OFFICIAL: After digging through the Maw's black holes, Vanessa Vantai and the Void Irregular Fleet discovered the one within which the Sun Crusher had fallen. Using data from the Maw's computer bank combined with the immense power of the Dark Side of the Force, the Sun Crusher was taken out of the black hole and reverse engineered. Now, unknown to all but some extremely high up within the Sith Empire, a legion of Sun Crushers stands ready to light the galaxy aflame, slaughtering innumerable innocents for the glory of the Dark Side.
UNOFFICIAL: Vanessa did indeed acquire the blueprints to the Sun Crusher, but found it effectively impossible to reverse engineer the resonance torpedo, whose technology was far too difficult to reverse engineer. Not having the entirety of the Sith Empire's funds to direct towards remanufacturing such a superweapon, nor having sufficient technical skill to duplicate the capabilities of quantum-crystalline armor or the resonance torpedo launcher, Vanessa went with the more rational route of creating false duplicates of the Sun Crusher in order to inspire fear of the ancient supposedly recovered superweapon in the Sith Empire's enemies. Only a select few in the Empire know, like with Trigon Two, that the weapon is in fact a decoy within the SMD program.
To mimic the effects of quantum-crystalline armor, Vanessa fitted the fake Sun Crushers with advanced deflector shields and an adamithium hull fitted with the first extant examples of the diatium capacitance array. This combination of armaments means that the fake Sun Crusher is exceptionally resistant to energy weapon fire, even capable of for a few seconds tanking turbolaser shots(though it cannot survive a glancing blow from a superlaser). Its shortcomings become apparent, however, when confronted with physical weapons, as it only has the particle shield component of the deflector shields combined with a weaker adamithium hull to protect itself.
Like with Trigon Two, the existence of the Sun Crusher is known to a select few within the Empire, and even fewer know it is merely a decoy. After it is revealed to be fake, the project will be declassified and the extant examples, given they lack a true alternative purpose aside from being a fake superweapon, will likely be either sold off or decommissioned and sent to museums.
