Private The Second Convocation of Sojourn

"'The Fort is a replica of the same structure that the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Plagueis used to host the Gathering: an event that was used to shape the galaxy to the design of the Sith imperative. As the ancestor to the Muun Dark Lord, Darth Ayra intends to host the same annual event as her predecessor through her alias Alicia Drey following the discoveries she made on Muunilinst alongside her Sith Master, Darth Pandeima whilst securing the backing of the InterGalactic Banking Clan for her technological and industrial firm Chandrila DataTech."

THE SECOND CONVOCATION OF SOJOURN.
INVITATION.

To AINA HOLDINGS,

The hostess of this years GATHERING upon the HUNTER'S MOON OF SOJOURN formally invites CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER, MAKAI DASHIELL to attend our FIVE day event to consort with other likened minds regarding the events of the PLANETSHIFT and the formation of the first INTERGALACTIC SPACING GUILD. In the year 902 ABY a great change occurred throughout our galaxy through the convergence of several satellite galaxies through gravitational anomalies which resulted in great changes in the astronomical locations of planets and their respective star systems.

To date we have recorded astronomical data indicating new positions of at least FOUR worlds across IMPERIAL, NABOO-REPUBLIC and ALLIANCE occupied territories located in the MID RIM and OUTER RIM TERRITORIES. Our research has also found the disruption of several key hyperlanes and trade routes-- some of which have completely collapsed-- in part due to the anomalies that have been discovered in the advent of what historians are calling THE PLANETSHIFT.

We seek consultation with AINA HOLDINGS and it's CEO regarding these anomalies with the identification of a burgeoning new market which brings an opportunity for a new form of commerce and trading across the galaxy. The hostess would like to impart their gratitude for the previous business they have conducted with the DASHIELL FAMILY through the OBREDAAN PEEL and the sale of DOONIUM operations on the planet of LOTHAL.

Warm greetings, with the ideas of new business relations between our respective organisations, shall be incorporated into discussions hosted during THE GATHERING. Your entry code for our event is "8 14 22 13 24 14 20".

Please follow the following instructions for entry to the CARRION SECTOR.

INSTRUCTIONS:

- Make your arrival at NORTHWEST, found on the planet LIANNA, by STARDATE: 080625. A representative for THE GATHERING will meet with you at a nearby spaceport. Please pack a decorum suitable for our event.

- Transport will be arranged from NORTHWEST to SOJOURN. Expected travel time will be THREE WEEKS. Quarters will be arranged with any other needs met. Please consult with our representatives to cover any personal requests.

- Radio silence will be in effect during your travel time. We request that you do not share details of our event with others and to close any outstanding interests which may affect your attendance.

Thank you for your consideration. To look forward to your participation of this years convocation.

DREY INCORPORATED.

THE SECOND CONVOCATION OF SOJOURN.

Her stood upon the ramparts of a balcony overlooking the gathering below. Politicians from a array of galactic powers were intermingled among a throng of entrepreneurs, criminals and warriors from a wide selection of cultures, societies and civilizations. Some sat upon the hallowed seats of CHANCELLORATE on Bastion in service to the The Diarchy. Others were Prefects of COMECI or were from THE ROYAL ASSEMBLY on Naboo. They were each minor players within their respective governments but shared something in common: the desire to climb up through the ranks. The Dark Lord would help them for a price.

It was an odd sight to see these politicians mingling with the likes of the Krykna Mafia. No doubt if their presence here at this gathering were found out about it would cause a political mess in their home sectors but Her doubted the idea that these people would talk. There was an air of power-- something arcane that was brewing beneath the surface-- that would keep them in check, and they were right to think it. Traders, smugglers and entrepreneurs-- most from Imperial space-- were here to grease hands or acquire contracts for work. Then there were the warriors and others of the criminal element that here to keep them on their toes. It was the perfect tapestry of chaos that the likes of Her had the tools to paint with.

After five days of partying and celebration the event was coming to it's end. Some were richer for it while others had lost much. Subacc and other games of chance had not been an uncommon sight since they had been brought together by Her machinations. But their matters in relation to importance paled in comparison to the presence of AINA HOLDINGS and their CEO. Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell was the biggest player among all of them. His ties and contacts across the galaxy dwarfed all of these people. The potential for a working relationship with the man was therefore desired.

The hook had been DREY INCORPORATED. It was now a defunct dissolved manufacturer and distributor for foodstuffs (whom later entered into the mining markets through the acquisition of Doonium Mines on Lothal) who had closed earlier this year following the demise of the Empire of the Lost. A man like Dashiell was sought after and subsequently invited to many events by a wide variety of organisations throughout the galaxy, Her knew. To turn interest into full attention she had subtly included traces of the organisation and his former business partner throughout the invitation to get him here to discuss the formation of the first INTERGALACTIC SPACING GUIILD.

It had worked.

For the past two years work has gone into acquiring long term business relations with the Dashiell. The demise of Alicia Drey Alicia Drey had severed those connections. Would they do business with the likes of Her or was there too much water under the bridge? Was the prospective of starting a new market enough to tempt this young entrepreneur? They would both find out by nights end...

Wine in hand, Makai was speaking to a middle-aged man on the merits of hyperlane collapse and the ability to forge new space lanes. It was, for the most part, incredibly dull. Mainly because the collapse of hyperlanes meant undue stress for multiple beings, most importantly being his wife and mother-in-law. Important to him, anyways. Others were relying on critical goods to get through, meaning there were shortages and backlogs of critical things.

Almost every sector of industry had been hit. Makai didn't know of a single business, even a something a simple as a bait shack, that didn't use the hyperlanes in some form or fashion. Whether it was to ship their goods or to get something sent to them, goods and raw materials criss-crossed the galaxy. Even short jumps to sectors could be critical, another thing disrupted by the planet shifts.

"....you see the critical piece of information here is he who controls the hyperlanes controls the credits. I think you can agree with me if one can forge a hyperlane, restrict the traffic, use it for their own gain...well then, the credits just flow. Either due to charging for use or to move goods beyond what others are capable of..."

Nodding along, Makai brought his wine glass up for a sip to avoid speaking. Really should have sent his father instead. Being away from home like this was dragging on his nerves. This was the last evening as far as he knew. How he ended up being roped into all the days was beyond him. Day one had been for strictly corporate interests - as far he had been told.

A lot of posturing. Winded speeches like this one.

He'd gladly take a marathon of Tuskie the Tusken Raider on a loop at this point.

Beneath the veneer of celebration and ecstasy whirred the mechanical limbs of a LOM protocol droid. It was a stark contrast to the assortment of other units that were traversing the many hallways and rooms of THE FORT to tend to the invited dignitaries of some of the galactic elite. As it made it's way through the crowd towards Makai it paused and averted it's gaze to the other guests who were boring the young entrepreneur about things that he already knew.

"My master would like to talk about Mr. Dashiell," the LOM said to the others surrounding Makai. "Please excuse us." Turning it's alien like appendages to Makai next, the LOM inquired: "My master would like to follow up on the invitation that was delivered to you and Aina Holdings. Please follow me, Mr. Dashiell."

Contorting it's body around the LOM led Makai away from the throng of the last remnants of the party up the flight of stairs which led to here Her was standing. She turned and together the three walked into a room reminiscent of a board room that would be common to find in the biggest of corporations in the galaxy. Monitors displaying stock markets across of multitude of sectors were interlaced with holographic representations of maps and to the keen eye there were also locations of several organisations dotted here or there.

Whoever Her was they were watching.

"Hello, Makai,"
Her said in greetings as the LOM walked out of the room while closing the doors behind it. The noise of the party dimmed and was replaced an ambience of electronics and machines working in unison to bring about the undercover Dark Lord's machinations to fruition. "At last we finally meet. Director Drey spoke highly about you. Such a shame about how things ended for her in the dying days of the Empire."

"Shall we do business together?"

Makai wasn't sure if he should be thankful he had been rescued by a somewhat rude droid or mildly offended. Either way he kept his wine glass in hand, weaving through the crowd, quietly following behind. Up a flight of stairs and into a room that was very familiar. Holoprojectors everywhere. Readouts throughout the galaxy. News stations on mute. Many corporations had incident response rooms such as this. Even his own office in the comfort of his own home had two large holovision screens mounted on the wall that often played many of the same type of content that their mysterious host was imbibing in.

"Hello..." Makai paused for a long moment, trying to figure out a title. "...Miss."

The half-Galan didn't sit. Not invited to do so. Plus, the situation was a bit eccentric. Which in itself was not unusual. He had come to find many ultra-wealthy, the corporate types, the merchant nobility had many quirks. Looking from the outside, he was probably a little quirky to others.

"At last we finally meet. Director Drey spoke highly about you. Such a shame about how things ended for her in the dying days of the Empire."

"Shall we do business together?"

"Very unfortunate. Shame no one seems to have any answers regarding her demise. Almost as if her existence was quickly forgotten." Not an accusation, more an observation on his end. Normally Directors had statues, buildings or vessels named after them upon death, while Drey had none. A fact he found a little suspicious.

"It depends on those terms of business. I am willing to discuss ideas."

The demise and subsequent cover-up regarding the death of THE DIRECTOR was steeped in conspiracy, sedition and treason obfuscated by myths and lies surrounding the alias colloquially known only to a few among the upper echelons of the Imperial remnants as "LAETOR". Much like Dashiell had summarized it was better for the wider galaxy to forget for the origins and subsequent actions of the late Director of the New Imperial Security Bureau was a stain upon the perfection that was meant to be the Imperial state; and while they forgot and moved on there were some still hunting for the truth.

Makai Dashiell said:

Her faked a smile and walked around the table to move closer to Makai. As she approached, with her free hand, she gestured to a holographic representation of the Five Veils Route-- an ancient hyperlane affected by the recent convergence of satellite galaxies now dubbed "THE PLANETSHIFT" in the galactic record. "In the southern systems a finance group called Cortessan works in conjunction with a committee belonging to the Royal Naboo Republic to revive a hyperlane set to run through the Mid Rim with ideas of it rivalling the Corellian Run. Have you heard of this before?"

Glass of wine still in hand, Makai watched the holoprojector spring to life with another screen. This one of the Five Veils route. A curious addition, as he didn’t expect the route to get so much attention over the last several months. With the mysterious shifting of the galaxy, an otherwise ordinary route had gaines vital importance.

"I have."

Which was a surprise. Typically Makai heard of absolutely nothing. Nothing beyond mining and ore concerns, of course. Yet when one had a wife with a family business tied deep to the hyperlanes, it was hard not to pay attention.

"I have done business with the Cortessan Finance Group. After their display of....well, unsavory empty threats I won't be in the future."

A small pause, watching the route slowly rotate in the air, key points along the route lit up and sparkling.

"I have attempted to do business with a Senator in Royal Republic territory as well. Their business acumen needs work."

Head turned, iced blue eyes taking in the woman.

"You intend to monetize the Five Veils route?"

Makai Dashiell said:
"You intend to monetize the Five Veils route?"

"No. Wend Maricon is already seeing to that."

The enigmatic figure behind the Cortessan Finance Group was behind the recent events which saw the Five Veils Route become of interest in the new High Republic. Despite doing business with the megacorporation by way of operating under the veneer of the Tarsai Vigil, Her had never spoken with or even met the figure behind it all. But in spite of this there was something to be admired there. The revitalization of the route itself was to bring forth commerce and trade to the Southern Systems, and as the first begin the initiatives behind the reviving of the ancient hyperlane, Maricon and their array of subsidiaries controlled by the Cortessan were in prime position to earn an exuberant amount of wealth.

But Her saw the potential for something else, and if she could persuade this man to assist her, then it was not credits that made her crimson eyes glow a little brighter-- it was the avenues of entry into the territories of people she sought to control... manipulate... and ultimately bring to ruin.

"The Five Veils Initiative has, however, given me ideas. There are many other sectors and star systems afflicted by the Planetshift who would be interested in their own initiatives regarding hyperlanes that are either dispersed or outright destroyed by the astronomical anomalies that have come about this year."

Her smiled politely to Makai as she brought up the SPACERS GUILD emblem onto a holographic projector, explaining: "The Five Veils Initiative would not be possible without the existence of the Spacers Guild of which they inherited by way of the Naboo. Creating our own organisation which I would name as the Intergalactic Spacing Guild would allow us to explore, create or restructure areas of the galaxy for the purposes of commerce, trade or traveling. Like Maricon, as the first to begin these projects, we would be in prime position to create lots of wealth..."

Makai quietly listened, observing the holoprojector as needed. There was truth to wealth in the hyperlanes. With the shifting of the galaxy and the loss of many routes there was a lot of credits to be made. Either in remaking the old lanes or forging new ones. He knew of a few initiatives to chart entirely new lanes by various groups. Typically ones with government backing or corporation funded.

Despite the clear benefits, he was growing cautious. Maricon and the Cortessan Group would never be a company he collaborated with. If he had enough credits to waste, and wasteful it would be, the half-Galan would buy the company just to run it into the ground. Seeking means to gain a controlling stake in order to do just that had crossed his mind more than once.

Yet it seemed a great deal of energy to waste on something that shouldn't be given his time of day.

"After the space station disaster on Alassa Major, my family was threatened by one of their representatives after I wouldn't accept their terms. Extremely distasteful. I assume they thought I would be motivated at such a ridiculous and outlandish statement. Quite the opposite."

Makai thought the company must be a front for organized crime. It was clear something else had been going on, especially having been warned by multiple of his own contacts. Yet he wouldn't reveal such, wanting to get deeper into why the woman was involved with CFG. Most didn't seem to pick up on the shady undertones, but it seemed this woman was shady enough herself.

Birds of a feather perhaps.

Lips pouting to the revelation that a representative from Cortessan Finance Group had not only made the attempt to meet with Makai Dashiell (prodigy of the great entrepreneur Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau and heir to the salvage king Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell ) but had gone onto threaten himself and their family was bothersome to the undercover Dark Lord. It was a set of patterned events surrounding the enigma of Wend Maricon and their revitalization of the Five Veils Route (through the initiative that they had set up within the Southern Systems) which told Her that there was something far more sinister behind the parent company to the Tarsai Vigil than it appeared on the surface.

Some months ago Ala Quin Ala Quin had barged into one of the Tarsai Vigil's offices demanding the co-operation of the Cortessan subsidiary as the Shiraya-Jedi launched their inquiries into the whereabouts of the Juno Family and the disappearance of the Larkspur Crescent after a Vigil patrol had allegedly illegally intercepted, detained and subsequently arrested everyone on board as they used the Five Veils Route.

Her's own inquiries into the missing ship (which Quin had implicated the Vigil as being the one's responsible for it's missing status and alleged crimes involving the family that had been on board at the time of it's disappearance) only to discover that Hal Juno and his small family were fugitives hiding in Naboo-Republic space who were on the run from Sith authorities found on Cerea after they had become outspoken critics of the new regime after their homeworld was annexed by the Sith Empire earlier this year.

This knowledge, combined with Makai informing Her that someone from the group had tried to intimidate him, created a pattern of events that could not be ignored. There was something distinctly dirty about the megacorp and now it was only a question of how corrupt they really were. The fact that they had allowed someone so connected to the Imperial remnants found in the Outer Rim Territories was another point in an enigma of coincides or incidents that would undoubtedly make the hairs on the back of necks within the Royal Assembly on Naboo stand on end if someone were smart enough to connect the dots.

"I wonder what the Five Veils Committee would make of this encounter," Her voiced aloud as she took into consideration the oversight placed upon the work that was going into the reification of the hyperlane and how such scrutiny, combined with Ala Quin Ala Quin 's investigation into the Tarsai Vigil, would affect the ulterior motives Her pursued discreetly as she constructed a new conspiracy with the likes of Darth Virelia Darth Virelia , Parvati Parvati and The Lord of Hunger The Lord of Hunger all across the galaxy.

As the apparent corruption within Cortessan Finance Group came to the surface, the right players in Naboo space drew closer to the other plot brewing beneath the surface of it all and for Her that would not do for expanding influence and creating the right connections within the Royal Naboo Republic (soon to be reformed into the High Republic) was a vital interest for the Dark Lord of the Sith due to it's proximity and shared border with the Sith Order-- an institution, nigh, an Empire that Her sought to destroy as she pursued the work towards reforming the paradigms of the dark-side back into the tapestry that is the RULE OF TWO.

"I know that you were invited to this function to discuss and perhaps arrange new business interests in Naboo space," Her began to say as she showed understanding as for Makai was really here for which was not to share gossip or rumours concerning a megacorporation that he had come to despise but rather to learn more about the InterGalactic Spacing Guild stipulated in the invitation sent to him to attend the Second Convocation of Sojourn.

"But seeing as are talking about Wend Maricon and her group I would be fascinated to learn the name of the person who threatened yourself and your family and what it was that they were trying to get you to do on Alassa Major?"

Wearing | Gear : X | X | X | X | X | L3-37 | Interacting With : Her Her

"A man by the name of Drowe. Appeared to be a lawyer or similar representative. Drowe wanted us to take credits for the space station accident in exchange for our silence. I assume taking the credits being offered so quickly without an investigation meant strings were attached. I am not aware of any corporation who willingly offers credits so close after a disaster."

Makai didn't elaborate any further. They both knew any corporate disaster was typically an investigation followed by an insurance payout. Personally drawing from their own coffers was rare. Nearly unheard of. Either way, it wasn't an event that was going to bypass Aina Holdings. An investigations team had been hired and Aina Holdings as well as Dashiell Incorporated were devesting from any ties with the Cortessan Group. Quite a bit of work but just in time for the summer intern season, no doubt a boring job for some unfortunate university student.

"I doubt this will worry any committee, especially since our investigation is ongoing. I cannot fathom a boardroom who would make brash decisions from one potential interaction, no matter how true and a bit concerning. Either way, I am surprised this has not happened sooner. Turmoil in the galaxy has given rise to more unsavory companies that do not follow the basic corporate principles. Even the Sith have more professionalism."

He paused slightly.

"If you're going to ask me to invest in the Five Veils, it will only to be to pull the Cortessan Group under."

"I had other ideas."

Her did not want to press the issue any further. Makai had told her enough. There was an incident on Alassa Major involving a lawyer who represented the Cortessan after a space station had been destroyed and they had gone onto threaten the prodigy before her in an attempt to acquire his silence. Now he was pursuing his own investigation behind the group, which combined with Ala Quin Ala Quin 's search for the Larkspur Crescent, was set to bring more scrutiny to the company and it's associates which included Her themselves.

"The InterGalactic Spacing Guild, as I imagine it, would go onto form its own initiatives regarding new hyperlanes that it would charter in the Outer Rim systems," Her explained to Makai as she cleverly moved the conversation back to it's original premise. "If you were persuaded to be on board with the project then it would bring legitimacy and your expertise regarding the practices of galactic commercial markets and trade routes. Unlike the Five Veils Initiative ours would be free from the corruption that we are seeing in Naboo space. It would be above board because it would have to be."

Redirecting the holographic map (that was showing the Five Veils Route beforehand) Her brought up telemetry of a different quadrant of space located in the Outer Rim systems. There the emblem of the Imperial Confederation was emblazoned across six star sectors previously found in the collapsed Empire of the Lost. "Unlike these Republic types in the southern systems, the Imperials do not tolerate corruption. With this burgeoning market for new hyperspace travel emerging I have acquired contacts within COMECI who would help facilitate a plan to create new routes in Imperial space. We would sell them the technology, telemetry data and obtain rights for tolls, taxation or use through the new lanes that we would create with the Guild that I propose we form today."

"If this is of interest to you then we can talk about the logistics..."

Wearing | Gear : X | X | X | X | X | L3-37 | Interacting With : Her Her

"Such a Guild is out of my scope."

Makai didn't chart hyperlanes. He left that to his wife and mother-in-law to handle, even contracting them for his own uses. Aina Holdings, even Dashiell Incorporated, focused more on raw materials if one were to distill it down. Salvage. Metals. Ores. Minerals. Agriculture. Raw products that the galaxy ran on and required but chose not to think about daily.

"It is an interesting idea, although I believe you're wrong to consider Five Veils a threat or competitor. Too much corruption and much like the Galactic Alliance, the Royal Naboo Republic is quite hands off business. The government will not be pressed to intervene unless it damages reputation or stops the flow of credits to the royal Houses."

Taking a sip of wine, Makai stepped closer to the table, closer to Her.

"This Imperial Confederation... Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen is one of the leaders, one of the higher ups is he not?" A rhetorical question, they both knew the answer. "I distinctly remember his stance on business a scant two...three years ago. Quite the hardline rhetoric he was pushing. Forced the creation of the Corporate Interest Guild."

A group to protect and advance the efforts of businesses both big and small, driven by the anti-business stance the Dark Empire had at the time.

"Why would I join in an effort when Sularen has proven he is willing to fuck businesses over when the opportunity arises?" An eyebrow raised, a serious question this time. "My business, my morals do not bend to the whims of an uneducated madman. Sularen has been proven to be hostile to my very way of life."

There was an element of truth to this. When Ala Quin Ala Quin brought forth the Larkspur Crescent incident before the Senate regarding a missing ship that had been illegally detained by the Tarsai Vigil, the representatives of the 'southern systems' which made up the then Royal Naboo Republic turned High Republic had been lax to say the least. The urgency of the Shiraya-Jedi was something Her found herself thinking about often in those quiet, solitude moments between worlds as she traversed the Mid Rim into the Outer Rim systems.

Perhaps the Five Veils Oversight Committee was just a formality allowing the likes of Wend Maricon and their mega-conglomerate to act with impunity until, as Makai explained, it began to affect the bureaucrats who ruled the Republic.

"Karl Von Strauss," Her replied as Makai brought up Sularen. It was a fair and accurate concern considering the practises of the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Confederation and former despot of the Dark Empire but one that could be easily explained today.

"Strauss is a Director in one of N and Z's subsidiaries. I know the man rather well. He would not allow such politics to interfere with commerce and business relations. In fact I believe he founded the commission to separate the likes of Sularen from these types of matters. Military types often find conflict with the likes of you or me. In any case I know that the Exarch has the Umbrella Corporation's interests in mind when it comes to Imperial space, and they are most interested in my ideas. We will be safe from institutions like the Corporate Interest Guild."

Makai did his best to keep a neutral expression. Which he probably failed at, if feedback from his wife was any indicator. He didn't feel positive or negative about the project, he merely saw it as a rival to the High Republic and their current grip on the Five Veils. For himself it was of little concern - business would still continue. As he had mentioned, the High Republic ignored him in favor of courting Jedi and Royal Houses. All the better to allow him to work unfettered.

"I am a member of the Corporate Interest Guild." Makai gave a small smile. "Unfortunately this won't be working out. Perhaps in the future our paths will cross again. Best of luck."

With that, his time on Sojourn was finished.
