The Treehouse on Lothal

Braze had left the modest treehouse on Lothal in the care of Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru and Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el during his absence.

Before his departure, he had tended to a few humble improvements on the self-sustaining retreat nestled in the branches. A well had been dug nearby, and a simple water system implemented. The garden was coaxed back into neatness, with fresh soil turned and young sprouts encouraged to grow beneath the warm sun. Once the work was done, he allowed himself a break.

The air was balmy, sweet with the scent of wildflowers and the faint tang of loamy soil. A gentle breeze stirred the tall grasses, sending waves rippling across the open glade like a green-gold sea. Braze sat cross-legged near the edge of the tree line, idly toying with a few curious Loth-cats that had crept near. Their coats shimmered in the shifting light as they padded through the grass, their eyes bright with mischief. He shared bits of grilled poultry from the small fire pit, the smoky scent curling lazily into the air.

Lunch finished, Braze reclined back into the swaying grass, arms folded behind his head. He exhaled slowly, letting his body sink into the warmth of the earth. Above him, pale clouds drifted across a painted blue sky, languid and unhurried. The leaves rustled overhead, and the grasses danced around him, lulling him into that rare, quiet harmony with the living world.

For a while, he simply watched, content to be still, to breathe, to exist in the calm hush of nature's rhythm.... All was well... all was at peace.

Out of all of the planets she'd found herself on, Lothal remained singular in its impressive pastiche of generic Outer Rim-ness. It was the lack of noteworthy features that made it noteworthy; grain was just about the least interesting thing anyone could grow, it had only one major city, and the population was the classic assorted mix of humans and less-than-1% individual demographics of other species. As of about two months ago, there were only two things that made it even worthy of a single line in Niysha's modest and growing archive of personal notes.

Firstly, there was a small, old Jedi temple not far outside the capital city. Secondly, Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru was there.

Initially, Niysha had drifted through with In Rhan In Rhan when the Dancer had stopped to offload freight, refuel, and take on the next load. Just one day had been enough time for the Miraluka to wander randomly through the capital city until she happened to find an uninteresting sight among uninteresting sights. There were probably countless small, nowhere Jedi temples across the galaxy, each hosting an equally small contingent of rural monks who just wanted to meditate in peace and make their planet a slightly better place than it would be without their help. Aliris wasn't exceptional in almost any way, but the Force had tossed her into Niysha's path regardless.

One unimportant padawan well past the age that she should've been knighted, and one unimportant spacer with a slightly scary old box. After just a single day of wandering around Capital City, handing out baked goods and helping orphans, the two of them had parted ways. Niysha always left new acquaintances with her holocomm code, in case they wanted to see her again, and normally that was the end of it. To her surprise, this time it wasn't.

When she'd landed her modest little personal shuttle on Lothal to reprovision for a trip further out into Wild Space, Aliris had rung her up and asked to show her around a bit more than last time. Their first stop was, apparently, an old treehouse she'd had with a few of her friends once upon a time... which Niysha had fully expected to be empty. It was not. At the edges of her comfortable range, she could see a distinctly Jedi presence.

Niysha's hesitation was visible. She'd already been burying her presence for Aliris' sake, but if there was a second Jedi she had to contend with, it might not end quite so happily as it did on her last visit. It was absolutely best to let her friend take the lead... and maybe flick open the zipper of her bag to make it a bit easier to draw her very, very well-hidden lightsaber, if it came to that.

"Looks like there's someone up ahead, Aliris," she commented just a meter or two after she noticed them, slowing to a stop. Niysha tried her absolute best to make her smile as genial as possible and not at all quietly freaking out. "I wouldn't want to sneak up on them. Want to go introduce us?"

Braze Braze

It'd only been a couple months, but Aliris really had missed Niysha more than she'd expected to. There was something about having a friend that didn't know who she was before, that wasn't going to be able to compare the now to the then, that really made her feel.. Better. Even though she knew no one she cared for was going to judge her, Aliris herself still was.

She was stronger now. A couple of months and more of the muscle mass she'd lost in her coma had returned. Strength so she could walk on her own two feet. Climb a mountain on her own, even. Slowly and with frequent breaks, but she didn't need to be carried anymore. Even the tree house she could climb up into on her own.

"Someone ahead..?"

There was a tilt of her head as she looked forward, trying to see who it might be. Or was it more- Ah. Her senses stretched out, and sure enough, it was someone she hadn't expected to be there but didn't mind none the less. Maybe she was even happy. Maybe. The burden of who she was still clung to her shoulders, even if she was stronger now to bare it's weight.

"Oh. It's Braze. I stole his lightsaber once and tried and failed to bleed the crystal in it. Despite that, he's always been my best friend. You don't need to be tense, I promise." Even Aliris could pick up on the subtle uncomfortableness Niysha gave off. Whatever the reason didn't matter too much, not if Niysha didn't want to tell her, but she had brought the Miraluka here to relax.

"Braze is one of the more relaxing people to be around."

There was a pause, then a fit of laughter as she realized what she said. ".. Okay maybe not, but! He's friendly, at least." With a brighter smile, the kind that was trying to push down the sense of inferiority, she'd lead the way towards the base of the tree.

"I wasn't expecting you here, Braze. I've brought a friend. Niyasha, Braze, introduction complete."

Niysha Niysha | Braze Braze

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

By now, Braze had coaxed one of the friendlier cats to relax with him, rewarding it with soft scritches as they settled around him in a small pile of lazy kitties, content to have been given freshly cooked meat as treats and soft pets. A few of them scampered off into the grass, but one remained as people drew close. He continued petting the remaining gray-toned lolth cat as he looked up to Aliris. He glanced over the new girl, then back to Aliris, offering a smile before returning his gaze to the cat.

The pesky 'empath' that Braze had developed into could sense a few things about both their auras rather easily, but he made no mention of such things nor tried to draw attention to it.

"I had some free time and decided to get some work done out here, I'm basically on vacation." Braze offered gently, with a soft yawn and a lazy stretch. He carefully scooped the cat out of his lap and set it down in a patch of grass before moving to stand. "It's good to see you making new friends, Ali-cat," Braze chirped, drawing one hand up and curling it into a fist, which he brought to an open palm, offering a respectful bow to the Miraluka.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Niysha. I trust Aliris hasn't gotten you into too much trouble~?"

A consistent theme with Jedi that Niysha had met recently was the damage they'd sustained in their aura. She idly wondered how much of it was Serina's fault, and how much of it was Valery's. Of the many, many positive qualities she could attribute to Valery Noble, "encouraging a Jedi-like mindset of detached, resilient zen" wasn't one of them... but there was also a Sith empire literally right next door. That probably accounted for a lot of it. It was always difficult to tell.

Since Niysha now had three Jedi points of reference, it was entirely possible to plot any new Jedi aura she saw on that chart. Braze rested somewhere between Valery and Aadihr: the damage, the pain, and the quietly faded light burning through a layer of deeply personal darkness... but also a dauntingly fierce flame curled up into so much sharp, directed intent. He had very much the same aspect of a viper, and Niysha had absolutely no interest in stepping on him.

"Pleasure's all mine, Braze," she replied with a smile, taking a brief but far more casual bow. One of her arms hoisted her bag up on the opposite shoulder as she stood back up. "She's been wonderful, and frankly, I'd trust anyone she said to be her friend basically implicitly." Niysha was confident that a Jedi would understand the truth to sometimes be very complicated; she didn't trust strangers regardless of who knew them, but she absolutely believed that Aliris' presence alone would be an insulating factor on this very intense young man's actions.

Hopefully it'd be enough, and she wouldn't have to beat the fastest retreat she'd ever made on foot.

"That's a whole mess of cats," the Miraluka noted, making a conscious effort to "look around" at them for the benefit of all of the people in her immediate vicinity with eyes. "Did you guys raise them, or did they just sort of migrate here?"

Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru Braze Braze

Good. They were already hitting it off, or at least as well as Aliris could tell. She was pretty bad at understanding the nuances of friendlier conversations, given just how rough Denon was to grow up on. Or, maybe, she was just projecting her hope that two of her closest friends would get along.

"You don't really raise Loth Cats. They just decide if they wanna hang out or not." Aliris crouched beside one. Fluffy, as it was affectionately named for it's seemingly excessive amount of floof compared to the others. As per usual it pretened she wasn't there for a good while before finally allowing itself to be pet.

Totally not a facade.

"They're friendly so long as you don't try to pet them without their approaching first. Even then, be careful. They're quite fickle on what's too much attention."

Braze Braze | Niysha Niysha

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

"They're wild here, and in somewhat of an abundance. They keep womp rats and other critters from getting inside, so I welcome their place in the food chain," Braze chirped.

"Would you two ladies like to head inside for some tea?" he asked gently, clearly offering to serve them something warm so they could presumably talk in comfort.

He seemed fairly relaxed, his aura open yet hard to read. Braze had a habit of keeping a vice grip on his mental shields, a trait that could be perplexing to Force sensitives not yet familiar with him.

"Soot is inside, if you want to see a cute little black cat I raised from a bottle," he added belatedly, glancing toward the fluff-covered lawn where lolthcats padded through the tall grass. "She's fairly friendly..." He paused, thoughtfully considering some things.

"I've got some nice floral blends and fruit blends, if you're in the mood for something fancy. I already had lunch but if you two are hungry I don't mind making something for you two."

A tragic side-effect of being a wizard is that sometimes, you need to keep your mind from thinking solely in terms of what spell you know that could solve your current situation. For instance, "unfriendly loth-cats" was a pretty easy hill to climb after training in Lord Ignus' beast techniques. They were made for large, angry meat-weapons, instead of adorable little critters... but, as always, Niysha would consistently prefer the mundane solution for as many reasons as she could name. Chief among them this time? Blowing her cover, obviously, but also the un-cuddly effect that any kind of mental manipulation might have on very cuddly domesticated companion animals.

Mundane solution? Respect the harmless little furballs' personal space. She had tons in common with a skittish rural pest.

Of course, when she was offered polite smiles and gentle tones by two Jedi who she very, very much hoped didn't want to throw down, Niysha did need to hype herself up at least a bit before she agreed to follow them inside, out of the line of sight of anyone nearby, into a place that might've been very quiet. Aliris was either incapable of the concept of violence and aggression or the best actress in the galaxy, and her friend was exceedingly difficult to read (she made a quick mental note that aaaah, so that's what that felt like), so Niysha didn't see any reason to doubt them... and reacting as if there was reason would probably create even more difficulties.

"I'd love some tea," she replied with a blindfolded, no-eyes, no-eyebrows, minimal gesticulation smile. Fortunately, several near-death experiences recently had given her plenty of practice in handling her anxiety. She took a moment to reassure herself that this was absolutely no more dangerous than flirting with a Sith Lord she'd never met in the middle of an ancient Sith tomb with all of its traps undisturbed since the late Cold War era, then followed the two of them into their charming loth-cat treehouse full of tea with absolutely zero lightning traps, mummy batteries, or explosive obelisks.

Niysha decided that she should initiate small talk, lest it be initiated upon her. "...So, I'm guessing you two... trained together? I'm not entirely sure how Jedi temple operations work way out here." She stopped and cocked her head to one side, a Miraluka affectation of a confused blink. "...Or at all, come to think of it."

She had a couple of ideas, naturally, but she intentionally hadn't asked Aliris about her experience as a padawan. That was the path to getting reciprocal questions.

Braze Braze | Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru

LSKHt0n.png

"When we were going to start to finally train together, I fell into that coma." It was that same weight again in the back of her mind. To finally have that personal freedom to be who she wanted to be, not what she had to, only for it to be ripped way was still heavy in her heart. A burden she didn't share, not with Braze. He had all this time to process it.

She wasn't going to drag him back.

"Tea would be wonderful. Do you have the local flower's? It's really calming." She gave the same smile she always did to Braze. I'm okay. You don't have to worry about me.

"I'm still figuring out how training works, in truth. The Sith were very- different in how they taught, even for the brief time I was there. I was more like those kids we spoke to before."

Braze led them up the winding steps into the treehouse, the wooden planks creaking softly beneath their feet. The space above was cozy and sun-dappled, with woven tapestries hung along the walls and soft cushions strewn across the floor like a nest of comfort. The scent of cedar lingered in the air here along with something floral like the faint sweet smell of gardina.

"I'd be happy to teach you anything you like, Aliris; so long as that doesn't constitute fire breathing dragons and things like that... " Braze said, glancing back over his shoulder with a warm little grin. "I'm a knight now, after all and I even hold classes now and then for padawan learners." His tone was light offering an open invitation.

He stepped into the small kitchen nook and turned slightly toward them, eyes twinkling. "I do, yes… I have this blend of ashwagandha root, lemon balm leaf, black elderberry, lemongrass, licorice root, ginger root, hibiscus flower, cinnamon bark, black pepper, lemon peel, lemon oil, black tea, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla; with milk and honey optional for a sweeter, creamier version if you ladies would like." His hands moved as he spoke, already rolling up the sleeves of his tunic to the elbows, revealing forearms dusted faintly with flour or chalk from earlier practice.

"Hot or iced?" he added casually, already moving to set a pot of water on the small stovetop. A gentle flame sprang to life as he turned the dial.
"Have a seat any where you like. Really make your self at home, Niysha. "
Braze washed his hands carefully at the sink, the water gliding over his fingers as he hummed softly to himself. He dried them on a linen cloth and began retrieving small glass jars from the cabinet, each one neatly labeled in a slanted handwritten script. The jars clinked softly as he arranged them on the counter, selecting specific pinches of herbs and tea leaves.

The scent was already beginning to bloom with an earthy, spiced, and citrusy smell.

As the tea steeped, he turned his attention to lunch. It seemed he didn't want Aliris of her friend to go with out food and decided to make food for them regardless. They could either eat it or he'd save it for a snack later on.

He pulled a loaf of crusted sourdough from a bread box and sliced it cleanly, setting the slices onto a wooden board. Sharp cheddar was next, thick enough to melt into a satisfying bite. He cored and thinly sliced a few honey crisp apples, layering the slices in to ceramic ramekins before covering with some melted butter and dusting them with cinnamon and brown sugar. He popped those in to a small oven that was still hot.

He warmed a cast-iron skillet with a brush of butter before coating the bread with butter and a touch of mayonnaise. He pressed the cleanly cut pieces of the cheese sandwich in to the heated Skillet letting the sandwiches sizzle until golden and crisp on each side. The scent of browned butter, and melting sharp cheese, melded with the sweet caramelizing apples wafting through the space.

Not done yet, Braze moved fetching the crêpe batter he'd pre-mixed earlier for his own meal. In a clean pan, he poured just enough to swirl into a paper-thin layer. Once golden and soft, he spread a rich swirl of hazelnut chocolate across the surface, folding each crêpe around slices of banana and fresh strawberries. He rolled them in to thing conical designs and popped the ramekins out of the oven and placed a small layered crêpe in each one having sliced the fruits fairly thing to make a tantalizingly thin layered texture. A swirl of vanilla whipped cream finished the ramikins before-he dusted the whole thing in some powdered sugar.

He assembled two plates and moved to set them on a table.
"I think every one trains a little differntly depending on what they wish to study and pursue. " Braze offered gently. "Is there something you want to learn Niysha?" Braze asked curiously.

A small black cat—an ordinary cat, by all appearances—was sprawled lazily across the windowsill, stretched out in a patch of warm sunlight. Her sleek fur shimmered slightly in the golden light, her tail twitching idly as she basked.

But when the tree creaked under a newcomer's step, the cat stirred. She rose and leapt down from her perch, landing soundlessly on the wooden floor. She padded over with curiosity, the pads of her paws soft against the worn boards.

Reaching the visitor, she sniffed delicately at their foot, tail held upright in the shape of a gentle question mark.

Then, with a small, decisive motion, Soot sat down and looked up at the new arrival, her yellow eyes wide and thoughtful, studying the stranger with interest.

After a few moments of silent observation, the little cat seemed to make up her mind. She moved toward Aliris and gently brushed against the blonde's legs, her sleek body arching just so. With a soft, rolling brrr-maow, she voiced her demand for attention, winding once more around Aliris's ankles like a dark ribbon of fur...

Oh, that was a cute little house.

Niysha found a place to sit as efficiently as possible, making sure to keep her bag nearby. She opened it only long enough to retrieve her datapad, stuffed that between her hip and the cushion beside her, and then properly directed her attention to the quietly commanding presence of the two Jedi in the room with her. "I only have preferences for caff, not tea," she replied with a slightly easier smile than before. "Anything's fine. Honestly, I'm afraid I might not know good tea from bad."

In was the tea drinker of the two of them, and even when it came to caff, Niysha's standards were notably lax. Proper coffee was too rare a luxury in her normal environment to have a preference towards one or another, and most caff was basically the same with slightly different flavorings. The Dancer's first crop of organic beans hadn't grown in yet; maybe that would change in the future.

Wizard problem: Niysha contending with the knowledge that she could absolutely be this cat's best friend in about two seconds. In a way, hanging out with Aliris was a shockingly effective way to train her self-control. Things that she would've used the Force to conquer easily became mild obstacles to overcome with strategy or finesse. Or just... patience, in this case.

Braze's question implied that her camoflage wasn't quite so effective on someone who wasn't as intrinsically trusting, kind, and gentle as Aliris. Or maybe just that he had read a single paragraph about Miraluka and drawn some basic conclusions. Niysha was, of course, tempted to lie immediately and easily. It was just about the quickest and easiest way to get people off of her tail. Intentional deception was harder with Jedi, though. Occlusion and avoidance were more reliable, but neither of those was easy in a situation like this.

An honest answer, then, was probably her best option. "My whole job is learning about things, being curious about things, finding new things out," she replied as she reached as politely as she possibly could for a pastry. They smelled delicious and it would be insanity not to partake. "But right now, I'm not after anything in particular. I was in the neighborhood and Aliris invited me over."

Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru | Braze Braze

LSKHt0n.png

"That- could be nice." Wasn't something she wanted. She didn't want Braze to teach her as a Knight. Maybe help as her friend, but not a Knight. It just widened the gap she already felt with him. Even now she couldn't bring herself to speak it aloud. instead she turned her gaze to the tea. "Vanilla, milk and honey please."

It was simple and sweet, and right now that's what she wanted.

She reached a hand down, gently letting her fingers brush over the fur of the cat that now circled around her ankles. Not for long, of course. She knew better than to overstay the welcome the cat had given.

"Relaxing is good too. I didn't expect to have full and fresh treats to share with you Niysha. You got really good at this Braze." She took up one of his offered treats, if only to hide the dimming of her smile and the flash of annoyance at it. She was here with two friends, there was no reason to feel this down. Maybe later she could, but right now?

Enjoy the moment.

Niysha Niysha | Braze Braze

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

Braze deliberately prepared a strong espresso, making it extra sweet before pouring a shot for Niysha. He took the second teacup for himself and curled up in a soft, plush chair. "So you're like a scientist or an explorer. "

"Thank you. I've missed having taste buds something fierce..."
he murmured, savoring the moment. Then, with a curious tilt of his head, he asked, "So... how did you two meet?"

Braze made a conscious effort not to read people's thoughts, surface or otherwise, so unless Aliris chose to share her wants with him directly, he remained in the dark. For now, he simply wanted to be a friendly host to her guest and learn more about the mysterious Niysha.

Of course, Braze's question caught her in the middle of a bite. Niysha didn't fumble but for a moment, holding up one finger in the universal symbol of "wait a second, lemme swallow and maybe get a drink to clear all of this pastry out of my mouth" that everyone intrinsically understood regardless of language barriers. Thus relieved, the Miraluka cleared her throat quietly and offered a slightly flustered smile.

"Something like that," she replied unhelpfully. "I like to think I'm an archaeologist, but it keeps getting pointed out that archaeologists have degrees. So I'm just a relic hunter." Niysha nursed her tea for a few seconds, silently reinforcing her bias for coffee to the detriment of the galaxy. When she was done, she placed it gingerly back on the table and pulled out her datapad. "The last time I came through here, I had a pretty nasty piece, and it got Aliris' attention."

After a tap or two, Niysha handed her little tablet computer across to Braze, making sure to turn off the uncomfortably neon Miraluka mode. On the screen was a little metal cylinder, covered in rings of runes like a combination lock. "This one. It's obviously a puzzle, but I'm having trouble cracking it." She shrugged shortly and leaned back in her seat, crossing her arms. "But that's the fun part. Every mountain climber needs an impossible peak."

...Also she'd been very distracted with Serina's nonsense to actually be able to focus on the cryptex for a while. Her whole rhythm had been thoroughly derailed by weeks of Sith distractions, and the tragic result had been a dramatic end to most of her actual treasure hunting. It was good that In's business was still bringing in credits, because Niysha hadn't contributed to the household in a while.

Ugh. She'd have to fix that, soon.

Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru | Braze Braze

LSKHt0n.png

So the puzzlebox hadn't been solved yet?

There was a relief there as Aliris sipped at her mug. The kind she wasn't going to make known, at least to avoid suggesting that Niysha didn't know what she was doing or the like. "She ended up helping me give out baked goods to the people of the city. It was pretty kind of her, considering I approached with a bit of a 'hey maybe that's dangerous for you' sort of mentality that Jedi shouldn't reaaaally have."

Niysha Niysha | Braze Braze

Kai'el Brat "Guardian of the Light"

Braze leaned forward with interest, his eyes flicking from the datapad to Niysha's face, clearly intrigued in what she was looking at.
"I like puzzles~" he chirped, as a boyish grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. "So you're the type that pokes around old Sith tombs and fiddles with their booby-trapped heirlooms, huh?"

He glanced between Niysha and Aliris, as if wondering if this was an interesting commonality he'd just discovered.

"Cursed holocrons, locked vaults, creepy statues that whisper to you when you're alone...yeah, I've seen what those kinds of relics do to people. And not always the 'fun surprise treasure' kind of outcome." He visibly shuddered recalling what kind of bizarre hell he experienced along side Nathan Bloodscrawl

He tapped a finger thoughtfully against the rim of his mug.
"Not judging," he added, raising both hands briefly in surrender after setting the mug aside. "Most old Force artifacts carry more baggage than a star cruiser full of diplomats."

Then, tilting his head slightly, "Still, gotta admit...there's something kind of cool about it. I mean, unraveling secrets buried for centuries? That's the sort of thing you only read about in holonovels."

Niysha chuckled through a soft smile and leaned back in her seat. "It's not normally so glamorous, but to be honest, even when you're trying your best, you still wind up having to outrun the occasional death trap." She held up her fingers, counting off one at a time. "Explosives, blasters, sentinel droids, very large rocks... you'd be surprised at just how many different kinds of zombies there are."

After a moment, the Miraluka stopped and cocked her head to one side, pulling up a pillow to hug it tight in absence of any cats. "Well. Maybe you wouldn't. I'd assume that Jedi are pretty experienced with corpses reanimated by horrible and malicious powers from beyond the aeons." Maybe not Aliris. Actually, the only reason Niysha wasn't convinced Aliris had never even touched a lightsaber was due to her bringing Braze's up twice.

She let the silence pervade for a couple of seconds, sorting out her talking points, but eventually Niysha took the initiative to segue the conversation into something less focused on herself and her hobbies. Or career, really. "But, of course, holovids are generally far more interested in the thrilling heroics of Jedi." Nodding her head slightly, Niysha indicated towards Braze. "If you'll pardon the presumption, I can't really 'turn off' the sight. Normally I try to politely neglect to comment on the shape or shade of people's auras, but yours..."

Again, Niysha's smile was gentle. Maybe a little understated, or hesitant. Difficult to tell without eyes, of course. "...It wasn't my intention to interrupt such a rare retreat. I'm absolutely delighted to meet one of Aliris' friends, but I hope having a stranger here won't ruin your respite."

Aliris took another sip of her tea as she listened, idly glancing between the two as they spoke. There was a subtle tension, but they seemed to be getting along. Her smile dipped a bit at the mention of zombies, though. Undead weren't something she'd ever felt comfortable around, and that certainly hadn't changed in all this time.

"It's been a while since I've been in a tomb exploring. Zombies were some of the worst, but- there were others pretty bad too. Spiders. I don't like the spider ones."

Braze eased back where he sat, a lazy sort of confidence settling into his posture as he cocked a smug little smile.
"That's okay," he said, voice soft but teasing. "You can look at my auras all you want."

He gave a one-shouldered shrug, his tone warming into something more sincere.
"You're not interrupting anything by being here. I built this place to be kind of a halfway stop, good for people passing through. I don't stay long, or often, if I'm being honest."

At the mention of spiders, however, Braze visibly stiffened. His expression scrunched up in an involuntary grimace, and he gave a quick, full-body shiver as if trying to shake off the memory.

"Ugh. Yeah, no, I'm with you on the spider thing," he admitted, tucking his arms a little closer to his chest, his posture unconsciously folding in on itself. "I can handle a lot, but too many legs? Nope."

He exhaled through his nose, forcing a crooked smile back into place as he sipped at his cup...
"Undead are awful too, don't get me wrong. But at least they're less likely to crawl down your sleeve."

"I don't mind spiders," Niysha replied with a grin, reaching down to present her hand to one of the cats waddling through the room as if it was his personal palace. Which it was, of course. Every cat owned everything it saw. This was a known scientific fact, provable in a lab with countless aeons of mathematical theory and recorded testing to prove its veracity. "Despite what people think, most of them aren't aggressive. They police pest populations, they're timid of larger organisms by nature..."

Ah-hah! Cat acquired. Niysha leaned back with her catch, hands gently beneath the beastie's forelegs until he was gently placed on her lap. If his temperament was-

Nope. Gone already. Niysha offered a defeated smile to his haunches as he scampered away without so much as a hiss. "Granted, I've had to knock a few out of my boots when I forget to cover them while they're drying out." She'd been bitten by a few different critters, and she just didn't understand why people were scared of spider bites specifically. Snakes were far more dangerous and aggressive.

After a moment of pause, Niysha left her fingers on her chin to reason through a particularly... morbid thought? Was it morbid? Probably a little, considering the subject matter. "They're similar to a lot of undead I've seen, actually. Some aren't aggressive unless you enter their territory. They're content to just exist within their space, if you don't test that space."

Was Niysha a bug girl? Oh, Bogan, she might've been a bug girl.
