“Oh.” Valenya caught herself after the captain of this ship, if not her captor, corrected her. Head still bowed, facing away from his gaze, she at least felt the burgundy leave her cheeks. She couldn’t put her finger on it but there was just something in the way he conducted himself, his speech as well, that made her feel at ease—under the circumstances at least.
“Sorr…” She whispered the word, weighing it on her tongue as she turned her face toward the viewport.
“Sorry, sir—I mean, Sorr!” Go and explore the ship, he said.
He’ll be back with the food and drink, he says. She wasn’t certain if she could even believe him or this situation given the collar on her neck.
And the fact that I’m still a bird trapped in the cage that is this ship.
Nevertheless she was hungry and thirsty if her stomach and throat were anything to go by. What could be worse than satiating her need if he was offering? At least food and drink would keep her from starving and dehydrating. So, after the captain left the cockpit, Valenya sat back and watched the stars, picturing herself flying between them.
Free. That was where Sorr found her when he brought back hotdogs. She hadn’t even left her seat to explore.
“Jawa…Juice?” Head flipped toward him, she licked her lips, eyes widening at the sight.
"Hot…dogs?" Hoping her insides weren’t making noises anymore amid the butterflies, though hardly caring at this point, Valenya felt like no less than a dog in the way she gazed at that plate. Only this man clearly did not expect her to beg. Nonetheless she waited patiently and accepted graciously.
Well, she intended to, anyway. Yet, as soon as the juice and hotdogs landed in her lap, Valenya became another person, more of a beast than anything. She sipped the juice, bit the hotdog, then tossed the straw to wash back pieces of bread and meat, chomping and gnashing her teeth as she tore and feasted. She uttered no words, of course, just made noises with her voice.
“Nom nom nom nom nom nommmm mmm-mmmmmm nom nom nom mmmmmmmm!”
