PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Multipurpose
  • Weight: Extreme (Gravity Reduction off) Average (Gravity Reduction on)
  • Resistances:
- Blasters: Very High (Blaster bolts are reflected off the Ultrachrome coating, and if the plating is melted the Turadium is robust enough to withstand blaster fire)
- Kinetic: Average (Projectiles are known to bounce off of Ultrachrome, and Turadium is a durable material, however there is not much room to mitigate the actual impact from the wearers hand)
- Lightsabers: Extreme (Ultrachrome is capable of resisting lightsaber blows, however it will melt uniformly with sustained contact. Luckily the Turadium is a material quite difficult to cut even for lightsabers, further protecting the user from immediate direct harm.)
- Electrical: Average (Ultrachrome is a superconductor that will absorb electricity like a sponge, however, with sustained contact it will melt uniformly after a certain threshold of time. Luckily Turadium is a durable material, otherwise this would be a major weakness.)
- Thermal: Low (Obviously, Ultrachrome melts uniformly, as such weapons that apply direct heat to the superconductor will find it melt rather quickly, and while Turadium is a durable material there is nothing to suggest that will assist the wearer from feeling the damaging heat).
- Sonic: Low (Just as there is little room stopping kinetic energy from harming the user despite the Gauntlet's robust nature, Sonic damage as a pure shockwave will certainly circumvent almost all of the armor on the gauntlet and effect the wearer underneath with ease.)
- EMP/ION: Very High (With the Ultrachrome superconductor surrounding the Gauntlet as a coating, it acts as a Faraday cage for the components and users limb inside of the gauntlet, protecting them from EMP and ion attacks rather effectively.)
- Chemical/Acid: Average (While the gauntlet itself is well constructed with durable materials, it was not designed with chemical or acid environmental hazards in mind, while the gauntlet itself may hold up well, there is little telling what sort of damage the actual user might take.)
- Radiation: None (The Gauntlet offers virtually no radiation protection whatsoever.)

SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • Telekinetic imitation - Through the use of RAW Manipulation Projectors in each digit of the gauntlet, Triam can easily replicate such telekinetic feats as pushing objects, pulling objects, or gripping objects from a distance (objects or people can also be adhered to other people or objects while the projector is active, essentially "crushing" two targets together). With the stasis field, living beings will also find it more difficult to respond against being grappled with these projectors, as their perception of time will be drastically reduced with five projectors trained on them at once. With all five projectors working in tandem on a single object or person, the user will be capable of lifting a single adult human male approximately 16 meters in the air 64 meters away and vice versa for around a minute at full power, however actually moving the target to that theoretical maximum eats up time, so it is unlikely to ever reach that highest potential. Lifting other heavier objects would require some math and guesstimation to figure out, but it can be safely said that lifting anything like an X-Wing starfighter is soundly out of the question with the technical limitations of the projectors and its rampant hunger for power cells. It is also technically possible to target multiple targets at once (five at most), but the individual capability of a single projector is exponentially worse than all five combined, with a theoretical maximum being: lifting a single adult human male one meter off the ground four meters away for a single minute. So, it is advised that if one wearing the gauntlet is attempting to effect multiple objects at once, to keep in mind size limitations (i.e., target small things with individual digits, not people/heavy/big objects). As for the stasis fields involved in the projectors, with five trained on a single object or person in tandem, the targets perception of time will be extremely sluggish compared to everything outside of the projector field.
  • Blade Tossing Digits - Each digit on the gauntlet comes equipped with the ability to adhere small sized blades (and no larger) to the gauntlet. These blades can then be propelled from the gauntlet on command, or retracted to the back of the gauntlet to allow more dexterous use of digits (albeit still far less dexterous than a bare hand). While blades are attached, the only issue would be the inability to use the Manipulation Projectors on any object other than the affixed blades, though it can be a favorable tactic to launch the blades into a 'telekinetic' attack. However, in a situation where manipulating an object is desired and not "attacking" it, it takes a couple seconds for the mounted blades to be retracted out of the way of the digits. This would be troublesome in an emergency situation where one wishes to catch something from falling without injury or damage, and the blades are covering the projectors...
  • Power Cell Storage Pockets - The RAW Manipulation Projectors are notorious for their rampant power consumption, and the ones applied to the Phantom Gauntlet are no different. To mitigate the issue of running out of energy abruptly, the Phantom Gauntlet uses two "strips" of Power Cells lined up together to power each projector, with one strip set in reserve to be used once the first strip is depleted. It isn't perfect but it makes reloading power cells fairly easy. Additionally, it serves as a back up measure if a suit is providing energy to the gauntlet, and that energy supply is severed or damaged.
  • Ultrachrome Coated Turadium Armor - From reflecting blaster bolts to protecting from EMP and Ionic Damage, the combination of Ultrachrome coating and Turadium armor ensures the maximal protection from most damage, particularly from lightsabers. If the Ultrachrome doesn't stop/deflect whatever is coming, or melts uniformly as a result of continued direct application of energy (electrical, thermal, etc.), the Turadium alloy acts as a barrier between the threat and the user with great effectiveness. It is a durable piece of equipment capable of withstanding many different types of pressures, although it may not protect the user wearing it in every case.
  • Gravity Assist - Given the extremely heavy nature of the gauntlet with its heavy alloy armor, ten power cells, five manipulation projectors, and five retractable blade mounts, it comes as a suprise that one would be able to hold it at all. This, of course, is achieved rather ingeniously through the use of repurposed gravity belt technology, used to locally decrease the influence of gravity around the gauntlet itself, allowing a wearer to lift it with relative ease while the "belt" is activated. Additionally, any small objects with extreme weight that can fit into the influence of the gauntlet will become easier to lift merely due to proximity to the mechanism. The mechanism itself produces a constant field that uses very little power compared to the other devices attached to the gauntlet, and just like a prosthetic it can run off of a single power cell a long time without a recharge. Due to this, it has its own dedicated power cell under the forearm to ensure that the gauntlet can be utilized with consistency, and without dependence on the power cell strips dedicated to the manipulation projectors. To extend its lifetime even further, a Kinetic Recharger is attached to this dedicated power cell, so that its lifetime is partially fueled by user movement, meaning it could take weeks of consistent use before the power cell runs down. It also utilizes a biometric user verification system to ensure only the authorized user (Triam Akovin) is able to effectively wield the device and lift it with ease.
Weaknesses:
  • Energy Shields - The magnetic influence of the manipulation projectors cannot reach beyond an energy shield, meaning any thrown melee weapons will be unrecoverable after passing through an energy shield, and targets protected by an energy shield will find themselves well protected from the Gauntlets manipulation. Should the gauntlet itself pass through an energy shield however, the target being protected by it will once again be manipulable so long as the projectors stay within the energy shield.
  • Dexterity or Deadly - As described above, it takes several seconds for any mounted blade weapons on each digit to retract to allow more dexterous use of fingers or manipulation projectors. Although situational, this becomes an issue in emergency situations where one would attempt to catch a falling target with the intention of not causing it damage or harm. The mounts are capable of "throwing" their blades out of the way, but this in of itself is dangerous to anything you would be attempting to save. As such, while wearing these gauntlets with mounted blades, one must make a choice between utility and combat, with their choices not quickly reversed.
  • Power Hungry - The Phantom Gauntlet will easily burn through five standard power cells in approximately a minute at full strength, and even with the reserve power strip in place, it doesn't extend its capabilities by much. Any use of the manipulation projectors is advised to be used in quick bursts, or utilize superior power cells (or a dedicated connected suit power supply) to compensate, more probably both. When connected to a suit power supply, it will take up much of its capacity, meaning a user will likely have to choose between the gauntlet and another subsystem, unless adequately accounted for and designed around (an example would be choosing between the projectors and shield generation).
  • Molten Ultrachrome - Although Turadium Alloy is used to protect the users hand and components within the gauntlet in the event that the Ultrachrome coating uniformly melts around the gauntlet due to a continuous application of energy, that does little to mitigate the dangers of molten slag surrounding one's gauntlet, posing a number of dangers to the wearer's other extremities if not adequately protected for.
  • Disabled Gravity Assist - Surprisingly, the "Gravity Assist" mechanism in the gauntlet is the most vulnerable piece of equipment, so if a strong enough kinetic of vibrational energy were to impact the underside of the gauntlet with enough strength, it could cause a gravity assist failure and return the gauntlet to its extreme weight, making the users movements extremely sluggish if not rendering the gauntlet outright completely unusable.
  • Explosive Power Cell Detonation - With a staggering eleven power cells crammed into the gauntlet in normal operation, the possibility of an explosive chain reaction if the armor is punctured and damages even a single power cell anywhere on the device is extremely high. It will not be a pretty sight for anyone wearing the gauntlet, liking losing their entire arm, suffering third degree burns all over the body, and molten shrapnel being embedded all over the body; it'd be a miracle for an individual to survive unarmored, and lucky if they are armored, that it wasn't worse. It'd be the equivalent of holding eleven exploding grenades in a reinforced tank-armor canister, wrapped around one's arm. With more powerful cells however, it could be as much as a full on artillery barrage or airstrike. Either way, use with caution.
DESCRIPTION

For the longest time, Triam has utilized her first "real" invention in combat all over the galaxy against hundreds of opponents, the Phantom Fingers. Their initial design features were focused solely on one thing: circumventing lightsabers, disabling force user's concentration, and greater ranged manipulation of her opponent and herself. While it served her well, it had a number of weaknesses that reduced its effectiveness for the purpose she had created it for. The physical nature of the cables she used along with their very limited resistance to damage or manipulation themselves, turned the device into a liability when versed against a wiser opponent who knew what they were doing. For years, she simply lived and accepted this liability as just being part of the business of being a mercenary who often squared herself against force using combatants.

While in the solitude of motherhood, Triam spent whatever free time she had on innovating new methods of technological innovation, and she stumbled upon a number of virtuous technologies she heavily re-purposed into usable concepts for a form of combat non-force users were never before able to replicate: telekinetic attack.

With her new knowledge of magnetic clamps and her old research into magnetic field, and entropy field technologies, Triam created a series of "Manipulation Projectors". The technology itself she would eventually sell to the highest bidder of her own moral selection, but some of it she would obviously keep to herself, for her own intelligent use.

One such use, of course, would be the creation of the Phantom Gauntlet. A power hungry device that would give her the pleasure of putting Sith or Jedi pitted against her in their place, by grappling them against their will and thrashing them about as they would have done to her if not for her intelligent use of technology. All the classic tropes of the force would be hers to command; push, pull, crush, and even stasis (an ability few force users were even known for) were all now within her unimpeded capabilities.

For added affect and shock factor, she would give the gauntlet the ability to launch small melee weapons as thrown projectiles, which she would additionally be able to manipulate to some capacity in mid-air. Its appearance alone would be intimidating to the weak at heart with the gauntlet possessing bladed digits. Although, to allow the manipulation of objects other than the blades mounted to the gauntlet, she gave it the capability to store them at the back of the hand to allow both the digits and the manipulation projectors to be free to influence other objects with limited dexterity.

She additionally was aware of the effectiveness of Ultrachrome as armor, with its ability to reflect blaster fire or kinetic projectiles, and its superconductive qualities... but she was also acutely aware of its ultimate weakness in its uniform melting. Turadium alloy though, was a durable enough material she knew even lightsabers struggled against (though not the extent of other more rare materials), and knew the two combined with made a robust armor from all the types of damage she was most concerned with.

Unfortunately, she discovered with her various precautions against power loss, armor, and added blades would make the gauntlet prohibitively heavy, even on her best day. Unless she went through extensive redesigns or removed features from her initial draft, her "Phantom Gauntlet" would most certainly not be weightless like a Phantom, and more like a boulder around one's arm. Luckily, she had a work around for that in her discovery of Gravity Belt technology, which she had already used successfully in her DIG Boots. She created a smaller one that ran off of significantly less power than most other components, small enough she could dedicate a single power cell to it and almost never fret of power loss. There would still be the worry of course, that a heavy kinetic or vibrational impact would disrupt the power cell and cause the gravity assist feature to fail, but she took this as a calculated risk that the benefits of this weight reduction would outweigh the possibility of a failure rendering the gauntlet useless.

Now that she had an impressive gauntlet of technological supremacy, she would now need to design bladed weapons suited to her aesthetic...

Okay so this submission seems to be not all that overpowered, however I need some distributed weaknesses over stuff to make this more balanced.

I need you to qualify that this Telekinetic Imitation has limits. It's not like the force where an invisible energy field is moving stuff for you, rather you are pulling it using the gauntlet. Presumably this means you cannot lift an X-wing.

This seems like a little much to me, I understand it's a strength of the weapon but indefinitely running is too far with all the other pieces of this.

I'd also like you to add another weakness to this, mainly the fact that it would likely be extremely explosive. It has power generators and cells out the wazoo. I can only imagine if the armor was pierce...kaboom.

[member="Alric Kuhn"] Okay so here are the issues:

  1. Telekinetic Imitation and its limitations
  2. Indefinately Running Gravity Assist
  3. Power Cells are explosive, so explosive potential should be very high

Here is what I got for you:

  1. Actually the telekinetic limitations are already built in, it just didn't occur to me I would have to elaborate on those same limitations here since I was referencing the technology being used here. Let me explain how strong this is based on the RAW Manipulation Projector's submission:

    • Weak Individual Power - An individual Manipulation Projector is really nothing to praise the wonders of, in that while yes, it can lift objects on its own and suppress any movement from a target that has its own volition, there is a weight and distance limit to what it can effect, and additionally what it can reasonably slow down. For instance, a single Projector only has the strength to suspend an adult human male approximately one meter off the ground from a distance of four meters, and restrict some movement but hardly touch the targets perception of time. This can be mitigated with more projectors, which exponentially increase the effectiveness of physical and time suspension properties.

    • More Projectors, More Power - Since the magnetization process of non-magnetic objects utilizes magnetic fields to suspend targets in the air, and the inherent nature of the entropy field being unstable on its own, more Manipulation Projectors means more magnetic and entropic fields layered across each other, making both fields stronger and more capable. In layman's terms, the more Manipulation Projectors trained on a target, the higher they will go and the slower they will move and perceive time. At full power and three Manipulation Projectors working in tandem, an individual adult human male can be hoisted more than 4 meters in the air 16 meters away (or inversely, 16 meters in the air, 4 meters away).
    • So with that in mind, five projectors should lift an individual adult human male 16 meters in the air 64 meters away and vice versa (exponential increase per projector), for about a minute, at full power (that minute includes actually moving the individual to that point, so its unlikely to match up to its theoretical max). Now, before we freak out, it should be taken into consideration that 64 meters is about 2/3rds of a football field, so that isn't really a crazy distance and can be visually seen. Now, how that stacks up with heavier objects would probably require some math, but with only a minute of use at full power, I wouldn't expect this gauntlet to lift an x-wing very far at all, if at all. Additionally, it isn't invisible, having a yellowish glow to the field.
  2. As for the indefinite power cell, I can link you to a wookiepedia article on prosthetics that state most run off of a power cell almost indefinitely. Since, however, a gravity belt might be a bit more power intensive, would connecting a Kinetic Recharger I've purchased to it mitigate your concern since its lifetime would partially be dependent on user movement?
  3. Definitely going to add that this gauntlet is like wearing a freakin bomb, that is a lot of power cells. Thanks for pointing it out.

Would those cover your concerns?

Alright, those edits all seem fine to me, and now reading that about the telekinetic limitations I'm okay with it as well. Though honestly this sub is pushing the elements a bit and you might get hung up by RPJs or Admin who disagrees with my assessment of things.

[member="Alric Kuhn"], alright, here are my changes:

  1. Just so that you are informed and don't need to read quite as much, I also elaborated on an estimate of how quickly a target individual would react while under the influence of the Manipulation Projector's stasis fields, as it seems that facet was over-looked in my submission. If that is too specific, I can leave it as extremely sluggish, or if its specific enough but simply too much, I can lower its relative effectiveness, just let me know which you'd prefer. :)

As for pushing the elements and RPJ's having issues with it, what specifically do you foresee being an issue so that I might be aware of it?

Sorry this took so much time, I had family stuff and then a Birthday.

I would ask that you leave it extremely sluggish. In The Factory being overly specific can sometimes be a bit too much, and I think with this that counts.

Also I was more speaking in general concept. When it comes to Technology and Factory submissions in general I have a far more...liberal view than most folk, and I tend to just want people to enjoy their submissions. The RPJ's and Factory Admin have to content more with reports/potential trouble than I do ;)
