The Roche Trials

To those that helped me by pointing out any errors or omissions, I thank you. You no doubt understood I was just offering a point of view and asking for some clarity. Again, many thanks.

To those that misrepresented what I said and saw this as some veiled attempt to defend anyone? Well, I don't have the words. But an American-Cuban writer does:

You know when I was FA of the Republic we actually had a court system in place which described how cases would take place.... shame someone deleted all the content I wrote for this faction.

Edit: hit enter too early.

Honestly you dont need to over-complicate this thing. Just have the trail set forth the facts IC and then have the faction vote via a public poll (to ensure people don't vote twice and that people like me who are way too inactive to have a say don't vote to skew results) and then have NPC jury vote in the same ratio that the vote ends up. I imagine OOC it would be less Drama that way.

Many people are contending that this affair is entirely in-house, and shoudl be handled as such. Sadly, that is not true. We have dead Mandalorian NPC's, as Larraq has said many times that the civilians involved were of many nations. Our dead PC, [member="Aaralyn Rekali"] is a Mandalorian, whos' father is a Mandalorian. She was also a Jedi. And yes, she was actign a republic ally of sorts in this invasions. However, her father, who has leadership within the Mandalorians, is unlikely to stand for a closed trial with no oversight or involvement from their people. That is the political, IC reality of this situation.

If we are truly serious

In the spirit of full disclosure, my character in the invasion, Vorhi Alestrani, is targeting Ali Hadrix based entirely on the hearsay of a bunch ghosts screaming in his ear. His actions are those of a lone vigilante, and don't reflect much on Mandalorian or Republic matters. However, his actoisn resolve in the thread in question.

However, as someone who has done lots of inter-faction diplomacy for other major factions, we need to show some level of deference to the Mandalorians. Failure to do so will bite us in our backsides quicker a than a rottweiler on a kid with steak in his pocket.

That works well too, Cai. I like it.

Trust me when I say, I know and fully understand what you're saying. Hence Janira doing what she's been doing.

Krenis can stand in as a fairly neutral participant as both a Mandalorian and a Republic officer with gallant service for both parties. Granted, several centuries ago and only recently getting re-involved, but still something. That way he can stand in for both parties and balance the two.

Sith Lord Mandalorian who sacked Contruum and Chazwa won't be showing up in person.

That said, not involving them at all, I know Draco sees anything short of extradition or the death penalty to be a sham. If she walks, at least two clans will keep hounding the Republic, regardless of evidence or public opinion.

Calling Mandos as witnesses or requesting data from them would be completely in line with the spirit of the thing, so long as both sides get access to the data and the witnesses are under oath.
Draco has seen the footage and has copies of everything, including supplying a copy to a Jedi Master without it ever leaving the Jedi Master's sight.

Has anyone mentioned bringing a Mandalorian representative in as a neutral observer (not a testifying witness one way or the other) to ensure that he or she don't see any shenanigans going on? Someone without a specific vendetta, that is? It does directly concern them, and I do think having one on-hand would be in our best interests, long-term. Otherwise they can cry foul all the way to the danger zone.

Ali has been labeled Dar'manda (A Soulless Traitor to be exterminated with extreme prejudice) by one of the most respected, Republic/Jedi sympathizing Alor's there is. You will be hard pressed to find a mando that can enter a room with her and not try to kill her

So in other words...there won't be a fair trial? Or if the outcome isn't to your favour the verdict won't be respected? What's the point of it then?

Well, as a Sith Lord, Draco could care less about the Rule of Law, and while I don't speak for Ember's writer, Ember lost his kid and saw with his own eyes who was responsible. While the rest of the Mandalorians may respect the outcome of the trial, I seriously doubt the two of our characters would. It just doesn't make sense for a Sith to go "Oh, well the Republic had a trial, I guess that's the end of that."

Long and Short, someone is going to be displeased ICly with the outcome of the trial. You can't make everyone happy in politics.

Nope, you can't.

Because it's what we're morally obligated to do as a lightside faction? Because it's right? Same reason I told you on skype that we shouldn't vent atmosphere on a civilian station no matter what the reason?

*rolls eyes*

Such a contradiction. Not every point that I made on skype was even heard or listened to. Of someone wanted their character to die, that's up to them. Genocide has happened many times. Innocents have died by invasions and doms that many here took part in and it was the victims that got the blame. Yet there was no call for the deaths of those responsible. Makes me wonder why this one person is singled out among all others. Seems like a set up to me.

So if it's a sham trial, no matter the outcome...it makes no sense at all for it to even happen.

It's not a sham trial. I felt the same way every time this has happened. Well, I'm done letting us do the things the bad guys do. If that's a problem, fine. But it's YOUR problem, not mine. This Republic is the only sham I've seen around here. That's why Gen did what she did, from an OOC perspective: to give us the chance to do what's right. But that isn't happening. Instead we are telling people they can't affect the outcome just because they are a senator and they should all be on Chazwa, not at Roche, and that they can't level accusations just because they are a junior senator. So yeah, I have a problem, but ironically it isn't with Ali at the moment. Her writer created a story which I and others are playing off of. I have a problem with the people who want to tell us how to RP and if we don't do it their way then it's clearly a sham.

I'm continuing this with or without your approval because it's what the REAL Republic would do and it's what my character would do.

One of the things I have always enjoyed about Chaos is that there are IC consequences for IC Actions. Whether the Republic goes after Ali Hadrix or not, the Mandalorians will.

But the Republic must certainly show that they have a position on the actions taken by the Supreme Commander.

The courtroom would be liberally seeded with ysalamiri to prevent Force use from anyone within 100 meters of the building.
I'm sorry, but, now please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure that's how math works when using ysalamari. I'm pretty sure that's like taking two 5-hour energy drinks to get 10 hours of energy...

A single bubble measured up to 10 meters in diameter; large groups of ysalamiri could extend their collective bubble by kilometers, but only in great numbers
