Private The Purpose of Disguise

Can it be dangerous? That in and of itself was a weighted question. And the answer was a complicated one. Not only that but it could be a lengthy one too, if I was to divulge everything to him. However he is a Jedi and as such I must be cautious. I know that they are not supposed to be a people of ill intent; however they could look at me in such a way.

He asks me to trust him. Yet the man is a stranger. And just what he intends to do with the information after he had gotten it, I am uncertain. Would he tell his higher-ups? Would they seek to gain control over my research and destroy it? Would they seek to destroy me?

"
My research is only dangergous in the wrong hands. Much like everything can be. But I have promised to never sell my research. And I plan on upholding that promise." I shifted ever so slightly in my seat, still keeping my body straight and poised. However I was slightly uncomfortable with speaking to somone about what I had done to myself. "I do not believe that my new skillsets will be a copy of your own. And there are....side effects to accessing those skills that I did not expect. I have not documented them all for I have been trying to be cautious in using them. It is not exactly though there is an Academy for me to learn from.

Have you come across one like myself before?"

As Liin began to speak of how the serum could be dangerous if it were in the wrong hands and assuring that she would also never sell their research. It was interesting, to say the least, and Vex was curious as to why this woman even came up with the idea for such a thing. Regardless, the Master Jedi leaned forward in the seat slightly, looking over at Liin with a serious expression upon their face. "Selling it is not the issue because that I can believe. The issue here is, what happens if someone forcefully takes it from you? Do you have a plan for such a situation?" He responded calmly, hoping that Liin could see the severity of the situation.

Once Liin began to explain how the synthetic force is different from Vex’s, which was a bit worrying, to say the least. The Jedi Master let out a slight sigh, before beginning to reply to Liin’s explanation. "For you, I fear things can and will get dangerous, since you have nobody to keep an eye on you. The side effects could be deadly. Is that something you are willing to risk?" He asked curiously with a brow raised. Vex was worried that if Liin wasn’t careful, this serum could be the end of her or others. Maybe this was a sign to keep an eye on her, even if she didn’t like the idea.

Liin was also a bit curious as to if Vex had seen anyone else like her, and all the Jedi Master could do was shake their head lightly. "No, and I think that alone has a cause for worry, don’t you think?" Another question came from their lips, not only wondering what this serum was capable of, but how dangerous it could really be. Regardless, Vex was not going to panic any time soon. It was his duty to remain calm during all types of situations. This case was odd, but he would treat it like any other.

His questions and statements caused a lump in my throat that I needed to swallow down. Not only that but I could really use a drink. When I responded to the first one; I did so in a manner that almost felt as though my voice was detached from myself; when really my mind was drifting towards the various scenarios that have occured, as well as those that could occur in the future. "I did not create a series of vials of the serum. There was only a few. One I used on myself and the others are scattered and hidden away in different locations. Much like my research notes are. I have decoy laboratories in various locations that will hopefully buy me some time to keep ahead of them." I did not want to imagine anyone trying to force the locations out of my mind. I have not yet come across anyone with the ability; but I have heard that they do exist.

I rose to my feet and approached a small cupboard that carried wine glasses and a bottle of dark wine. I took two glasses out and poured the wine in each of them while I responded to his next question. "
Things have already gotten dangerous; ever since parts of my research was leaked and a bunch of people descended onto my first hidden laboratory. Jedi, Imperials, Sith, Mandalorians and the like; all of them with their own agendas. I feel as though eyes are upon me all the time. Or rather they are seeking me out." I take a sip of my wine before turning and carrying both glasses with me. I held one out for him; unsure of whether or not it was to his taste. But it mattered little for I had enough on my mind to easily consume both glasses full.

"
The side effects are mostly physical; such as headaches, dizziness, nosebleeds and a strange static sensation. Although sometimes it gets worse," I sit myself back down before continuing, "much worse." I recall the tidalwave of side effects from the static shockwaves that I sometimes release. They start out small like misfiring circuitry and flickering lights. However the further away that it goes, the worse that it gets; causing timeline echoes and bleed-throughs, distortions in gravity and more. "The less of those like me that are out there; the better." My brows furrowed with concern for my own self. "I only wanted to elevate myself to be more equal. Nearly everyone that I have met have been Force Wizards while I was not. And so I was treated like a second-class citizen and disregarded quite often. But now that is not really the case any more...."

Master Vex Drakkon continued to sit in the seat comfortably, while having a civil, yet serious conversation with Liin Terallo. Never before has Vex heard of such a thing and now that it has come to light, the Jedi Master felt that it was his duty to keep an eye on the situation no matter the cost. Would the Jedi enjoy the fact that Vex was associating with Liin? Probably not. But this could lead to something more important than just a synthesized serum that gives the user special abilities, much like a Jedi. It was indeed something that needed Vex to thoroughly investigate without the council knowing.

As Liin began to explain that she did not create the serum but instead, the woman found one of a few that was known to exist in the galaxy. This was a major letdown, causing Vex to feel a slight tremor in the Force because of what he was being told. "Do you happen to know where the other serums are located and are they secure?" His tone went from calm to instantly serious in a matter of seconds. This was a worrisome matter and the Jedi would not take it kindly if this serum were to end up in the wrong hands. It would cause Vex to expose Liin and come up with a plan to put an end to it all.

There was still much to learn about this serum and Liin for that matter but Vex was worried that this serum might end up in the hands of a manipulative being. Someone who could potentially break down the ingredients and create their own version. Vex would do whatever it took to make sure that would not happen. But as the woman rose to their feet and made it over to obtain some alcohol, Vex leaned back once more in the seat, knowing that this conversation would be a long one. Then as she spoke, revealing how things have become dangerous in the past. Without responding, the Master Jedi reached forward to grab the glass from Liin and took a long sip of the dark wine.

With the new information Vex was learning, he could only begin to fear for the worst. Not only was Liin wanted for their research, but the serum was also in danger of being in the hands of the Imperials. This couldn’t happen, Vex wouldn’t allow it, unless it was already far too late. Before he could respond, Liin began to explain the side effects, which all of them were not good signs at all. Vex continued to drink from the glass until it was empty, listening to the female go on about wanting less of her kind around, and the fact that Liin wanted more in life. Not being a Jedi, while nearly everyone around her was, it could have made her jealous, wanting to be just like them.

Regardless, Vex Drakkon glanced down at the empty glass before putting his gaze back on the woman. "What you have done is made yourself a target. It would be wise to gather what vials are left and destroy them before anyone gets their hands on it. As for you, it seems you need protection and training. Not only that, but you still do not fully know what the long term effects will be, so I think it is best if I keep a watchful eye over you for now." He replied, swirling the empty glass around at their fingertips, wondering exactly what Liin would think of their statement.

Did I know where the other vials are? I knew exactly where they were hidden, for I had hidden them myself. As well as partials of my research notes. Never were all of them to be together. Instead they were only pieces of a puzzle; should either one of them be found. "I have taken precautions for the remaining serums, yes. And with my notes being scattered; an exact replica is difficult for anyone to make." That was all done on purpose.

I took a long sip of my wine; one again allowing my thoughts to drift once he spoke of my becoming a target. There was a dream that I had one night before my serum was complete. It was of some ancient being warning me that I was creating not the Force, but of a cage whereas I would be the first to be locked inside. I had dismissed the dream for a time, that is until what it had predicted became real. I had created a cage for myself, although instead of being inside it; I am continuously running from it.

"Destroy them? But what if I need them for myself? Destroying them now would be premature. I have more research to do that I could use them for; one which could possibly nullify it's effects." I took in a steadying breath and let it out slowly before uttering a phrase that I had stated dozens of times before. "I just need more time..."

I raised my right eyebrow, both out of curiosity as well as concern when he stated that he would be keeping an eye on me. "So you plan to be tailing me, then? And what of those that you work for? What will you be telling them?"

Master Vex Drakkon listened carefully to the first statement Liin made about the serum being difficult to duplicate, which was nice to hear, but it was still a very dangerous project that could end up hurting many people. Regardless of the situation, he glanced over at the female once more before replying. "This serum may be difficult to duplicate, but that does not mean it is impossible." He spoke, while looking forward at the empty glass in his hands. Vex wasn’t trying to scare off the woman, or cause her to do something they might regret in the future. Instead, he was genuinely looking out for her because it was the least he could do since Liin decided to save his life earlier.

It wasn’t always easy being a Jedi, especially with the decisions that were made throughout the process of it all. The things he had to give up, emotions he had to set aside for the better judgement of the Jedi in general. Vex would never regret his decision, nor would he ever think of how things would have been if he was never turned over to the Jedi. He was content with his life, finding peace and joy through everything he experienced. The Jedi were his new family, one that he would forever be grateful for having.

As Liin began to explain how she could possibly nullify the effects of the serum she had hidden away, Vex looked back in their direction, trying to make sense of it all because this was not your normal situation. In fact, a synthetic force user was extremely rare, and something to be cautious about at all times. "I understand, but are you willing to keep risking your life to possibly have rare abilities? What if this serum slowly eats away at your brain? There are so many different variables that could makes things go from bad to worse in seconds." He stated, hoping that Liin would understand exactly what she was up against.

With a nod of their head, Vex answered the first question Liin asked. "More like a bodyguard. I know you think it’s not necessary, but I feel that things could go badly if you’re alone." He replied. There was obviously no stopping Liin from their research, so Vex thought it would be best if he stayed with her for the time being. Just to make sure she would have a good handle on the situation. "For now, this is our secret. But if things get out of control, I may have to let the council know of this." He added, while setting the glass down on the table next to him.

He was right. Just because my serum was difficult to duplicate; it did not make it impossible. Even without the extra vials, one could possibly take blood and tissue samples from me to help in recreating it.

He then asks me about inherent risks and possible damage to my brain, the latter of which I did study beforehand. The conclusion on that from was that while my DNA has been slightly altered; there has been no damage done to any vital organs. Still, the prospect of losing my life was something that I had already calculated the odds for. They are extremely high. But it is not as though I have any responsibilities or reasons not to take the risk. I do not expect to live into a ripe old age, and so I do not make any plans to do so.

At the mention of being my bodyguard, I took another sip of my wine. That kind of situation never panned out well for me. And surely that trend would continue. "
If you are to be like a bodyguard, then I request that you pretend to be my cousin being sent by some overprotective grandmother. That at least will not backfire on me, nor cause me a lot of embarrassment." When I was in politics, every bodyguard that I had gave people reason to spread the rumors that I was in a relationship with that person. My lack of any kind of lovelife helped others to create their own for me. And that eas embarrassing. People just cannot wrap their minds around me satisfied with just being married to my work, instead of pining for gentlemen that would not even look at me.

"
And what do you think that the council would do? Would they seek to put me in a cage like others wish to do?"

Master Vex Drakkon wasn’t surprised that Liin would come up with some sort of story to why she would have a bodyguard, so he gave the female a soft nod at their request of him pretending to be a member of her family. It didn’t matter who he pretended to be, because Vex wanted to make sure that not only Liin was safe in the end, but to also get as much information about the serum Vex could. The dangers that lie with that serum could be deadly in the wrong hands and Vex had zero intentions of letting that happen. "I am merely here to protect you and the knowledge you have. But a disguise is wise because as you can tell, I am a Jedi." He revealed the lightsaber hidden under the Sarka robes he was still wearing.

The moment Liin brought up the Jedi Council and wondered what they would do if Vex were to give them this delicate information, the Master Jedi looked over and grinned at the corner of their lips. "Firstly, they would ask you questions, then obtain your serum, and likely destroy it. As for you, I would say that the council would ask for you to be trained, even at your age. As you know, we are known for bringing in younger Force Sensitive beings for training. It’s very rare that we train those above a certain age, but I think your case will be quite different." He added, hoping that his response would give her some sort of relief about herself. As for the serum, Liin may not like the fact that it would possibly be destroyed.

"But.." He paused for a moment, thinking more deeply into the situation at hand. The force was not giving any signs of what was next, but that didn’t mean Vex was just going to back away. He wanted answers and the Master Jedi wanted to make sure everything he learned today would stay between himself and Liin. The protection of Liin herself and the serum to create synthetic force sensitives was and will always be the most important thing as of now. "I feel like it would be best that we get out of here soon. I’d like to know more about this serum and what it can do. And would you be open to taking me to some of your laboratories?" Liin had a lot to risk and Vex as well, but this situation has become extremely important in just a short time.

The fact that he agrees to pretend to be a cousin of mine brings me quite the relief. I have used this tactic before with another guard and it had worked. I do not believe that anyone had believed that there was any sort of romantic relationship between us, thankfully. I have enough to deal with already.

Hearing that the Jedi Council would want to acquire my serum to destroy it is rather unfortunate. And I would not give them the opportunity to do so. This could be my life's work; and I cannot fathom being a willing participant of it's destruction. They would need to take it from my cold dead hands. And I can say that about anybody that is after it; whether they were Imperial, Black Sun, Jedi, Sith or anyone else.

I finish my wine and set the glass aside. He asks to see my laboratories so that he may gather more information. I can tell that he is still assessing me, still assessing the threat level of my work. But at this point I am more inclined to grant his request, for I cannot have even more Jedi looking to find me.

"
Most of my laboratories are fake. They are decoys set up to buy me some time and to send people to a different direction. But yes; I can take you to it. It's location is only temporary, however. I will be moving it again soon." The last thing that I need is for him to give away the location to the other Jedi.

I rose to my feet, smoothing out the wrinkles in my dress' fabric. "
You can follow along behind us in your own ship if you would like."

Vex listened carefully to what Liin was saying about the labs she created to potentially hide the serum that synthesized the Force itself. The thought alone of what could be done with the serum had Vex worried, but it was his duty to remain calm, which he did so that Liin wouldn’t notice the emotion bubbling at the surface of the Jedi Master. "The main goal of this situation is to ensure the serum is safe and untraceable. In the wrong hands, this serum can change the state of the entire galaxy." He stated as a pure reminder of what could happen if the serum got into the hands of the Sith.

When Liin finished their drink and stood from the seat, she told Vex that he would be allowed to follow behind in their own ship, but the Jedi Master declined with a slight shake of their head. "I don’t mind traveling with you. It would save us all time." He suggested, standing from the seat and readjusting their Sarka robe slightly to regain comfort. There was still so many questions that evaded the Jedi Master’s mind and it all revolved around this synthetic serum that had the ability to give one the ability to unlock the force within.

I had thought that he would not want to leave his ship behind. But so be it. More than likely he did not trust that I would not somehow give him the slip. Yet what good would that do if I had tried? Surely he would tell his Order about it and then I would have even more people trying to hunt me down.

At least the Galaxy is a large one.

"Very well," I exclaimed. "As for the state of the Galaxy; it is constantly at war. I doubt that my research would change that." Perhaps now it would not. Just so long as I can keep it under control. But once my research is complete it could help change things for the better. Still, I am not fond of the attention that it has given me. Nor the fact that so many seek to gain control.

I step away from the Jedi and move towards the cockpit to inform the pilot that it was time to leave. I could not pilot any craft on my own, so I have always hired them instead. And then I take my seat nearby. The pilot begins his flight checks to prepare for departer. I can only hope that it all goes smoothly.

"Perhaps it is time that I move my laboratory once again. You can help me to pack, Master Jedi; since you insist on tagging along." I just hope that he does not steal anything.
