Description: Hestan's blaster, commonly referred to as “the One Grandpa” that survived unscathed fifteen wars and lived in perfect health until he was like a hundred and thirty-something, is not a subtle weapon, both in the “sneaky sneaky” sense and in the “fine finesse” one. It started as an old EE-3 blaster carbine Hestan's grand-grandfather had acquired decades before, in uncertain and obscure circumstances, that carved its way into the young Kiffar hands as both a weapon for self defense and a family heirloom when he was eighteen. Being completely incapable of handling a carbine, let alone shoot something dead with it, he chose to work his way around the item to make it more fitting for his needs and skills.
Under his parents' expert and watchful eye, then, he powered down the firing mechanism so that it could still be used with only one hand, albeit with some specific training not to have his wrist shattered by recoil but still play in the heavy blaster pistols' league, and then recased the whole weapon with a extra thick plasteel casing, de facto turning it into an almost completely different weapon that held only few vestigial resemblance of its former shape. In the end, the One Grandpa is a heavy blaster pistol that is centered around the idea of surviving: its frame and case are tremendously tough if compared to its counterparts, meaning it is very difficult to damage, and the inner workings have been reworked and streamlined in order to reduce their essential number. In the very unlikely happening they were to break, then, it is very easy to replace them. Its barrel mountings allow the user to attach a scope to further extend its effective range to almost 30 meters, while the grip retained its stock-mount, wanted the user to have a bit more stability while firing. When it hits, it might not be the infamous Deathhammer, but unless the target is protected by energy shields or extremely thick and heavy body armor it is going to be severely damaged.
This, on the other hand, means that along with its pros, come a host of cons. On a first glance, the fact that the components are very sturdy and tough does not alleviate the one that makes the gun completely useless if even one small thing goes crazy: the less bits, the more critical each of them is. That, however, is more than fine for Hestan as it tends to happen very rarely and in extreme situations like volcanic worlds or the hard vacuum. Going down the list of “nays”, there its abysmal accuracy as it was developed to be a close quarter weapon, its extra weight and its tremendous recoil management. Usually, one high-power shot is enough to completely mess up the firer's aiming alignment, requiring him or her to duck for cover as soon as possible.
In the end of the day, the One Grandpa is not a weapon for sensible trigger-fingers, that would die an atrocious death were they to use it, as they would find it simply too blunt and rough an instrument. As Hestan is not a pistol-savvy person, in the sense that he is intellectually able to make a decent handgun but not capable of feeling the difference between his blaster and a DH-17 as his fingers are used to feel other, much different, tools. In the close quarter corridors or halls of a drifting hulk it is most likely to kill or severely incapacitate whatever it was to shoot and its great weight might even be lessened by moving in a gravity-free environement.
