PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Thog is large, even by Ithorian standards, with a muscular and gnarled physique from a lifetime spent in the brush. His skin is a pale beige color with his elongated neck topped by two large, black eyed. He normally has a large amount of fuzzy grey stubble covering his elongated head. Thog dresses extremely practically for the outdoors at almost all times with plenty of leathers and survival gear on hand at all times.
PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Thog Ultu is, to his bones, a predator. Quiet, patient, and utterly ruthless, with a passion for nature that swings between deep reverence and violent obsession depending on where he finds himself. He often disregards sentient beings, finding animals and plants to be more 'pure' and 'worthy' of his time, although he does respect those with strength and skill. Thog has little fear of death or desire to gloat, to him hunting is a test of skill, and what money or glory he gains from it are only help him continue his pursuit of increasingly dangerous prey.
Despite all of this, Thog has a deep knowledge of and respect for nature, in his own strange way. He prefers a low-tech approach to almost all aspects of his life, not just hunting, and despises those who poach en-masse or hunt simply for bragging rights. He is formally studied in plant and animal sciences and keeps a catalog of observations, samples, and other data alongside his hunting equipment and trophies, seeing the two as part of the same pursuit.
STRENGTHS
- Rugged: Thog is tougher than Rancor leather and has pushed through being shot, mauled, poisoned, and worse more times than he can remember.
- Seasoned Hunter: Thog trained to be an Ithorian ranger since larva-hood, and has been operating as a renowned big-game hunter ever since leaving him.
- Naturalist: Thog's mastery of the wild comes from a mix of academic study and practical experience, making him a walking encyclopedia of flora and fauna.
WEAKNESSES
- Big Game: Thog is massive, and with his iconic Ithorian head he can stand out like a sore thumb, especially in urban settings where he can't blend into the brush.
- Thrill-Hunter: Thog lives for the thrill of a dangerous hunt and will sometimes go out of his way to make a relatively safe expedition more treacherous.
- Strange Reverence: Thog never quite shook the old Ithorian reverence for nature, hence why even now he prefers a low-tech approach to hunting.
HISTORY
Thog was born to the Oltu herd on a herdship orbiting their homeworld of Ithor. The Ultu family had a tradition as conservationists specializing in the many rare and exotic animals of the jungle. Thog was eager to go into the family trade, and spent much of his youth training to prepare to enter the Mother Jungle of Ithor. His first official mission would prove to be more challenging than expected, when his unit came across a group of poachers who killed their officer.
Thog and the rest of the young rangers would scatter into the jungle, being picked up by poachers, predators, and worse, until only Thog was left. Something changed then in the young Ithorian, as he launched on a campaign of terror against the poachers and slaughtered them to a man before returning home. His superiors were equal parts amazed and uneasy at such a display, and debated whether to promote the young ranger or banish him. Thog didn't wait for a verdict, he simply hopped the first freighter off the herd ship and never looked back.
Since then Thog has wandered the galaxy as a freelance big game hunter, lending his skills to animal smuggling, poaching expeditions, and other illegal wildlife activities. What he is really after even he doesn't know, all that remains after his many long years of stalking the most dangerous planets in the galaxy is the need for the hunt.
SKILLS AND POWERS
Thog is, above all, a master hunter, trained in the arts of identifying, tracking, trapping, and especially killing beasts of all kinds. He also has experience in handling and training wild animals as well. He's also an expert survivalist with an extensive knowledge of how to thrive in a wide range of different environments. Combined, these skills make Thog a nightmare to deal with in any natural environment, and his skills with slugthrowers, blasters, knives, and traps work just as well on sapient prey. He also has a remarkable green thumb and maintains a large terrarium of exotic plants on his ship. While he can only physically speak Ithorian, Thog also understands Basic, Huttese, Rodese, Dosh, Shyriiwook, Tusken, Kaleesh, and Togruti.
