Ocean farming.

Not his main focus, if he was honest. His passion lay more with marine geology and mineralogy than anything in the agricultural realm. However, his entire mother's side of the family owned a fishing business. He had worked it time and again as he grew up, appreciating the hard work and effort it took to feed people. Even something simple as kelp juice was an effort.

Yet he was aware in ten to fifteen years agriculture would become his next big focus, his next big push. Didn't mean he couldn't dabble and do side projects. After all, diversification was key. As he told Myra Arceneau Dashiell Myra Arceneau Dashiell , he was the 'little guy' in all this. Yet beyond the ocean farming, he was exploring kelp farms for other purposes ; fuel and environmental restoration. Fuel he was slowly nailing down, environmental restoration was another. Between himself and Ellie they were beginning to focus more on restoring worlds just as much as making credits.

Aquilaris Minor would be a good playground for future projects and experiments.

On the anchored platforms, he waited patiently for Miss Raaf. Makai imagined she was busy, having authored the bill for the corporate expansion in Sith Order territory. He had invited her to get ideas and guidance. It was his first time working for this government. Makai wanted to get it right, keen to having a decades long relationship flourish.

Agriculture was typically not within the realm of her expertise. Admittedly, it was typically far down on her list of interests as well, besides the gardens and grounds of the various homes she and her family maintained. Mass agriculture and hydroponics were not something one of the Dark Council would get herself involved in, but as the meeting had been arranged as part of her investment and development plans, she was hardly in a position to refuse it. Her schedule was quickly filling up with potential meetings with business partners, but like with Danger, she would always take the calls from the Dashiells for opportunities.

Which is why Taeli found herself arriving at one of the anchored platforms off the coast of one of the low-lying islands that were the landmasses of Aquilaris Minor and reading through a quick briefing datapad on the planet's points of interest and how they operated from one of the Seacropper's Guild leaders. Even though the world was within the 'home' sector of the Sith, it had been neglected from development by the Sith on nearby Jutrand as the focus had clearly been on rapidly building a military-industrial complex. The meeting with Makai and Aina Holdings would be looking to kick start a massive revitalization of the local fishing and harvesting industries, or perhaps other projects depending on what the young businessman had in mind.

As her shuttle landed and she descended the ramp to see the younger Dashiell waiting for her, she would offer him a pleasant smile and greeting to match the balmy weather, "Makai, wonderful to see you again."

Patiently, Makai enjoyed the ocean breeze as he waited for Miss Raaf to arrive. He didn't have to wait long despite not minding. This type of planet was his type of element, with obvious reason. Despite what one may believe or not believe about the Sith territory, one had to admit Aqualis Minor was quite beautiful and peaceful.

Attention was caught by the landing shuttle and he moved to meet his intended guest. Despite the ocean waves and stiff breeze, the platform didn't even sway as the shuttle landed upon it, a testament to the building done by the Seacroppers Guild before his arrival. He had many questions regarding not only the Guild but also the friendliness of Sith space. With the Dark Empire breathing down the necks of galactic corporate entities, he didn't want problems on two separate fronts.

"Miss Raaf, a pleasure to see you again. How have you been? How are Miss Yvarro and the children?"

"I have been well, Makai, and so has been Fiolette and the family. But please, Makai, you may call me Taeli."

It was a subtle gesture, one born from the desire to build respect and further comfort and connections between her clan and his. She was already friendly with Danger, through Makai's wife side, and she wanted a sense of familiarity to be evident. Even though today's discussions were to have an economic impact upon Sith-controlled space and she held such a high position in the government, she wanted there to be no question in her desires to forge a better situation.

"Fiolette was wondering what your family's plans for Life Day might be. We're having something of a get together for family and friends on Dosuun, and we wanted to extend an invitation, but other plans were made, that would be perfectly acceptable."

A touch of small talk formalities, of course, and then to business.

"Of course...Taeli."

He said the name of the woman as if it was foreign. He had to refrain from putting 'Miss' in front of her name out of respect. Not only was she older than him, but she had a high position in the Sith controlled-government. Aware this was a business meeting made him feel this way but he was also aware the woman was close with his mother-in-law. It only made sense to have small-talk, to bridge their time together as both business and something more personal.

Of course, Taeli Raaf Taeli Raaf could be trying to get a read on him as a man. If her government was opening themselves up to outside business, then it was wise for someone to be keeping an eye on those who were coming to set up shop in their controlled space.

"Life Day. There's a loaded question." Having a dislike for Life Day, he found himself suddenly in charge of figuring out some traditions he and Myra Arceneau Dashiell Myra Arceneau Dashiell could pass along to their daughter and other future offspring. "I am not sure. I am in charge of creating traditions for the family....I am also unsure if we could attend, Myra and I. The pregnancy has caused her to be very sick and she's starting to get to that point where she's quite rounded and uncomfortable."

Spending time with other high-powered couples with children was something he was searching for, so he hoped Miss Raaf would understand. It seemed every corpo in the 'verse was single or had older children, and as he entered the next phase of life, part of him wanted to have connections with those who could understand running a corporation and deal with colic.

"I will ask her and get back to you. If not, I am sure Persephone or my father would love to attend. Part of the Dashiells may be better than no Dashiells, us Dashiell men are fairly interchangeable regardless. Once our daughter is born we would definitely love to have a get together for sure."

"Of course, of course, and if there is anything I can do to ease the pregnancy for Myra, you merely have to ask. I may have done it once or twice myself you know," she would reply, giving the younger man a soft smile born of having multiple children. A diplomatic outreach, but also one that held a mother's desire to see someone get through the issues any pregnancy can create safely and having the power and know-how to deal with situations. She wouldn't want Danger to go through losing her daughter or granddaughter so soon after losing Alric, nor would she want either Myra or Makai to make a hard decision depending on what sort of sickness might be plaguing the young woman.

"But to business. I'd like to introduce you to Arlinn Relinor, representative for the Seacroppers' Guild on Aquilaris Minor. She and I are both interested to hear what your proposal might be for operations here and elsewhere, depending on your goals."

Under her quiet guidance to rework how the economy and industry of the Sith Empire worked, besides corporate expansion and investment, she was working to revamp and expand the power of the guilds within Sith space to better organize efforts across multiple sectors of the economy. This was merely one of her first stops.

"I appreciate it. We've relocated seaside and that has seen some improvements. So the genetic lottery has given this little one a little more of my aquatic genes or she's merely a demanding one. I'm thinking the latter." If he had learned anything, Arceneau women could be a force to be reckoned with. He had a feeling this would be no different. "Thank you. I'm sure we'll take you up on the offer next pregnancy. Don't want a repeat of this time."

On to business, Makai didn't expect to meet someone from the Seacroppers Guild today. A surprise and a welcomed one at that. As they approached the woman, Makai outstretched his hand to shake hers in greeting. Both Miss Arlinn Relinor and Taeli Raaf Taeli Raaf wanted to hear his ideas on agriculture in the area. Several were mind and relatively easy to implement with little massive infastructure changes.

"A pleasure to meet you Miss Relinor. I'd be interested in hearing about the work you do in this region. However, I'm aware you're wanting to know some of my ideas. As a broad overview, I am wanting to establish kelp farms floating on the ocean surface. I've played with the concept on my own on a small scale. General ocean farming - farming fish using the ocean itself, contained in netting-like cages. Looking through the lens of a farmer, the costs are lower. There's less upfront to invest in than say...a boat. My grandparents run a small fishing boat and taking into account repairs and time on the water hunting fish...there's a better an easier way."

"Most of our current operations are handled through our harvester stations and along the ocean floor," Relinor replied, "Many of them are geared towards seafloor algae collection and seafood harvesting, so to expand something like to the ocean surface would definitely lower costs, especially if we utilized the existing platforms and harvesters as a base."

It was her job, as representative of the Seacroppers' Guild, to ensure that their farmers and fishermen were protected and had their needs met. Their current infrastructure was important to the health of the planet and to their economic livelihood.

"We would want to make sure that any new facilities or farms or fishing ventures established by your corporation would employ guild members, of course, and..." she would look over at Lady Raaf before continuing, "we would like some investment into our facilities. Times have been hard lately and we're falling behind on maintenance on some platforms."

Taeli knew that the apathy and, admittedly tacit approval of such, from the Emperor had created an unstable economic footing as Empyrean only cared about pushing things forward through war and conquest. Her desire to stabilize things had only crystallized after the Battle of Sluis Van, and this would be a good first step. This meeting wasn't really for Aurora, unless the fuel ideas from the algae found something useful, but she wasn't purely here for her corporation.

"I would recommend Capital Cay, the planetary capital and site of its primary spaceport as a good hub for you, Makai," she would add. "But what would you need from the government to accelerate the establishment of your ideas here?"

Makai listened to the requests. All seemed very simple and easily doable. In fact, some were actionable enough to do within the next month to sixty days, depending on how parts could be sourced and how the Seacroppers wanted to proceed. In many ways, much of the business he was planning to do on he planet would be shaped by the Guild.

"I like the idea of using the harvester platforms and yes, I can agree to repairing and commissioning the build of new harvesters. If you could have someone from the Guild make a list of repairs and wants in order or priority and holomail them to myself Aina could get the ball rolling as soon as materials are sourced."

He paused, gaze drifting out to the ocean for a moment.

"Is it possible to enter a contract exclusively with the Seacroppers Guild and only hire Guild members? Do you think you have enough resources and enough members in the Guild to do such a thing? Could more farmers be drawn in? I'd be interested in your thoughts on the matter."

Makai turned to Taeli Raaf Taeli Raaf then, going for a more blunt approach as to what he needed.

"Capital Cay sounds great. As for what I need from the government, not much. Just the basics of not getting attacked, feeling safe enough to bring my family here, confidence int he fact the Sith won't turn on the good hard workers of this planet. Its a concern I have with every government I work with Miss Raaf."
