RED DEMON OF MYRKR
Tags: Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner

Continued on from here.

A report marked as non urgent, crossed Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner ‘s desk six months later. It was a report based upon the findings concerning a hijacked freighter from Naboo.

An agent of the Knight Obsidian’s order had been sent to investigate the hijacking of the freighter and they traced its signal to a planet outside of the Confederacy. To a planet called Myrkr. They had lost the signal when it had entered the planet’s atmosphere, so they had begun to question the citizens. Reports had led them deep into the forests, where they had stumbled upon the old burnt out village and there in the middle, they had also found the freighter. No information could be recovered from the wreckage, as the explosion had destroyed the data and left not a trace behind.

However…

The KO member had made a mention that while they had only been out there to look for the ship, they had heard sounds of a haunting howl. Fearing the prospect of ghosts, they had fled but not before continued questions of the citizens revealed an interesting fact. They had uncovered that not long after the crash a beast had been sighted and anyone caught near it would end up dead. The agent mentions that the residents were calling it the Red Demon of Myrkr and most tended to avoid the forests if at all possible, because they feared for their lives.

At the end of the report, the agent made a side note that maybe it might be worth their while to investigate, as they had lost contact with a certain KO member around the same time of the crash.

A member called… Redd.

Attached to that report, was a medical report. One that had first been created upon the night that Gerwald had a beach celebration for his promotion...

——

Paws did not make a sound as the red wolf’s large frame navigated the forests of Myrkr, it moved with an ease that seemed at home within its environment. A home that it had begun to establish ever since its paws had touched upon the fertile earth, earth which now shifted under the wolf’s weight with each step it took. However, it did not fear the others that occupied the area, for the wolf had established its dominance a month after it had crashed upon the surface. Teeth had torn apart throats, while claws had shredded bellies. If anything human related dared to lay eyes upon it, the Red Demon killed them. It did not want word to be relayed back to anyone that might dare to connect her back to the Confederacy; for it wished to remain within the wild, untamed forests that it now called home.

Slowly, her movements slowed as its nose dipped to smell the scent of a lone deer that had passed through the area an hour ago, but she had already eaten and was heading towards a stream that flowed close by. Red fur brushed up against a bush as she pressed on and she felt the gentle breeze of the morning ruffle the beast’s coat. The forest was also coated in a light dusting of water, for the night had brought a light shower to nourish the area. An area which brought forth the rich smells of damp fertile earth, fresh foliage and the gentle smells of herbs and flowers. Such strong smells could easily disorientate a wolf, but this one had been living within the forests for quite some time and had easily acclimated into it. Especially considering that the forest was the home of her birth place.

Finally the beast’s paws came to a stand still, but not before the Red Demon’s front paws entered the small stream as she dipped her head to lap at the cool, refreshing liquid.

The report sat on Gerwald’s desk as he stood with his arms behind his back, staring out the window. Naboo was green and lucious. Everything about it was beautiful. Since relocating to the planet, the lupine had not found anything about it he would consider lovely. The world was as beautiful as the stories had said, as beautiful as Naedira had said.

That did not keep Gerwald from wearing a sour expression on his face.

The Red Demon of Myrkr. Reports of the beast had reached his ears, and he had sent a Knight to investigate them, and locate the ship that had gone missing around the same time his sister Redd had disappeared. For those who knew her like Gerwald did, the reports were disturbing for one reason only.

Redd was the Red Demon.

Gerwald finally sighed as he began to turn away from the transparasteel window. He rubbed his temples as he moved to the desk and pressed a button to activate the built in comm.

“Ready my ship. I am traveling to Myrkr.”

This was his responsibility. It was not about a stolen ship or an errant Knight Obsidian. This was a matter of family. It was a pack issue. Gerwald’s pack may have been unorthodox, and full of all kinds of shifters that were more than just lupine in nature. That did not matter. He was still the Alpha, and it fell to him to right this wrong.

“Tell the pilot to be ready to take off as soon as I arrive. There is no time to spare.”

THE HUNTER OR THE HUNTED?
Tags: Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner

The red wolf lapped at the water for only a few licks while her ears listened to the surrounding area for any kind of threat that may try to take the beast by surprise. She listened for any tiny snaps of twigs upon the ground, or the subtle rustle of low hanging leaves where a body might brush up against them when the wind had died down. The wolf listened for the heart beats that might indicate a being that was larger than a small bodied creature that inhabited the forest. She also listened for the whisper of material that might indicate a Hunter, as they prowled Myrkr with their many different weapons in hopes of finding The Red Demon. The demon that had taken up residence within the forest and made it so then no one could tread within her territory without her knowledge.

Her territory was vast and most times the wolf spent long days simply traversing the forests, while she memorised every tiny detail that she came across. The Red Demon was thorough and she never minded the dull lull that her days would sometimes be, as she walked for miles upon miles. It was rare that the wolf would take time to rest and when she did, it would be in a cool and dark place away from prying eyes. So then if they dared to come across her resting place, all that they would see in the dark, would be the glow of golden eyes. Eyes that would reflect the dangerous hunter as they peered back at the unlucky soul. No one lived to tell the tale and only once had she let one go so then they could scream, to send a warning to the rest that the forests were no longer safe for them. To avoid them if they treasured their lives, but lately the wolf has sensed through the force, the presence of multiple hunters trespassing through her territory.

Perhaps it was because whenever a danger presented itself, they sought to destroy said danger. However, they were not dealing with a normal wolf and nor were they aware of the fact that The Red Demon could channel the force.

After one more lap, the wolf exhaled and its breath disturbed the surface of the water. Ripples scattered across the surface as she lifted her large head and scented the air. The footprints and half eaten kill, should have been a big enough clue for the hunters that sought to try and get rid of The Red Demon from their planet. Quietly, the wolf entered the stream, then she doubled back, all the while staying within the stream. The water rushed past her as she padded upstream and the liquid soaked the red fur, but that wasn’t a great deal of a problem for her. She did, after all, have a thick coat that covered her entire body and it did keep her warm even in the midst of deep snow. So a little water that soaked the fur upon her legs and occasionally flicked up droplets that would cling to the tips of her fur upon her belly, was of little to no concern. The only reason that she did this was to throw off the hunters, as the water’s general flow would seek to push granules of dirt and sand over any footprints she would leave behind.

So why wasn’t she doing this to mask her scent? Because they had learned very early on that hunting dogs were ineffective. They would get confused or would begin to attack their owners. Behaviour that was way out of character for such creatures, so they left them behind. Less trouble for them that way and so she doubled back.

No one could hunt the hunter in an environment that she knew like the back of her paw and the hunters’ pattern of hunting her, had become quite predictable that she knew her prey better than they knew her. Which meant that the moment a booted step fell upon the fertile earth, her steps would halt and an ear would flicker towards the sound. Low tones drifted through the normally quiet and serene place and she knew that they had decided to follow the clues she had graciously left them. The wolf had even left clearly defined prints for them to follow towards the stream. Within her still posture she listened for the sounds of their heartbeats and she picked up five; five clearly defined heart beats, which meant five targets to kill.

Deep within, the beast felt the thrill of excitement, as her golden eyes would almost gleam with a dark need to kill. Did she care? No. The wolf had lost all sense of such an emotion when she had pulled herself from the wreckage and had found a dark hole to heal and bury her humanity in.

Gerwald had changed in transit. His more casual suit was traded for a simple pair of sweats, loose fighting clothing for when the moment came that he would need to shift. The lupine knew his sister. She had come to this place to get lost in the wolf once more. News of her loss, the pups, had reached him, but Redd had chosen to leave rather than receive comfort. The person she had hoped would be that rock her was nowhere to be found. Gerwald could not blame her for wanting to return to the wild, to the world she had known before he had found her.

The ship landed on a stable patch of soil. It was a fertile planet with a lot of growth. Gerwald knew why she had chosen this place. The pilot was ordered to find a place close to the wreckage of the stolen ship. His hope was that Redd had not traveled too far from it. She could have been anywhere, and with the sheer number of Ysalamiri on the planet, Gerwald could not use the force to track her. There was only one option.

He left the clothes near the wreckage, once he had located it. Gerwald was well out of the pilot’s field of vision. A few seconds was all it took to change from man to wolf. His nose began to search for Redd’s scent. Once he had it, the grey canine began to run in the direction it took him.

His muscles felt free. The dirt between his paws made him feel alive. Part of him wished he could simply give into what the beast wanted, but Gerwald was a man with responsibilities, people to lead. Despite his desires, the Lupine also had others that relied on him. Today, this was about family, and he hoped he could convince her to return. Even if she wanted to remain a wolf, it would be much safer on Naboo, or Stewjon.

A howl rang through the woods as Gerwald came to a place where scent moved in several different directions. If Redd was near, she would know it was him. The sound of another wolf was not something common on Myrkyr.

BATHED IN BLOOD
Tags: Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner

She listened to the sounds that surrounded her. The rustling of the leaves as the wind played their invisible little game that lightly tugged and ruffled anything light enough. Birds, high above in the treetops sang and danced upon the playful breeze while they flitted about their carefree day. Little woodland creatures scurried along the ground, seeking for the little nuggets of food that would satisfy their hunger; while other woodland creatures would scurry upon strong trees, only to busy themselves with building a home and a nest for their potential young. All the while a wolf stalked its prey upon quiet paws and with slow movements so not to alert the hunters that they were falling right into her trap. It was quiet movements and cunning that had seen to her ability to be able to flank around behind the five men and golden eyes watched from the thick bushes as they followed their target’s clear footprints that had been left behind only moments before.

The Red Demon listened to the whispered words they exchanged. Some took note of the broken twigs and while another tracker pointed out the clear paw print. Another even paused long enough to pluck a tiny amount of fur from a bush that she had brushed up against earlier. ‘It’s not too far away,’ mentioned one of them as they noted that the paw print was still soft around the edges. She smiled inwardly and pinned her ears back against her head with pure enjoyment. Soon they will break off to cover more ground and scout around the stream, the wolf thought to herself as she envisioned being able to pick them off one by one without them even noticing her presence.

However, the plan always had that one variable that was unexpected and this one surely was unexpected.

A howl split the midday air and the hunters jumped, spooked by the sound. Their heads turned back in the direction they had come and The Red Demon shrunk back into the thick bush and crouched low so then her large form would not be so visible to the untrained eye. The wolf growled low and took stock of the new complication that had arisen. One that saw to the human half awaken, if only briefly to the familiar sound. Gerwald? Came the softest of sounds and the red wolf recoiled from it. Why was he here? It was a question that was quickly shoved down and she watched the hunters change direction. Their words upon their lips suggested that she had led them astray and they were right, but what they hadn’t realised as they ran past her hiding spot, was that there were now two wolves. They were quickly backtracking towards the sound of the other wolf and The Demon snarled. Her trap had been foiled and now it would be a bloodbath. A scene that would see one section of the forest drenched in blood.

Quickly, she lifted her nose and the sound travelled from a deep place within. A haunting sound that had left many citizens upon Myrkr with haunting nightmares of a beast that hunted them even safe within their beds. A haunting howl that reflected the terror and darkness of a beast that had lost half of itself with a savagery that had split the wolf in two. The Red Demon has lost half of itself upon Naboo and it had never recovered from the deep mental wounds that had been inflicted. Instead it wrought it’s pain upon others and terrorised them with it to the point they cried Red Demon in their sleep.

Her humanity had been lost, but she knew that if Gerwald was here, then there was a chance that he sought to resurrect such a thing. Was it possible? Could it be done? She didn’t want to stick around to find out, but first she had to kill those that sought to uproot her from Myrkr’s forest.

The hunters had been startled by the even closer howl and were now moving to turn their backs to each other to form some kind of circle as their eyes were now peeled to the forests surrounding them. It was a formation that would be difficult to break, but she had the force upon her side and the wolf channeled the energies into her paws. Which meant the moment she moved, she would be a blur to the naked, untrained eye and with that, The Red Demon became a red blur that seemed to move faster than a normal being. Almost as if she had somehow managed to slow down time, when in fact she was simply moving faster than their real time reaction speed. When she broke from her hiding place, the hunters had no time to react as her sharp teeth found the throat of one human and the final thud of his body dropping, was the only indicator that one of them had already fallen prey to The Red Demon.

It then lunged for another as they began to turn and her teeth savaged another’s throat, but by this time they had finally turned to face The Demon and slowly their weapons began to rise up. She spun upon her haunches and thrust her large frame at yet another hunter whose throat was ripped open by powerful jaws. At this point, their weapons were at wolf height and slowly their fingers began to squeeze the triggers. Digging her back paws in she launched forwards to shove her body into a hunter while her jaws snapped around the wrist holding the weapon. She whipped her head around with enough force to yank the man to the ground. Once there and his now useless hand had dropped his weapon, her jaws ripped open his throat.

A bullet whizzed past her head then and she felt her fur slightly singe from the heat, but instead of running, she turned to face the final man with a snarl. The Red Demon had already killed his fellow hunters and he had missed his only chance at killing her. Whether or not he put the weapon down was irrelevant, this hunter was going to be a dead one very soon and golden eyes focused upon the human. She could only imagine the sight she must look like as each one of the bodies had managed to soak her red fur in their crimson blood. Indeed, she must look exactly like The Red Demon they so feared right in this very moment.

A new scent filled the air as Gerwald ran closer to where the trail seemed to be leading him.

Blood.

The smell of it was fresh, almost as though he could feel its warm temperature as he breathed it into his lungs. His legs carried him faster. If the stories of what he had heard were true, Redd had just killed those who had been sent to hunt the Red Demon of Myrkr. The force was of no use to him on this world, which was why he ran as a wolf. More ground would be covered in a smaller amount of time. Redd would also not allow Gerwald to get close any other way. Even then he was certain she may not let him entirely. If she had wanted him to follow, she would have told him.

He arrived to find the scene, fresh. She was there, covered in the blood of her prey. From the sight it seemed as though they had attacked her. Gerwald knew she would not be caught off guard so easily. His presence must have disturbed her hunt. It was evident those hunting her had not known the truth. They were not the hunters, but the hunted.

Redd had long been a lone wolf without a pack, a thing which made one of their kind unstable in certain ways. Gerwald had embraced his humanity to avoid the pitfalls of what came when left alone and isolated. Redd had always embraced her inner nature, the beast, and became something fierce as a result.

Ice blue eyes looked at the one he had called sister. He had been aware of the loss, her pups were no longer with her. It was a thing Gerwald would never understand as he was not designed to carry or care for the unborn. Despite this, he had felt them through the force the night of his promotion, and while it would never be the same as the connection a mother had to those in her womb, Gerwald could not help but be saddened by the fact he would never feel that sensation again.

His head dipped as he whined. She would know why, and Gerwald hoped it would be the thing which would make her find that part of her which would accept his presence.

BROTHER?
Tags: Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner

It was almost like a stalemate and her golden eyes stared at the man. Not a blink broke the eye contact and she watched the man’s hand begin to quiver at the realisation that he was alone. He had no one else and yet even if he tried to make a break for it, the man would likely die. The only other choice was to fire and hope that he didn’t miss, yet he had already missed once and The Red Demon was quick. Faster than any normal wolf that the man had ever seen. However, even as she watched the cogs turn within his head, she knew that she would never spare him his life. The citizens of Myrkr had to know that she would never spare their lives, especially if they sent hunters to track and kill her. Such an act would never be allowed to stand and a message had to be sent. One that was crystal clear to any that would finally find the bodies of the slain.

Quickly she lunged forwards just as his hand shook away with terror and while her movement caught the hunter’s attention; he couldn’t squeeze the trigger fast enough. Redd’s jaws snapped around the man’s hand and with a quick, powerful twist of her head, she flipped him and snapped his wrist. She heard his screams of pain, but her front paw pressed against his chest as she rose up above him so then she could relish in the sweaty scent of terror. Then and only then, did she sink her powerful teeth into the man’s throat, only to rip him apart and feel his blood spurt free from the gaping wound.

The wolf could still taste the adrenaline that had been pumping through his veins within his blood and she lifted her gaze just when she smelled another scent. A scent that was incredibly strong and unforgettable. She hadn’t killed them fast enough, which had given the other wolf enough time to close the gap and locate the red wolf. Of which she felt great dissatisfaction from such a fact. The human within stirred and she snarled at the grey wolf’s presence. He always had a way of bringing her back from the beast that lingered deep within themselves and yet she felt a great deal of resistance this time.

Of course she never wanted to return. She wanted to only deal with the animalistic part of herself and she knew why.

Being human hurt. It took all of the emotions and amplified it, whereas being a wolf only focused upon the kill or be killed aspect. Survival of the fittest and so far it had been a retreat away from the pain and loss. The wolf had helped her to forget about the tragic loss of her pups and the mate that had ran away at the first possible chance he got. In that moment, Redd had felt so much and it had torn her up to the point where she couldn’t think past the grief and emotional turmoil. The act of killing and dominating her own territory upon Myrkr, only served to help her to forget; until Gerwald had appeared before her with his head down low. A fact that was ever present and as long as he didn’t appear to be a threat, she wouldn’t actively seek to kill the other wolf.

His presence upon Myrkr did raise some questions however and although she wanted to know, The Red Demon still had work to do.

Golden eyes watched the grey wolf for a brief moment, before she dipped her head and her jaws sank into the dead man underneath her paw. Slowly she dragged the body into the middle and she repeated the action with the rest of the bodies until she had a pile of bodies, but even after all of that the question still remained. Why was her brother here?

Such a question only served to turn her gaze back to the male, just before she turned to pad away from the scene. The impact of such deaths, only served a greater purpose if they thought that just one wolf had killed their hunters. Of which, she did and it also meant making sure that no one else saw the new arrival.

Gerwald was fixated on the red wolf. The bodies which littered the ground did not phase him. None of them belonged to Knights that were under his watch. Redd would have hopefully known better than to attack those that would garner the eye of the Confederacy. Even so, Gerwald was not there on behalf of the CIS. Her actions, the stolen ship, already had the eye of some, but the lupine used his own sway and pull to make the matter one that he could personally oversee. He had suspected Redd when the reports first came across his desk. Now they were confirmed.

His eyes surveyed the carnage, though found it odd the wolf grug the bodies into a pile. That was not the act of a crazed wolf that could only think about killing. There was something of her humanity which was still in her.

The lupine followed Redd wherever it was she was going. He knew that the other wolf resented his presence and did not want him there. Unfortunately for her, Gerwald was not going to leave, at least not until she heard what he had to say. He doubted that she would shift, so once he was confident that they were not near any danger, his mind went to hers.

<<“You’ve retreated into yourself… the pups?”>>

Gerwald already knew. He could not feel them within her any longer. This was not the time to try and convince her to come home. First and foremost she needed someone, another of her kind. Without him, she would retreat so deep into what she had been before they met that it would truly overtake her this time. Being human, it hurt yes, but Redd could not forget everything that she was. Even if the pain drove her to it.

PAIN
Tags: Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner

Redd’s nose lifted to scent the air and finding that there were no other scents which would indicate more hunters, the red wolf moved on. Her body moved about the forests with a knowledge that had taken time to cultivate. Her padded paws did not touch fertile earth, instead they touched anything above that layer. Rocks, tufts of grass, fallen leaves and from time to time the wolf leapt from log to log. Such movements were designed to avoid trackers from tracking her and from time to time, the wolf would angle her body just so in order to avoid her fur catching upon any and all surfaces. The Red Demon would be the only one to be the accomplished hunter within these parts and any trace she left behind, would be a deliberate action. One designed to lure any and all into a death trap that she had laid out for them.

The wolf was quite aware that she had another tailing her and for now, she didn’t pay it any mind. So when she dipped her nose and paid attention to the old tracks of a Ysalamiri in the dirt, she heard Gerwald within her mind. He made a comment, only to follow it up with a question that struck a painful chord within her and the wolf froze. She then became so quiet that one could almost pass her off as a life sized statue that had been covered in blood, however the wolf had forgotten all about the loss of her pups. Had instead focused upon everything to do with Myrkr in order to bury that pain and slowly she closed her golden eyes just as her head dipped a little.

Gerwald had ripped open an old wound and she felt it as if the event happened just yesterday. The pain radiated from deep within her chest and the feeling of grief soon followed. This only caused her ears to lower to either side of her head and she licked her nose to taste the coppery taste of the dried blood upon her muzzle. ’Gone.’ She finally said after the drawn out silence was too much to bear.

Was her brother here only to cause her more pain? To rip open the wound and cause only more grief? Such a question caused a rush of anger to flood the wolf’s body. Anger at the fact that he had seemingly come to dredge up a past of where she had been a complete and utter failure. Red ears were pinned back against her head that rose up from its lowered position. Golden eyes opened and The Red Demon turned around to snarl at the male who dared to bring up such a failure. ’But you already knew that didn’t you?’ Redd accused and took a step towards the grey wolf who served as a painful reminder. ’I lost my cubs. I’m a failure as a mother because my body could not sustain and protect the small lives that had been growing inside me.’

Another step brought her closer still as she continued to bare her fangs at him, until her thoughts fell upon Haastal and she dipped her head and looked away. Her next words were barely a whisper within his mind, but still audible. ’And most of all, I failed as a mate. So much so, that he left. Probably to find another that can sustain life.’ Redd said softly only to turn away from the grey wolf so then she could continue on her path, one that led them towards a small lake in the middle of the forest that she knew of. The red wolf would be back later to sniff out and kill the Ysalamiri later.

With that thought, the wolf manoeuvred around a tree where paws would soon be enveloped in soft grass which led the two right up to the small crystal clear lake and her paws stopped at the edge. Golden eyes peered into the mirror like surface and saw the reflection of a beast staring back at her. Not only that, but she saw the hidden pain and anger within those golden windows as clear as day. ’What do you want, Gerwald?’ Redd finally asked as she turned to face the other wolf once again.

The trail led deeper into the woods, though it was his question which made them stop. It had struck a chord with the red wolf and only confirmed what he thought. It was the reason she had left. She was always running from the things which she needed to conquer. The pull to be a wolf, to be the hunter, it was natural, but for her, Gerwald had always seen it as an escape. It was her way of refusing to face the things which would only make her stronger if she would defeat them. She thought she was the hunter, but in this moment she was the prey, and her demons were closing in.

“Yes, I knew. I wanted to hear it from you.”

It was all he could manage before the wolf was in his face. Her fangs were out, but Gerwald refused to react. She could try and attack if she wished. Her anger would even be enough to give her an advantage. Gerwald was still bigger and he was still stronger. Her advantage would only last so long before they would be on even footing once more. Fortunately for her, she backed away.

“Have you ever thought that the issue may have been with your mate? I am not an expert on such things, but my mother said we had to be picky. I always thought it was because she wanted to guard our secret, but maybe it was more?”

There were many reasons why Redd could have lost the pups. Battle could have been a factor, an injury that he body could survive, but the pups could not. She had fought and worn her armor since Gerwald had learned of it, perhaps that was the case now. Either way, Redd needed to realize this was not her fault nor her failure.

“What do you think I want,” his thoughts came as he sat back on his hind legs. “You stole a ship from the Knights Obsidian, crashed it, and have been killing enough people that the reports came to my desk. If you didn’t want me to find you, you certainly have been making far too much noise for that. I came to bring you home. I don’t care how you come, wolf, human, but you do not belong here, not alone.”

Gerwald had seen what being alone had done to her before. He would not allow that again. If she wanted to remain a wolf, that was fine, but she would come back to Naboo.

REDD
Tags: Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner

Slowly, the red wolf closed her golden eyes as she did not wish to peer upon a reflection that only reminded her of a haunted beast. ”My mother always told me I’d mate with another Lupine from my pack. Sometimes parents can be wrong.” Growled the wolf in soft tones. She didn’t want to return to more pain and grief; to return to a life that didn’t seem as if she could fit in. A demon wolf was still a demon wolf and no matter what she did, she always seemed to be the one to be in the dark and alone. What was the difference to being in a faction where there were many people surrounding an individual and not feeling as if she could find a place that truly accepted her for her; it was a place where people would always give her a wide berth, just because her natural behaviour was to appear aggressive. Compared to actually being alone in the wilds killing, because that was all that she knew or was even remotely good at.

”I came here to die, Gerwald.” Redd finally admitted as she turned to face the grey wolf once more. ”There is no place for an orphan wolf, who only knows how to kill. I thought I had it. Someone who actually took an interest in me, who gave me the time of day-“ A sigh resounded within his head as she turned back to the water and her body flopped to the ground. Her front paws felt the rush of water soak her blood soaked fur, while the seeds of flowers scattered upon the wind. Her eyes looked into the reflective water as the ripples created a distorted reflection. A reflection that only displayed half of her face, ”But it was all lies.” She continued and slowly lowered her head to rest upon her front paws.

”My pack died here and so perhaps I should have died back then as well. Perhaps that’s why I cannot sustain life.” Yes, perhaps that was why she had been thrown into the fighting pits. Maybe it was fate saying that she wasn’t meant to live and that she should have died there. Instead, she had refused and this was her punishment. More pain and loss. A lesson, that a wolf was not meant to be anything more than just a wolf; was supposed to learn. Killing had been a great outlet for the pain which she endured from that lesson, but when a monster arose, there was always that one person who could rally the many to overcome and kill the one monster.

Everything that she had done, was a domino and the hunters were the perfect example of the civilians finally finding their backbone. Even more would come; once they find the bodies of the dead hunters of course and when they did, she expected many more than just five.

Gerwald thought that she had come to Myrkr to hide and he was right in saying that she had created too much noise for one who was supposedly hiding. Yet, that wasn’t the purpose of her kills. ”I’m not hiding and I’m not coming with you Gerwald. I didn’t kill those people just for the sake of killing, even though it helped to express my pain. I came here to die, because there is no place for a wolf like me. None.” The red wolf sighed as she lowered her ears to either side of her head once more. ”And I guess I could just kill for your sake, but I don’t believe that I will ever truly belong. I’ll just be a wolf who kills because that is all that I know. That is all that I am good for.” She murmured softly. ”Yes… Just a Red Demon who kills. Perhaps that is all that I should hope for.”

The wolf could not believe what he was hearing, except he could. This had become Redd’s default excuse for everything which was wrong in her life. The pack had died, maybe she should too. There was part of the lupine which was tired of hearing it. The urge to reply with a simple… then maybe you should… was pressed down deep. Gerwald knew he could not reply with such an answer, but he did know what the Red Demon needed was a little bit of tough love.

He snarled in return. The wolf had been aggressive with him, and he in turn was not going to sit idly by while the only other lupine that had been a consistent figure in his life decided she was going to throw it all away.

<<“You don’t know a good thing when you have it do you? Life is about more than finding a mate, believe I know. I was the moron that decided to sleep with two women that were as close as sisters. That mess… it left me lonely and bitter towards the idea of love for a long time. My own family left me behind. One of them is now a wanted criminal as far as the Confederacy is concerned. Naedira was the first person in my life that ever made me feel as though she wanted to be around me for who I was, not what she could get out of me, and what happened? Duty. She died protecting the Knights on the ship… I was on that ship, occupied elsewhere…”>>

Gerwald had known that the topic of Naedira was sensitive for Redd. The lupine had not been aware that Redd had seen him as a potential mate. His heart had been closed for so long to the idea of another, and even now, with the realization that even if Naedira were to return she may not want him in the same way he did her, Gerwald could not imagine a future without her in it. It had never been fair to anyone that Gerwald had allowed close, but he did not let anyone close without their knowing where his heart had settled.

<<“I have learned something, in everything I have been through. Life is for the living. Despite every loss or abandonment I have faced, I still breathe, and therefore I must still live. I have told you many times that you are more than a wolf that kills, and I will continue to say that. Until you choose to accept it for yourself, however, you will never grow. We are wolf, and we are human, we do not have to option of separating ourselves from the other, because every emotion you are trying to hide from and run from… the humanity, it follows you even as a wolf.”>>

The wolf backed down and took several steps back.

<<“I am sorry that you lost the pups. It breaks my heart. I have no memory of our kind as children other than my own. This would have been a new thing for us both. I am sorry that it turns out Hastaal was no better to you in the end than a turd dangling from a rancor’s rear end. That is no reason to seek death. That is no reason to see yourself as nothing more than a killer. When are you going to realize that you are so much more?”>>

He sighed, a small canine whine escaping his mouth. Gerwald was not going to force her to return with him, but he was not going to leave until he was convinced this was what she truly wanted.
