The Torment of Tantalus

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
The construction facilities that were being set up had been developed for all of them, it was giving the jedi something to work with when the woman stuck around. Wanting to see what they would be able to do before she walked around on the bridge of the ship. They were looking over the shipyards themselves to get a better look at the two ships that were showing up for the jedi themselves. The massive one they had been developing to function as a warship and defend systems with it. The stealth patrol destroyers that were being set up as well were there with new crystal grav traps being installed on them so that they would be able to use. She could see it here where they wanted to get all of the things for themselves until the jedi and local governments wanted to push it all forward. "Alright then, let us see what we will be able to do with this, looking for some of the other shipbuilders with us."

The gap that was left behind for them would be filled and on display with the stealth destroyer model itself. While not being able to have a production level that some other ships can get it does allow for landing on planets and moving into systems with some fo the best in stealth capabilities and with a little dev and research anti stealth capabilities for themselves. A crystal grav trap is installed in the ships to provide fleets with advanced levels of detection with sensors.

Description: A technological marvel that has been developed by Sasori, Saotome and Phenex industries. The ship is something designed to enter a system with escorts and there is meant to be nothing able to match its firepower and the thick heavy armor and shielding for it protects it. The major drawbacks to it is.... the hanger has been eliminated with docked flowers on it across the hull that can detach and provide additional firepower in a system with the ship.

THe other major drawback is while it has a higher performance engine that has been worked on to give it a little more speed then others its size it is still unable to turn compared to anything else. Its strongest weapons are also a very powerful thing but they are stationary and require timing to prepare and prep for firing rates. The amount of weapons on the ship is higher then many others have ever seen or faced which is an important thing to state in the end.

Camellia felt bad being rather tardy after receiving the invitation. life was rather stressful trying to navigate around what the hell was going on as political situations around the galaxy changed. Of course, now Rendili was neutral, but for how long remained up for debate. It was a nice scenario for her homeworld, but it would undoubtedly be cut short whenever someone made a strong bid for the inner rim and the core. Making every contact with possible associates that could provide her company and Rendili itself some information or ally was important. So as her small transport dropped out of Hyperspace, the Rendili woman looked about as she shifted to tap her comm unit. "This is Camellia Swift of Rendili Stardrive. I apologize for taking long in arriving, but if you'll have me I'll land where you wish and do what I can for your project."

Sala'dine was looking out the viewport when the transport arrived and the presentation of the omni and patrol destroyer here likely looked imposing. That was the point as she moved with some of the things going forward to meet the shipwright. She might not be a shipmaker but she served on them all of her lives so far so she did know the ins and outs of her own ships. She wouldn't repair them, there were qualified people but she preferred to understand them as opposed to just expecting things to work. "Welcome." There was a look on her face as she clasped her hands behind her back prepared to show off the ships and present all of it. Pound for pound these ships were going to be meant to strike and lay in the pain. "I do want to remind you Lady Swift that the secrecy of this project." She indicated the Omni, the massive beast of a ship that she had flown into as the internal hanger was designed to provide protection as the sides opposite were lined with point defense to handle fighters and anything trying to sneak aboard. "The Omnipotence class is something that pound for pound is meant to go against the strongest ships in the galaxy and we have been working on designing it to work with a support fleet such as out stealth destroyers."

[member="Sala'dine"]

"Don't worry, I understand the need and desire for confidentiality in these situations. It gives one a bad reputation when they can't be held to a trustworthy standard. I hope you find that Rendili Stardrive is a worthwhile companion in your endeavor." Looking out at the Omnipotence class as it was mentioned, Camellia was quite impressed with its design, though she was more so intrigued by the patrol destroyer and its sleek and intimidating aesthetic. The level of security surrounding the ships in production was in a way intimidating as well. It was inspiring really, and gave the Rendili woman ideas of her own to increase the security of her shipyards as well. Still, as much as she was eager to get underway not least of all to make up for her tardiness, it seemed like the other woman was a tad apprehensive. It left her wondering if there was a threat of security leaks or if it simply had to do with inviting outsiders to help on the project.

Ah perfect then, with all that had been happening and well suddenly information about ships that were being made but hadn't even been seen outside of one system.... THey had been contacted about the ships within hours of one actually being finished. First off the line as Coci and Thurion had gotten a message from across the galaxy saying 'So we know you have been making new ships' "That is good to hear after some recent questions we have been looking for ways to tighten up and keep things quiet. We made a couple of ships and before the first was even off the line suddenly the specs were out to the sith order and across the galaxy. It was disheartening to say the least and why we are out here." She said it as the testing and main area was near one fo the massive shipyards they had managed to create for this purpose. ten kilometers of manufacturing space and dozens of factories to produce the parts of it. With the stealth destroyer and its two other models that we are working on. A small frigate that will be combining some vong biotech with the standard. It will even be dead to force influence."

[member="Sala'dine"]

Now that truly was a disheartening admission to hear. Camellia knew how tough it had been to keep works secret during the height of the war, especially when she had worked to sneak several designs to the Republic while still maintaining the surface of loyalty to the One Sith's empire. Having an inside leak was typically the worst and fastest way for one's hard worked efforts to be spoiled. "If you'll accept some advice, routine checks of employees on such projects is typically a good way to see things. Only long time and ambitious workers usually work on the more complicated and personal designs in our yards while newer employees are kept on the mass produced and already well known works. Well that's one way. Another is to shift workers on these projects without truly informing them of what they're doing beyond their job, so none can ever give away the whole since they don't even know what the whole is. of course that is internal sifting, to deal with actual spies its best to ensure your security divisions can cover all avenues of approach to the berths in question and that bug screening is a bi daily activity. Still, it seems like you've gone plenty out of your way to ensure secrecy of your work here, I don't think anyone would have an easy time peeping on your toys here."

Those were some good ideas for how to ensure that they would be able to keep things safe. She expected some things might work and some things might not work. Either way as she was leading the way through it all she showed off some of the hardlight displays of different things. "That could help and we have chosen a remote area of the galaxy to place this station for construction. Anyone coming here pretty much has to be looking for it and we can use the majority of our ships that are out to track and find them." she stuck a few designs up as the patrol destroyer was up and ready to see. "This will be our patrol destroyer, moderate size and speed but it has some of the strongest stealth systems including what we have been workign on. A layer of biot jelly that makes the ships themselves force dead making it so jedi and force users cannot sense them."

[member="Sala'dine"]

As she was led around the station, Camellia couldn't help but ponder over the excessive security still. She wasn't entirely sure who she was working with yet when it came to their allegiances, but she was also certain there were far fewer parties for the galaxy to wage war over nowadays. It seemed the level of caution extended to even the new designs as the Rendili woman looked over the works that were being shown to her and listened with great care to what was said of the patrol destroyer. "Are there that many force users running around that you'll need that level of effort? That can't be inexpensive, and wouldn't there be more cost effective means. I admit its an impressive work and the concept is quite interesting for a ship its size and for its purpose. I suppose I just worry that if it is a necessary precaution that warfare itself has taken a sharp decline then hasn't it when we're this reliant and worried over force wielders."

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
[member="Camellia Swift"]

Well as she was thinking about it with a look on her face though when she worked on things. "There are a number of force users but there are also ones in the galaxy who can do things like take over the minds of entire crews or rip ships from orbit... or worse make all powerful storms to rip ships apart. The number compared to the galaxy might be small but they seem to appear with alarming frequency compared to other things." She was looking at her and sticking with some of the other parts. So that they could do it. She was showing off all of the parts they had until well she got near an area of the station and the ship. "The cost for it though is a little easier. The biot jelly is less a new thing to make then what doesn't take. Much like when making food use all parts of something. it is easier to make and less expensive."

[member="Sala'dine"]

"It sounds like things are just worse than the last few wars. I don't recall any Sith or Jedi with that level of power before both their major factions fell apart. Though I did avoid the fighting, I was quite well established in paying attention since arming the Republic under the circumstances wasn't easy. If there are monsters like that out there they ought to fight each other to death and spare the rest of us the trouble." Sighing, the Rendili woman ran a hand through her hair and looked back at the view. The galaxy was too crazy with mystics running around and putting all strategy and art in the ways of war to ugliness and shame with how horribly they mocked mere logic of the universe. "Still, the worry then is if there comes a way to counteract your safeguards or if the biots fail to work as intended. Nonetheless I agree with the sentiments to limit a force user's ability to define a battle with magic over tactics. Whatever help I can provide just make it clear, I'm more than on board."

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
[member="Camellia Swift"]

Hmm as she was thinking about it she needed to work with it. Wanting to see what they might be able to do when it came down to all of it. She wanted to make sure the weapons and systems on the ship were designed and solid compared to the rest. This patrol ship would be working towards the new base model to really push them to be able to make some frigates and eventually as she brought up the larger designs. There was the Jedi's Shadow design she was looking at and wanting to set it up so that they would be able to work on some larger ships. "Yes, we'll have to see, the main thing we need to work on here is the design and make sure that it is solid and able to work as a ship."

[member="Sala'dine"]

Nodding at what was said, Camellia simply sighed and turned to go wherever was needed to look at the schematics at sufficient detail. "That should be the simplest part. Ensuring it fits into a role or has the capability to operate as a standalone vessel is the very first step in designing it, but with prototypes at hand I suppose you're past that. What are its internal systems like? Its software security and onboard defenses should be noted since if we're worrying about force wielders, one that is able to infiltrate could still be a threat to the crew. In that regard what is the crewing looking like? I can bring in techs if you wish to slave some of the systems together to single maintenance points and power relays. It makes them more vulnerable to single attacks, but it cuts down on necessary crew size and makes them easier to repair at one time. The risk is mitigated by the fact the enemy would need to know where the systems are relayed anyway which is safe to keep from them as long as they never discover the blueprints of course. Outside of these, what sort of weaponry is the ship equipped with? Will it be more of an ambush type or carrier sort?" So many questions ran through the Rendili woman's head as she tried to think of where to cover her bases while not overloading the conversation all at once. She'd settle for this information and carry on.

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
[member="Camellia Swift"]

"We have been working on ways to protect the systems, the new command chair that has been developed allows the captain to biometrically lock out the systems in the event of attack. It is one of the measures and with enough practice they could run the ship as he systems are able to be slaved and automated." She was looking at some of the things they might be able to bring up presenting more of the information from the ship itself. She showed the different systems. "The internal defensive systems use the special sensors for detecting cloaked users and is tied to the gravity plating we have developed. It will allow the ship to if on lock down control all of the gravity on the ship crushing intruders."

[member="Sala'dine"]

The Rendili woman tapped her chin while she listened. The bio-metrics was a nice touch, but the rest felt a tad extreme and perhaps overly complicated. "A fully automated ship lacks the pride and soul of a manned one though that is only my personal opinion. As for the security, why not tie the gravity controls into the detection system? If you run the system through the floor plates, a stealthed intruder still has to walk somewhere, and once they've taken a step gravity in their area can be increased depending on whether you require their capture or termination. It simply seems more efficient than running them separately just for stealth enemies." Having commanded a ship whose bridge was breached by a Sith before, Camellia shuddered remembering how hard pressed her security had been. It had been difficult enough for them to stave her off so the bridge crew could evacuate, automated turrets and trained soldiers in tight corridors were effective, even a lightsaber couldn't deflect everything after all, but dark side powers were horrific to watch rip apart people. Gravity controls seemed like a sound defense so long as the being who invaded was from an intensive gravity world, trying to push things too far could damage the ship or divert too much power.

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
[member="Camellia Swift"]

Hmm that was a better way they could do it. Given the sensors that were in the floor used biometric camera's to quickly work on detecting and checking. "That can work, we have been working on it to make sure it will be safe. The biometrics is important in getting security on the different ships. We have a number of other things that is able to be used. I know a few other materials to start making it harder to breach the ships are being done. Tunqstoid doors instead of durasteel is one of the first step as the weight of the doors deter a number of force users with their sabers and if they can't access the system for the mag lifts then it can't be moved."

[member="Sala'dine"]

Camellia confessed that she was still a little concerned about the biometrics when it sounded like it went further than the captain and integral crew. Not that the security was bad, but because of efficiency she worried over. "If you mean biometrics that will detect non-crew members I think you'll quickly have a problem. Non-essential crew rotate around vessels to the point a typical engineer may serve on multiple ships in the span of a year or two, requiring your technicians to keep up the biometric data frequently and if they end up slacking with the system because of it that opens security holes. Human Error will always be outside the realms of predictability. In a way I do suppose such intentions favor a lower crew count like you intend though." The old CIS and Techno Union could have done with some systems like what was being proposed considering they hardly had live crews on their ships to worry over. The galaxy changed far too much far too fast.

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
[member="Camellia Swift"]

She brought up a point and it was something that well Sala'dine had experienced but at the same time. You got so used to crews not rotating that the same people being on a ship just seemed standard. "Perhaps, it is something that is different. Most of my men have been with me on my ship for years and we have been without replacements. So perhaps human error could become a problem but I have also seen how quickly groups can suddenly board a ship bypassing all of the defenses. I got tired and would prefer in many cases increased security over whatever has been seen in the past that is exploited." She expected a lot of it when she was moving around though and showing some of the displays as the patrol destroyers were moving around quickly.

[member="Sala'dine"]

Camellia could tell what was going through the other woman's mind as she spoke, she too had typically had the same crew aboard her ship. However, that was the point, it was her ship, she had handpicked the personnel to serve aboard when she was an officer. The only replacements were when casualties were suffered, which was more often the starfighter pilots than anyone else rather sadly. "You forget neither of us run an entire faction. While ensuring even a squadron of ships maintains the same crew, you can't do that for dozens of battlegroups across tens of sectors. Casualties, defectors, leave rotations, and even those facing mandatory retirement happening all at once everyone is a constant process. I do concede your design is likely not going to be a mass produced warship on the frontlines, so it faces less risk immensely from these situations. You would simply have to ensure the crews are rigid in their discipline when it comes to security matters. Whoever these ships are for would have to be stressed to have important it is they adhere to strict performance mandates for crew manifests."

Sala'dine

Admiral of the Ghost Fleet
[member="Camellia Swift"]

Hmm she was right and giving a lot of information for some of the ideas that she wanted to do. Sala'dine was looking at some of the things before she nodded. "Yeah these won't be frontline ships, support and for patrolling areas or scouting if needed but we are making the frigates that will be able to serve that need as well. Eventually larger versions of them for more needed and careful missions possibly but I am getting ahead of myself. We need to make sure this design is ready, then more onto the other plans." She had a few other things here though and security, training and everythign that could be improved upon so that her soldiers would be better working on things.

[member="Sala'dine"]

The Rendili woman nodded and motioned to continue when Sala'dine spoke up. "Larger ships aren't always the best for stealth unless they are meant for long incursions or are intended to ambush enemy vessels. Since its a patrol destroyer, I believe you intend for the latter when it comes across hostile ships during operations. WHat else about the design did you wish to talk about? I'm more than happy to look over its overview and have my techs take a closer inspection at any components you want a second opinion on." Although in truth Camellia hadn't worked on very many large stealth warships. Typically they were easier to construct because of the usual power restraints that held back most smaller vessels from running a dedicated stealth field generator, however, they were also unorthodox in their abilities since they couldn't be utilized as one would want to all the time. Still, they were certainly terrifying as ambush units, that was certain. Smaller stealth craft were far better for recon, mine laying, support, and infiltration though.
