pony inbound with party favors. Where do you want us?"

In the cargo hold, there were crates with weapons (one's they had offloaded from another source earlier) and some of Kad's ordinance made to his specifications. He wasn't nicknamed Dr. Boom for nothing.

OCC: There's room for others to catch a ride, if they want. :)

Kad liked to make things go boom, and when Eliza asked for help on a run to set up as resistance cell, or take weapons, Kad worked up some of his modified thermal detonators. They had a new find meaning as the brunette he was with enjoyed the explosions so much, they had their own fireworks after, and continued to have them when they could. The long distance part of the relationship was the pits, but the two always seemed to pick up where they left off every time they reunited.

He strapped in as instructed. The trip had been a long one from Manda'yaim, but the time had been put to good use. Poor Rhal had to put up with them, but at least he finally got the repairs done he'd been promising since Kad first met the Wookiee. Kad returned the wink to Eliza and grinned.

"Hopefully we're greeted with firepower. Always a welcome sight for any verd, ner Liz'ika."

Yeah, the affectionate was used frequently between them. You'd think they were a deeply devoted couple, but in truth, they were both enjoying the slow and patient journey they were taking. Both had been hurt in past relationships, heartbreak abs loss, and neither wanted to rush into that again. Kad was convinced that wasn't going to happen with Eliza though, and if it did, he'd be holding her in his arms as any true verd would as it would be in battle together.

"Let's make the drop and teach this rookies P is for Plenty."

Time to get to work. The ShortFin a.k.a. Pride of Rishi was entering the system. Working with the Underground had its perks, but it also had its drawbacks. They didn’t nearly have the funding that he wished for, but again, this was a man who worked for an Imperial grand admiral-warlord for a spell, there weren’t many more well-funded individuals then those. On the flip side, the Underground excelled at disappearing and going to ground so much better than say the Republic military, or even the Silver Sanctum Coalition’s military. Coren was here to get things moving and he knew that the rest of the teams were going to show up.

With ShortFin/Pride of Rishi’s stealth systems going full bore, he was able to get through the initial systems on the planet without any concern. Additionally, no war was really going on here, the Sith hadn’t given it attention, and it was taking in Chiss who were not keen on the Ascendancy’s move to work with the people who were in bed with the Vong.

Maybe that was the main reason Coren despised the Sith? Part of it. Plus the Sith, or at least a Sith in the past tried to kill him, not to mention Sage Bane just existing. That was enough for Coren to start a war and solo-quest Coruscant. Lightsaber or no lightsaber. But for this mission? He was just here, and leading the team. He wanted to drop supplies off and set up some NPC resistance cells, link up with what Chiss would be here and make sure the Underground folk were well trained and ready for the coming months. He was going to be bringing what volunteers he could into the heart of the storm.

Burn the fire that was the Sith out of the galaxy.

Entering atmosphere, he received word from the Defiance and gave them the affirmative and transmitted the array of LZs and rendezvous points. Not all would be used, but he was fairly confident that someone in the Underground knew where they were going. Be good to have the air support if this got hairy. Then the next line came in. “We read you, Raxis, Starchaser is heading down planet side. Have a few more for the cell.” This was where he was going to be focusing at first, then meeting with the Chiss. He had a few others on the way for the little mission, just hope that they had enough of a head start on the Sith.

Unlike the Rebel Alliance, the Underground weren’t going to be sabotaging civilian infrastructure, or damned near anything. They were so much more… sophisticated than that. “We read you, Pony, transmitting a few landing sites and our rendezvous points. Natives and away teams.” Basically, who was going to be sticking to set up and run the resistance on this world and who was going to be collecting the data they could and bugging out.

The ShortFin came in for a landing and Coren nodded as he started shutting down the ship. He was leaving Lexi and Mclean, one of the pilots from the Dawn Treader on the ship. They’d be ready to launch the ship should it come to that. Lightsaber on his hip, and Power Nine strapped to his thigh, Coren was stepping out, assuming he was the first to arrive at the site. He had some time and was pulling a camouflage patterned tarp over his ship. No one was going to be seeing his pride and joy.

He should submit an adaptive tarp for the factory, but one that was just a boring camo print would be fine for fly overs, and he was parked far enough away from society.

It was true. The only starship Lady Latha had traveled upon was her own Nssis-class Clawcraft or small transport shuttles to and from locations on Csilla. But these vessels were nothing like Agent Klev’s Scarab-Class Corvette. It was a bold ship for a bold new journey to Nirauan.

Latha did not plan on making her home on the new Chiss colony that was being set up with help from the Underground. Commander Cuth'hath'oghac would provide the leadership and obtain the resources. The Aristocra of House Sabosen would assist with planning and helping set up the infrastructure needed. A Chiss colony away from Csilla was an exciting prospect especially since the Sith occupation of their world made expansion difficult. Oppression caused the Chiss to retreat further into their ingrained xenophobia and insularity, and while some inhabitants of Csilla were fine with this, like Lady Fantana, Latha wanted to see her people reach out to the galaxy more.

“Agent Klev, do you think we’re at risk of an attack?” she asked. So far their mission didn’t seem dangerous at all. She glanced at Commander Cuth'hath'oghac who rose his dark, black eye brows and answered instead, “I should hope not. We’re not doing anything illegal after all. Last I checked, establishing a colony on a neutral planet within peacetime.”

She nodded sagely at the Commander and then looked up at Ezra Klev. “Agent?”

“Even if we were attacked The Anubis is quick, My Lady. But if we had to fight, the Corvette is properly armed.”

Agent Klev then nodded brusquely and turned to go. “Twenty-minutes to landing. There are refreshments in the next cabin over if you are so inclined.”

"Alright, Coordinates locked in!"

Vassaras seasoned eyes flitted back and forth over the pannels, getting a general readout of their situation. The first stop off was a small little compound way far from the beaten path. She opened the dossier with a few swipes of her black gloved fingertips and the holoprojector on the dash sprang to life.

The compound was occupied, looked like some kind of scouting party for local crimelords. Vassara thought she could make out a few
Sith troopers from the aerial recon scans, but there was no quality really. Trouble with being Underground, you sometimes had to rely on secondhand stuff. Which is never fun.

"Ok first stop is occupied by bad guys. Looks like the locals that are interested come from a nearby village not too far away. They want the compound back, in exchange, they'll set up a resistance."

Her voice crackled into the Ear of Grom Hellstrom, the Senior Mercenary in the back of her crate.

"Ok, Infil plan?"

"How bout I hover, and fast rope you down?"

"Too easy, we'll knock em out."

"Ten minutes, get set."

The L-19 glided down over the sparse landscape, roiling with flame and smoke as it smashed through the atmosphere and into the gravitational pull of the planet. The engines whined and purred and Vassaras eyes squinted, trying to block out the harsh light from the nearby suns.

"Alright Silas, You got the helm, I'm getting in the fray."

"Got it." Silas slammed back another shot of stimcaf and flipped the switch, taking control from her console.

Vassara stood and retrieved her Czerka Combat shotgun, sliding into her bantha leather back holster and stepped into the cargo bay, black coat with the red trim flowing behind her slightly.

"Got an extra rope?"

The ranger slipped out of hyperspace and quietly made it's way towards Nirauan. He toggled on the stealth systems and grinned. He always worried that the wiring on the old girl would give out and cause a serious malfunction, but everything worked well enough this time. He had it on good information that Starchaser was in system doing some kind of mission or another, something that required more than just a couple of people. He wasn't excited about the idea of making new enemies, he had more than enough already. But the chance to help his friends in the Underground sounded like a good time.

He hadn't been smuggling or doing any shadowing stuff as of late and honestly he was getting bored. He loved that his shop was doing well and helping Ana was always a good day, but he missed the excitement of getting past people that had no idea you were there. He set the ship as fast as he thought was prudent and he toggled the comms. "Starchaser, I heard you were stirring up trouble again. I hope you don't mind another spoon to help with the proces."

He waited for a reply while approaching the planet. He wasn't worried about getting intercepted or attacked, those things happened to amateurs. He was prepared for anything, he was already plotting another hyperspace jump as he waited. Never knew when it was going to be time to cut and run.

A call of aid would be always be honored by this Mandalorian. It was why he participated this rebel faction in the first place. Of course, he was doing his own way of foiling plans of oppressing factions, and capturing the heads of fugitives and earning credits when returning the target to the contractor. But helping with the Clans and his allies was first which had made the Rally Master put aside Bounty Hunting until the time was right for him to continue his career as Bounty Hunter. Ridding of a parasite was more important than hunting down fugitives unless they aligned themselves with the One Sith or such factions similar to them.

“I hear that you're cookin' some trouble, Starchaser. Hopefully it's spicy enough."

In his Tegaanalor freighter he approached the very planet of Nirauan waiting for a reply from Coren. With or without reply he continued to approach Nirauan. He just hoped he wouldn't get shot out of space. It was probably best to leave the wheel to one who was proficient enough to pilot this vessel, but it was a smart and risky tactic to overcome one of his weaknesses. But he still wished Jorus or a pilot like General Merill would be his pilot.

He had a shopping list of work to be done. It was going to take some time to get clear of it all, but really, who was going to be bothering them? The One Sith were busy fondling their Yuuzhan Vong overlords and taking over the galaxy from any normal beings. Really, it was a perfect time to get some moves put out by the Underground. The trick was, they weren’t crazed rebels lead by some deranged and broken being. No, they were cells of moderately intelligent and didn’t-want-to-get-caught individuals who had a different way to handle the situations thrown at them.

Getting the resistance cell started was going to take a bit of time, he knew that. They had a few experts coming in a variety of ships that would work with the indigs and start to map the world, and set up other cells. If and when the Sith showed up, they’d be here to help attack. Or as a place to launch and free Crina, or hit Adumar.

Right now what he needed was to pull the right attention to the right places and let the rest get to work. He knew that some were bringing in more ships, and if any bogeys came in, they’d probably be grabbing the other ships. Hopefully no one would be giving up locations, but still, the nice thing about the Underground? They were mobile. Didn’t need to set roots down on any system. He knew that a few were here and ready to take the mission by the horns, but he first had to deal with the messages.

First things first, right? “Get those crates on the speeders. We’ve got a few safe houses set up, I want that cargo moved, now.” He said, pacing between his ship and another one of the NPC heavy lifters that landed. He wanted to get the people who were going to blend in moved and hten he’d follow. His swoop was being lowered from the ShortFin and he was heading over to it when the comlink beeped.

“Topol over to Ranger. Get down here. I’ve got some cargo I need found, and moved. Transmitting a few landing locations, see you dirt side.” And what was it with people calling him by his fething name over the radio? Maybe he did it, maybe he slipped up, but he could also be that sorry excuse for a nephew. Sure, he could lie, but maybe people would pick up what he was putting down. And then there was the hunter extraordinaire. “This is Topol, got your message. Starchaser’s providing us with some profiles for you. Military folk, need to find them, make some contact. Hear one is looking to provide us with some information. Think you can find them?”

Now was it speeder time? He hoped so.

Eliza just shook her head at the bearded Mando'ad. "You are an jag, Kad'ika," she chuckled as they waited for a response from [member="Coren Starchaser"]. When the Warden replied, the petite smuggler keyed the comm.

"Roger that, Actual. We'll see you at objective one after dropping the noise makers off. Pony out."

The Corellisi brought the YT-1930 Light Freighter down and landed in a secluded spot half-way between where the resistant cell was setting up and the ruins of the Hand of Thrawn's location. From there [member="Kad Tor"], Rahly, and Eliza would take the weapons cache and deliver it to the cell headquarters, then they would make their way to the ruins to aid in stripping the place of any useful tech still there. While they were to be gone, "Leebu" - the Steele family's quirky LE series repair droid, would man the ship in case a quick pick up was needed elsewhere.

"Well let's get this show on the road, shall we?" Lizzy said with a lopsided grin as she jumped out of the captain's seat after the post-flight check was finished, then swaggered back to the main cargo hold.

On the way there, Eliza stopped off at the weapons's locker in the corridor and grabbed her dual holster that rode low on either side of her shapely hips. Stashing her favored DL-heavy blaster pistols in them, she double checked the DC-15s side arm sitting in the shoulder holster under the smuggler's vest. She also grabbed extra power packs, flash bangs, ribbon charges, and slid one of the goran's special thermal detonators into a protective pocket he'd given her as a present. Her slicing datapad too was placed in to a pouch on her utility belt. A vibroknife, a present from [member="Remy Steele"], was tucked into a sheath in her boot, but that was always there. Funny how Eliza always got weapons as gifts from the men in her life.

The "Mull" was already packed and ready to go. Hitting the wall panel control for the cargo ramp, Eliza of course jumped into the driver's seat of the SUV speeder. Rahly and Kad could fight over who got to ride shotgun and who got in the back with the goods.

[member="Vilaz Munin"] [member="Orick T'ane"] [member="Vassara Raxis"] [member="Tesda'latha'osomo"] [member="Ezra Klev"] [member="Lok Jorunn"]

"Actually that would be Graad Hokan. I'm tame compared to him at times, cyar'ika. Besides, you love it anyway." Kad winked.

While post flight was done, Kad checked the cargo. They were all there, minus the one Kad had on his belt. He was dressed in his green armor, and had his gear strapped to him. He smirked as he walked by the weapons locker and watched what Lizzy was bringing with her. Yeah, she was definitely a lady after his own heart. Whatever the Manda had done in taking Ral, Lizzy more than made up for it.

Rahly wanted the front, and Kad, he was not going to argue with the wookiee. There were certain things you just didn't do, and pissing off a wookiee was one of them. Besides, Kad fit better with the weapons anyway. He knew how to handle them. The damned fur ball had not been careful in how he loaded some of the crates. Kad liked the carpet, but sometimes he wasn't careful. Kinda like Kad in that regard.

"So this Coren guy, he's a force user? He decent, or is he the kind I don't trust as far as Mesh'la could throw him?"

The question was valid. Kad was still getting to know all these people Eliza associated with. If he was gonna be with Lizzy more often he needed to be familiar with these people.

Location: Occupied Compound
Mission: Establishing Resistance Cell

The Mercs threw Vassara a rope and she gripped it hard. No hanresses, they werejust going straight down. The door opened with a hiss and the commandos stepped off casting the ropes out of the back of the bay. As they sailed down to the parapets below the plae instanyl lit up with fire. Crisscrossing beams of emearald and crimson erupted. Repeaters fired, it looks like there was slightly more resistance here than was thought.

"Move, move, move!"

Vassara ran of the ramp, jumping free of the craft and clenching the rope. The commandos descended foot by foot, feet slamming the deck. Another blast to Vassaras left made her duck and she scanned the area. The ccompound was mediums sized, with a central tower and walls on all four sides around that tower. Across the top of the walls hired thugs and few black clad Sith troopers were making there way towards the Mercs.

"Spread out, kill em all!" Grom roared.

The smoke was thick and intense as the battle roared.
Bodies began to hit the floor like leaves in the fall. Vassra pushed past Grom, unsheathing her Combat shotgun. The muzzle waved a deadly pattern across the fronts of her enemies. Slugs flew into their chests, bone and flesh exploded. This was a horrible posistion, tey were far to exposed. She kept from geeting nailed using only the force, able to sidestep where she anticipated the shots to be.

The west wall so far was clearing up. But something different was about to go down....

"Hold up, what are they doing?

"Retreating?"

Vassara paused, swinging the barrel of her shotgun up over her shoulder. A twinge of insitnct roiled in her gut suddenly. Someone wasaiming right for her, which could only mean....

"Jump, its a trap!"

Just as the young womans feet left the wall, the spot where she stood exploded, peppered by slughtrower auto cannons as they slid forth from reccesses in the tower and began to hail red hot tungsten rounds...

The Corellian Rose (retired)
Eliza gave a head nod to the brandy brown-haired Wookiee as he took up the shotgun position, then turned to see that [member="Kad Tor"] was set to go in the back. She chuckled at the Mando'ad's question as the spirited Corellisi put medal to the pedal sending the SUV speeder forward and their heads snapping back. Rahly was used to her need for speed. Kad would learn the hard way most likely.

"[member="Coren Starchaser"]? I think the Warden is an okay guy... But if your niece is anything like her uncle, I bet she could throw someone pretty far."

As the three-man team got closer to the safe house where they would drop off the supplies for the resistance cell, the petite smuggler got a feeling in her stomach; one [member="Remy Steele"] had taught his daughter to listen to.

"Hey Kad'ika… I need a read on the area ahead. Can your HUD there give us some intel? I hate going in blind and walking into an ambush."

< "Well she is a Tor," > Kad chuckled at Lizzy's description of Mesh'la.

He'd felt the turn in the atmosphere, and it was wasn't the crazy fast speeds Eliza was driving. Kad loved it, and thought if Lizzy loved this she needed to drop out of a ship in a war droid. Damn, he needed to make her some beskar'gam as a gift. Though that kind of gift would imply something far beyond where they were in their relationship. Would she take that gesture as moving the relationship too fast? Kad wasn't ready to lose her because things went too fast, but he didn't want things to go too slow. Maybe he was just too concerned about the pace.

He blinked and checked his HUD for anything that might be out of the ordinary. The thermal readings ahead were off the charts, then cooled off suddenly. Kad knew that too well. There had been an explosion, and that only meant their company was somewhat expected.

< "You're driving right toward an ambush, Liz'ika. Cut around it about right now, we can swing wide a couple of kilometers. Maybe if we can flank them we'll be okay. We've got to get these supplies there, and I'd prefer to not have to use my detonator right now." >
