Discussion Thinking of Doing a Complete Character Reboot - Could Use Help

What would this 'reboot' entail for the character?

Asking out of curiosity. Could maybe help or pitch some ideas out to you.

Always available on Discord if you want more real-time responses/discussions.

So in my mind a reboot would be sort of like the reboots you see in some American comics. Essentially I would erase all of her history and start her fresh in this time period. The primary goal was to clarify and simplify her story, making them more relatable for this time period and easier for her to interact with others in this era. Instead of trying to figure out her past (as she's currently doing now) It would give me a chance to write it out.

Do what you want to do. Commit to it.

If you are still in this internal debate phase 6 months from now you will just amp up your frustrations. This is the 4th time I have been part of this discussion with you.

You have so many people willing to create a story with you.

Decide. Commit. Write. Have fun.

Honestly this is probably my BIGGEST problem is picking a direction and committing so I sincerely appreciate you having the balls to call me on it.

... I've reached out to a few people who this might effect.... opening the dialogue.

I'm appreciating all this advice and ideas so if anybody else has more two cents now is the time!
I'll just reiterate what some of the others said - do what you want to do. It's your character and your choice what happens to her. Whoever else bemoaned the reboot is on this creative writing board so they can get creative about how it affects their character - they DO NOT get to call shots on your character. You DC reboot if you wanna DC reboot and whoever can cope with it. Cue the "Oh no anyway" gif. This your moment and I know you've been struggling to iron out Kat forever now - we've also had quite a few discussions on it in the past. You make a decision now on what YOU want to do - stop frustrating yourself by doing what others want you to do and go where you feel in your heart you want to go with your charrie and where you see the most story opportunity for her. You've bent in the past to accommodate others and they don't deliver, seeing as you are still struggling, so this time, do what you want, not what they want.

In your heart you are leaning in a specific direction but some people are holding you back - so forget about what they want and sit down and decide what YOU want. They can cope with it and should, quite honestly, stop manipulating you into what they want for themselves. It is time to take the fate of your character in your hands and take her where you want her to go. From what I've seen so far, and I know I am one of them with my own characters, we'd support you in whatever decision and would write with you regardless of what you decide.

Thank you!! I appreciate these kind words and encouragement

I'm still waiting to hear from at least one more person because our characters were pretty closely tied. I know this particular person is always supportive so it shouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to be a douche and just pull the rip cord you know?

far out, man
So, I've thought about rebooting characters before. I think you and I are pretty similar in terms of writing history, length of time on chaos for the most part, etc etc.

I've never been against reboots per se, but often times I think rebooting a character will sort of end up with the same issues or similar ones later on down the line. Maybe a new character is in order, or a new faction, etc. I find it easier to shelve characters for months or years at a time and then come back to them later on. Fenn and Thal are good examples, or Nej and Wedge for me. Things and themes I can come up with, revisit, redo.

But I think in your instance, maybe creating something new rather than what has been said would be better.

Thank you for that perspective! I think part of the appeal of at least getting her into this timeline is the possibility to offer her siblings and other family members... thus opening new characters connected to her that can flesh out her story a little more. Plus giving her a reason to care about the current politics and current state of the Jedi etc. Right now she's sort of doing her own thing because she's a washed up has been who doesn't know anybody (except a tiny few folks) or connect to this universe.
