The Teachings Of The Founders

Avery stood in the large open atrium, no longer wearing his hat and coat. They were left outside the larger room. The room that Avery stood in, the aforementioned atrium, was a training room that had been constructed abroad the Corporate flagship, a star ship that had came into the possession of Avery. It was given to him due to his rank in the Corporate Protectorate. The rank of High Commander, a rank he felt was not earned but certainly did not shun it. It had been several months since he joined the Protectorate, several long months of battles that had not been won, pointless fights, and unrest within the Protectorate but finally they had planted their feet in firm soil and were given the chance to expand into more planets and grow as a nation.

Today wasn’t just any day. Ari was coming to the flagship and may be bringing some with her. This would be Avery's fist actual introduction to her, something he had many reasons to want. One being that Avery had not had proper training with the Darkside since he first began in the Protectorate, second being that he’d barely spoke with his leader, even for his rank. Whichever reason Avery wished to quell the most, it was still training and it would be useful in the long run.

A couple of hours had passed and Avery now sat in the meditation position, the first thing that was ever taught to him by his master, I man that he had not spoken to for far too long. Avery, nevertheless planned on having some training. This would be, hopefully, fun.

THE FLAGSHIP

She'd been a busy woman. They all had been busy. The rise of the Corporate Protectorate had been rife with rocky starts. Avery and the rest had been there through every battle. Yet they had not had time to meet and share their stories or Philosophies.

She came alone, clad in her OD Green Jumpsuit, combat harness and carrying a single Silver hilter lightsaber. It was concealed in a holster at the small of her back. Bladework had been her calling, and thus she did not carry any other weapons, except for when necessity demanded it.

Black boots beat a steady clip on the deck. The door whooshed open and she stepped forth into a dark cavernous chamber. She could sense Avery was already here, wreathed in the currents of the Darkside. She cleared her throat and gave him a bow. It was a courtesy borrowed from her favorite lightsaber form, Makashi.

"Supreme Commander Regailis. A Pleasure to meet formally at last..."

Avery looked at the figure that stood in front of him. Consul Zanareth… his leader and now his training partner, a role that someone of her magnitude would most likely have hated but he doubted she cared. Avery arose from the spot he had been sitting, previously, and stepped toward the Consul. He then proceeded to bow, as she did, but in a somewhat informal. Lacking the grace of Nexus Krae, and Cypher Rage. in honesty, formality wasn’t Avery’s strong suit. He was a brute and he knew as much. He was here to fight and lead, not talk about politics and the like. But here, in this room… is where all of the members of the Protectorate were equal. Put on the same ground, to fight. Fighting... that was the song that all Protectorate members sung. And they sing it loud.

Most of the Protectorate officials found Avery’s lack of speech odd. In truth it was odd, especially the story of how he lost his words. But it did not matter. If someone truly wished to find out then they would, he certainly didn’t hide his history. Avery walked over a weapon rack, scanning the unique killers that lay on it. He picked up an electro and vibroblade, examining both with intensity. He then walked back to Ari and extended both, letting her have her pick.

This little fight would be just a warm-up. They would then proceed to the real training Avery, and hopefully Ari, wanted to do.

Naturally having practiced several lightsaber forms, she took the vibro blade. It was slim, and mediumish length. She wielded it as if a rapier.

Once she had her hand firm around the grip she stepped back, and let her right foot slide to the rear, left foot forwards. Her body she angled so her left hip was facing Avery. The blade itself came out stretched as an extension of her arm, elbow slightly bent and grip loose.

"Very well then. En Guarde."

Avery stared at the woman he was just now becoming acquitted with. He looked on as she positioned herself, holding the Vibroblade like a rapier. It was an… unusual way of holding a blade of that type. In the galaxy that they lived in today rapier were the things of fantasy. In fact, not many knew the correct way to hold a rapier. But this one did, an admirable trait.

Avery ignited the electro-staff, spinning it like a double bladed lightsaber. He circled Ari, watching every movement she made. He made one full rotation around her. She still had not moved an inch.

Avery grabbed the handle with both of his hands, holding it firmly. He then positioned it like a spear and began his second rotation. Nearing the end of his second rotation, Avery made a jab with the electro-staff, testing her defense and seeing what ways he could get her off balance.

Though his arrival was late and probably a bit unexpected, Credius apologized calmly to the men at the hangars of the impressive flagship of the Corporate Protectorate. Though he was yet to formally join the protectorate to better protect his future assets and plans, the fact that he had interest in doing so, was no secret though, as he was beginning to attend some of their gatherings and more social venues to better understand their structure and motivations. Knowledge after all was key to his plans and if the Sith Empire remained in such a deadlock state, trying to find a place in a growing power in the core was perhaps a strategically better move. Though he did wonder how much it would cost to place some subsidiaries for the Eriadu Manufacturing Shipyards in the protectorate's space.

All those things aside though, he was here simply to bear witness to an event he had not expected to occur, dressed in the finest silk and romex clothing, adorned with the usual family jewelry and with a cleanshaven face and well maintained and groomed scalp; Credius entered the dim-lit room with a wave of his hand to excuse himself for being late, motioning the two to continue if they would've paused their spar on the account of him entering the place so unannounced. Though he had cloaked his own force abilities and his eyes showed only a negigent amber hue within the silvery white of his irises, it didn't mean he himself could not sense the strength behind the two combatants and though it was clear that neither was a master in terms of force capabilities or prowess, he had no doubt that they'd still be formidable in their own right and rule. "Oh do not mind me, Madame Consul, Commander...do just view me as a humble spectator to this moment and your brilliance in combat...please, do continue."

Ari took his word for it. If he was here to spectate, then let him.

Part of the allure of Makashi to her had always been the footwork. While other forms favored jumping and hacking and slashing, Makashi did not.

It was a grace form, full of finesse and tiny nuances.

Some of which she used now.

She slid back, shuffling by about a quarter meter, and flicked left with her wrist. Her blade met the tip of the electro-staff, knocking it off course.

For every action in Combat there was a reaction.

Hers was swift. She moved to exploit the subtle opening now left in the Commanders defenses.

She took a concentrated step inwards, realigning her frame with his and directed a quick but tempered jab, seeking his midsection....

Avery listened to the man’s words. He imagined that would be the nicest thing a sith would ever say to him. Still, he took the complement and returned his attention to Ari Zanareth. Watching her movements as all good duelist should. But there was a slight problem here. Avery was not a duelist, he was a contract killer and as such acted as one. He wasn’t used to open combat like this, he barely survived his encounter with the Darksider on Selvaris, for that fight he had to rely on his cybernetics to save him and he knew in future fights he may not be as lucky. He’d killed Force users before, but he had to use ambush tactics and slug-throwers, not the blades he became so familiar with. And fighting a Force user was nearly impossible on account of their ability to sense you a mile away. But eventually Avery worked out solid method of killing an average Jedi or Sith. cortosis… of course it was an expensive option but it was the only way for a clean kill. You see, most Force users rely on their lightsabers and most of the time when Avery would fight them, they would assume he was just a common thug. But Avery would carry a pouch of cortosis dust. He’d throw it into the air and it would deactivate the saber.

But for Ari it wasn’t as simple. His first issue was the fact she was using a vibroblade, the second being that this was a duel, which meant they fought on even ground. But Avery wasn’t unskilled. He knew how to fend of some saber styles. He wasn’t the best against Makashi but he could manage.

Ari deflection was flawless, followed by a jab, similar to Avery’s, into the stomach. She wasn’t trying. Testing but not trying. Same as him really. You had to know how the water felt before you swam in it.

Avery spun away from the path of the vibroblade, now at Ari’s side. Avery brought the electro-staff down to Ari’s back, the other part of the staff facing the vibroblade. He knew this wouldn’t work but he might as well try.

Seeing how the two simply did acknowledge his presence, but did not seem to minds it, Credius grinned just a little bit. It was never bad to have a good look at the capacities of others in terms of combat abilities. Though he could hold his own in both a physical and a weapon based battle when need be, he viewed himself first and foremost as a user of the force, usually relying on his prowess in putting his will upon the force to start and end a fight as he pleased, but still could not deny the practicality of duels and fights pertaining weaponry and physical capacity. "Well executed," The words slipped through his lips when noticing how Ari managed to deflect the Commander's initial attack, reacting with a smart counter. However, the masked man didn't seem to be a slouch either, skillfully avoiding any damage and wielding the electrostaff with good form. "Hmm...not an easy weapon to wield with proficiency...interesting."

Fireson was requested by [member="Avery Regailis"] to go to a training. He hoped that Nexus did not mind. Fireson saw Avery and walked torwards him, since he figured that it would help.

"Who do you want me to try to beat up first?" asked Fireson. "I am ready to do a couple rounds of wrestling on a mat. Who wants to take me on? You, I suppose?"

Ari let the blow land on her back. She clenched her teeth against the jarring pain of the voltage. Both legs gave in slight but certain. she dropped her knees and executed a forwards commando roll. Once she sprang back to her feet and found her footing she was several paces forward and left of Avery.

The blade came back up, poised in her Makashi guard.

She grinned and shuffled forwards.

As she neared she stepped the shuffle into a quick two step pattern.

She sent a jab midriff, and then retracted, swinging left and right to try and catch his legs. Both strikes executed with a forceful but measured flick or her wrist...

When Fireson barge in she shot him a piercing gaze with her icy blue eyes.

"Wait your turn. Never interrupt a duel...."

He never got tired from watching other people display their proficiency in combat through a well organized duel. It was after all a show of strength and even though he masked his force powers and wore the face of one untouched by the dark side of the force, Credius as a sith in his heart could appreciate the idea of strength and the display thereof. Noticing how the consul managed to intercept the commander's aggressive assault and was able to what seemed to be the use of form three Makishi to her advantage by recovering quickly and keeeping up her guard, a simple grin crept onto the marquis' visage. "Very good."

Just like Lady Zanareth though, Credius as well could only give a stern look at the young man who managed to loudly disrupt the flow of the duel and thus slightly irritated the marquis just as well. "Young man, perhaps it is more fitting to watch and learn from this display of strength and prowess within the martial arts," Credius turned his head towards [member="Fireson V'Trechen"] with a now much softer look in his eyes and upon his face, the irritation and frustration ebbing away quickly. "Though should you still feel the need for some lessons, I will be happy to see your own proficiency on display when this duel has concluded."

The electro-staff struck Ari, shocking her in the process. He didn’t expect the blow to make contact with the madam Consul. He expected her to avoid it or perhaps parry the attack, not intercept it. Nonetheless, it was still a successful attack that Avery would gladly accept.

Avery still imagined that she might have been toying with him. She’s a sith, one with more training than him. That being said, it was highly likely that she was just waiting to get his hopes up than crush him. Maybe I'm just paranoid, Avery thought to himself.

Ari sent a jab into Avery, who then raised his staff, prepared for the attack. But Avery was mistaken, this was not her attack. Ari’s blade redirected itself to Avery’s legs. Avery barely managed to bring the staff to where Ari had first struck. He parried it but missed the second slash. It cut deep into the flesh of Avery’s leg but was stopped by the metal implants that lingered just below the skin. It didn’t

Fireson bursted into the training room, loud as he could be. Avery looked at him through his mask with steely eyes. He quickly returned his attention to Ari. he spun the staff in his hands, waiting for the Consul’s next move.

Fireson looked on. It felt as though people wanted to watch the attackers, then fight him. He jusdo what they wanna do, but grabbed a swig of water from his bottle.

"I would be interested in that," said Fireson looking up at [member="Credius Nargath"] . "I am being taught by one of the greatest fighters of all the faction though, Nexus Krae."
