GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: "The Philosophies of the Universal Code, Enlightened Authority, and Autonomy" usually simply referred to as the Philosophies of Orega Lorr
  • Format: Originally printed in book form, few of which exist, mostly now exists as a holo-book.
  • Distribution: Printed Book: Rare Holo-Book: Common
  • Length: Long
  • Description: The Philosophies of Orega Lorr is a series of essays compiled into a book arguing a worldview and philosophy of an old philosopher and rogue jedi known as Orega Lorr.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: Orega Lorr
  • Publisher: Mostly self published in the beginning, but in more recent years several companies have begun minor holo-net publications.
  • Reception: It was published in the days of the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic, who mostly tried to bury the book for its unorthodox view of the Jedi and their responsibilities to the galaxy in large as well as its extremist views that contradicted much of the Republic's society. Since the fall of the Empire the book has formed a small cult gathering around the galaxy with a few minor dictators attempting to use it as justification for their rule.
FORMAT INFORMATION
The book itself is divided into three sections. Section 1 is made up of 11 essays on what Orega Lorr dubs the "Universal Code", which is her take on morality and what exactly it is. Section 2 is made up of just 3 essays on "Enlightened Authority", which deals with when a government could be considered legitimate, what exactly a government is, its roll in society, and what kind of governments are the most efficient at their job. Section 3 is made up of 7 essays and deals with "Autonomy" or free will, how it should be used, whether we even have it in the first place, and the dangers of it.

CONTENT INFORMATION

Universal Code: The "Universal Code" is a objective morality stance (Ie. Morality is fixed and non malleable) on what exactly is moral / immoral. According to the Universal Code, Morality can be defined as what produces the most well being for the greatest amount of sapient organisms. Basic things such as Murder, Theft, and Abuse are clearly immoral within this stance due to a murderer not only effecting their victim, but their family and society at large by robbing it of a member and possible productive asset, theft disadvantaging one being in order to promote another, and Abuse being feeling pleasure in causing harm which clearly goes against the Universal Code. Orega Lorr argues that evidence of the Universal Code is evident in all moral beings. She argues that every sophisticated society has outlawed murder, theft, and any form of blatant abuse and that is the natural way of things. She also argues that institutions such as un-regulated or barely regulated capitalism and religion are corrupting influences on individuals causing them to forsake the Universal Code for personal profit or dogma and she sites holy wars and the stratified society of Coruscant as clear examples of this immoral behavior. Orega Lorr also argues that those who break the Universal Code are no longer protected by it and are effectively "free game" to "agents" of the Universal Code. Agents are never truly defined, but from what little she says of these "agents" it is guessed she means governments and government employees, but some have interpreted "agent" as anyone who wants to be such as bounty hunters or vigilantes.

Enlightened Authority: Orega Lorr argues that a governments job is to enforce the Universal Code at all levels of society. She argues that the most effective way of doing this is to form an Authoritarian regime providing its citizens with food, jobs, housing, and purpose giving them no reason to allow corrupting influences to pull them away from the Universal Code while also rebuking those who would think to do so, cracking down harshly on anyone who would break the code, and protecting its citizens from other governments who do not follow the Universal Code (she sites both the Hutts and the Sith as examples of these governments). She defines this form of government as Enlightened Authoritarianism or Utopian Authoritarianism.

Autonomy: Autonomy, as defined by Orega Lorr, is one's own ability to make decisions which are influenced by nothing but one's own logic and reason, aka, the natural state of a sapient being "The Universal Code". Emotions and Extra-Personal Influences (she cites Capitalism several times) are corrupting influences on one's own reason and thus take away one's autonomy. She cites that if one is guided by emotions or extra-personal influences they become predictable and she claims that every man she met who was guided by emotions, money, or religion, was so predictable she could predict their whole life and their response to every stimuli even without the aid of the force.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Orega Lorr grew up within the Jedi Order, yet she quickly found herself alienated by their pacifistic "hands off" way of dealing with the republic. After reaching the level of Knight, she would part with the order and flee to the Outer Rim to avoid their wrath. It was here that she published her Philosophies. When the civil war with the confederacy broke out, she followed along with the Confederacy, hoping that they would either align with her beliefs or at least allow it to be published in a more widespread fashion due to the Republic strictly limiting this book's publication due to its "dangerous ideas". The Empire certainly didn't like the book either, and for her beliefs she would be arrested, brought before Imperial Courts, and executed.
