Description:
The Thunderbolts is an elite airborne division and foreign auxiliary unit specializing in air/space assault, boarding, and direct action in hostile territory. Its ranks are entirely composed of battle-hardened Mandalorian and Togorian volunteers, refugees and migrants who had settled in the KSU from Mandalore and Togoria in the wake of their worlds being beleaguered by global crises. Much like the program for Yinchorri joining Dragoon Cavalries, volunteers of the 37th are offered a path to accelerated citizenship for their service. Many Mandalorians, in particular, join with the promise of constant action as Kiribi is always conducting military operations abroad.
While the majority of volunteers coming into the 37th are combat veterans, much training is still required for standardization between all the disparate groups that make up the division. The 37th also trains closely with Dragoon units who have a similar mission profile, which helps them better integrate into the Kiribian army. The advanced stages of their training cover topics like orbital drops by individual heatshields, and rapid breaching of ships and spaceborne installations. As the KSU commonly finds itself engaging Sith and other hostile Force-based organizations, Teräs Käsi is taught to so that soldiers can learn to protect their minds from mental influence when Ysalamir are not available. Instruction for Thunderbolts is more intensive in comparison to the Dragoons as they're more experienced with basic melee combat.
The 37th uses a mix of traditional Mandalorian weapons, and cutting edge Kiribian weapons made available to them by the military, specific loadout varying between missions. For psychological effect, soldiers of the 37th wear distinctive Katarn-commando armor, which closely resembles authentic Mandalorian armor. Depending on environment soldiers may use repulsor packs or rocket packs for flight.
