Name: The O.C. Militia Unit of Lorta
Intent: To make up fluff soldiers for the O.C. Rebellion of Belsavis vs. the Galactic Alliance
Affiliation: Mostly the Oversector Coalition, but retain a strong identity as Lortans.
Availability: Uncommon
Quality: Typically B though ranges to C.
Type: Infantry, Motorized
Strength: 66, 1 Vehicle
Description: The Lortans were a violent and expansionist group of humans native Lorta, and historically had the capabilities to send twelve battle fleets and other advanced technologies to commit genocide against the Tunroth, in what was known as the Reslia Purge. They were only stopped by the superior might of the Galactic Empire, after which they developed an intense hatred for the Imperial Power. By the time the New Republic came into power, they left behind in the dark ages, shunned for what they had done to the Tunroth whom they favored and helped to rebuild. It took many generations of this lower treatment, that their hatred of the defeated Empire outpaced their hatred for the other alien species in their stellar neighborhood. After hundreds of years, the political landscape of the violent Lortans changed, so that they began to realize the stain upon their history, and a minority among them began to empathize with the horrors their ancestors committed. In the modern age, overseen by Governor Ryker Kel of Javin in the formation of the Oversector Coalition, he has played upon those sympathies and discovered it had grown to such a degree that to deny the genocide happened, was a capital crime.

Once the Governor was able to conference with the renewed civilization of the Tunroth and the Lortans, and was able to negotiate a non-aggression pact between them, as well as separate contracts to protect the fledgling coalition. As part of the deal, Lorta was supplied with food, and technology just as the others received. The expansionist ideals of the Lortans resurfaced, though this time they were directed towards the anxieties inherent in foreign powers staking control over Lorta. Training well in advance for a threat to surface, the Lortans gained a new status among the Coalition as more than the simple butcherers they were in the past. They had new goals now, new interests that served the Coalition, they sought to redeem themselves for their past actions by acting as the protectors of the Oversector. Though Lortans are in short supply, they are more trained than the standard militias, with a psychology that will push them further in battle than an ordinary militia. They are second only to the Tunroth, who have gained a very prestigious status within the Coalition as the Last Defense, where the Lortans have gained a status as the First Defense.

They are equipped with blaster rifles, blaster pistols, ion grenades or thermal detonators, and occasionally shield belts/generators (like the ones seen in the most recent Battlefront). Rarely, they are also sometimes accompanied by a vehicle, whether that be an outdated TIE Fighter/X-Wing, a pair of speeders, or a landspeeder with big repeating blasters duct taped on.

Strengths:
  • Decent Tech Support - Numerous blaster types, ion grenades, shield generators, a vehicle; all luxuries the other Militia don't seem inclined to pay for. It helps them in the longer run having ion grenades to help them take down superior mechanized enemies, and shield generators can be life savers at the right time. Having a vehicle to fall back to also helps them fight against a superior enemy with superior technology when 90% of their fighting forces are infantry... if only a little bit.
  • Psychologically Motivated - Their historic expansionist aggression has not lessened over the ages, and does them well in creating soldiers who are dedicated to a particular cause. They may be Lortans, but they have also accepted that they are Coalitionists, and must do their duty to protect its interest at all costs. Desertation is a statistical anomaly.
Weaknesses:
  • Few replacements - Due to their rather low population of 1.5 million on Lorta, losing even a small number of Lortans is cringe worthy. They are an uncommon unit within the Oversector Forces, and replacing lost units is a slow process, that can be easily outpaced if many units are being destroyed.
  • Low Unit Numbers - Once again due to their population situation, a single Lortan militia is often much smaller than a standard Oversector Milita. Even when supplied with a support vehicle, they have very little in the sense of safety in numbers. They could potentially be overwhelmed by units of even ordinary size. As such, their role is more support oriented.

I've linked what blaster rifles, and pistols they used, and linked the generic shield generator article on Wookiepedia since there doesn't seem to be a specific article on the shield generators/belts seen in Battlefront.

As for the vehicles, I listed them as such since the idea behind it was they don't have a standardized motorized unit, so they take what they can (TIE Fighter, X-Wing, pair of speeders, weaponized landspeeder) and convert it as is necessary for them to make it useful. However, I've added links anyway to some of the generic vehicles I've mentioned.

Does this satisfy your assessment? :)
