"While you grow old and frail, the dead only become stronger and more numerous. All will join me inevitably, it is simply a matter of time."

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Organization Name: The Sith Thanatocracy (formerly Thanatocracy of Exegol)
  • Classification: Religious Cult
  • Affiliation: Erebus Ignosi
  • Organization Symbol: The most common sigil of the Thanatocracy is that of a skull within a pyramid. Various symbols are used for different purposes by the cult, but nearly all of them feature skulls to some degree.
  • Description: The Sith Thanatocracy serves to empower Magnus Erebus Ignosi and expand his influence over both the living and the dead.
GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
  • Headquarters: The Midnight Ziggurat
  • Domain: Magnus Ignosi once ruled an undead empire beneath the surface of Exegol, warring with the other Sith who claimed the world as their home. That was thousands of years ago, and now Exegol lies in broken ruins. The Ziggurat has abandoned the world, instead seeking to establish a place within the Sith Eternalists.
  • Notable Assets: The Midnight Ziggurat is both the center of Erebus' power and the Thanatocracy's greatest asset.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Hierarchy: As a Thanatocracy, the dead rule, or in this case the undead. As a Sith Lich, Erebus holds ultimate power over the cult, promoting loyal servants by grafting them with necrotic modifications or turning them into powerful zombies. Those who can create and control undead are more likely to achieve a higher status.
  • Membership: The Thanatocracy is thousands strong, with the majority of the membership being undead or cultists that wish to become undead. To join the Thanatocracy, one must sacrifice a living being, preferably a loved one or close friend, and offering their body and soul to Erebus.
  • Climate: As all exist to serve Erebus, there is little infighting in the ranks of the Thanatocracy. Traitors and usurpers are dealt with quickly and harshly, often being turned into mindless thralls.
  • Reputation: As a Sith cult ruled by a Lich, the Sith Thanatocracy is either feared or reviled by most, seeing then as an unnatural blemish on the face of the galaxy. Others who seek eternal life may look to Erebus and his Thanatocracy as goals to attain, while those who serve the light likely wish nothing more than to see them destroyed.
  • Curios: Members of the Thanatocracy typically wear amulets of the cult's sigil, often wearing black robes as well as staves topped with skulls, either real or artificial.
  • Rules: "That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die." Seek mastery over death and the dead, and pay homage to Magnus Ignosi, He Who Has Conquered Death.
  • Goals: Magnus Ignosi intends on using the Thanatocracy to carve out a necromantic empire in the galaxy, establishing his dominance over both life and death.
MEMBERS
Erebus Ignosi: The Magnus of the Thanatocracy, the Lord of Lords, He Who Has Conquered Death. Erebus is the founder of the cult as well as its center of worship.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Sith Thanatocracy, once known as the Thanatocracy of Exegol before its ruler left the world before its devastation, is a religious cult of death and undeath ruled by the self-styled Magnus Erebus Ignosi, an ancient Lich who lived thousands of years ago. A Sith from the time of Marka Ragnos and Naga Sadow, Erebus left Korriban behind to build his own empire on Exegol. When he arrived, however, he found that other Sith Lords had the same idea, and Ignosi found himself embroiled in a war for dominance anyways.

A master of Sith Necromancy even before his ascension, Erebus formed a cult of death and undeath around himself, using his powers to establish his dominance. When his enemies tried to vanquish him, their soldiers would become servants in his legions of death, all the while his worshippers continued to grow in number. Beneath the planet's surface Ignosi's worshippers constructed for him a dread temple from which to rule from, its walls impenetrable by any of the weapons of his foes.

As with many Sith, however, all the walls and all the bodies in the galaxy could not protect Erebus from his own fatal flaw: arrogance. During a battle, one of his foes got the upper hand on Ignosi and seriously wounded him, forcing him to retreat within the depths of the Midnight Ziggurat. It was within his citadel that he would remain for thousands of years, regenerating from his phylactery. Over the years, his worshippers have been covertly sacrificing souls to fuel his regeneration, and only now has Erebus awakened to take reign of his cult once more.

With Exegol now in ruins (or, more ruins than it was previously), the Ziggurat has ascended through Exegol's crust and taken to space, where after a great effort Erebus utilized the Fold Space technique to warp the Ziggurat to Sith Space, seeking to recuperate and rebuild anew.
