I hope that you'll forgive the unsolicited message. Your work has come to my attention on several occasions, particularly your research concerning biological responses to pharmacological agents. I suspect that makes you one of the few people who might find the following problem as interesting as I do.
I'm currently exploring the possibility of developing an agent whose effects are dependent upon specific biological markers. In simpler terms, I am interested in whether it would be possible to create a compound that induces a reliable, temporary state of unconsciousness in a general population while being substantially resisted (or rendered ineffective) by individuals possessing a predetermined genetic sequence, biomarker, or related physiological characteristic.
The distinction is important. I am not looking for a conventional sedative with varying levels of tolerance. The objective would be a deliberately selective biological response: two otherwise comparable individuals could be exposed to the same agent, yet only one would experience the intended effect because of a defined characteristic present within their biology.
Naturally, I have several hypotheses regarding how such selectivity might be achieved, but I would prefer not to anchor the research prematurely to my own assumptions. Your expertise may suggest mechanisms that I have overlooked.
If this concept interests you, I would be happy to provide the preliminary research and discuss the parameters I have been considering. I believe there may be a fascinating piece of molecular biology hidden within the problem, regardless of whether the eventual application proves practical.
