The Old Republic: Am I the Only Person Who Likes It?

I feel like I am one of the few hundred people that still likes and plays TOR. I am not talking about KOTOR, every Star Wars fan loves that. I am just talking about the Old Republic.

Who else plays/likes it? If you don't like it, why not? If you haven't played it, GO PLAY IT!

Yes. Star Wars The Old Republic. The game that is free to play and is in the Old Republic Era.

Finally! Someone actually likes it. Man I love that game.

I was a recovering WoW-aholic when I first saw TOR's marketing campaign. KOTOR would make any gamer & star wars fan ready to give bioware a shot at a MMO. I got a beta and found out that my computer was not up to the task. People make fun of WoW's graphics, but their graphics allow them to get money from a wider range of people.
Anyway ... I actually went out and spent 1400 dollars on a gaming rig. The irony was that I got in and started the typical grinding and just couldn't acquire the game. I trialed it out, and it just wasn't love at first sight ... or second sight for that matter. I couldn't tell you why but I just couldn't come to like this game. This did upset me because Bioware is my SECOND favorite game studio (that's a big compliment right there).

That being said there is another 'first timer' coming onto the MMORPG scene soon who is actually my FIRST favorite game studio. I can't wait to see what The Elder Scrolls Online is going to be like.

Man I can't wait for ESO. I am a Elder Scrolls nerd. I know almost the complete in-game history and lore. NERD ALERT.

I got into the universe with Morrowind back in like 03 or 04.

MIND BLOWING
They still make great games, but I'm always complaining that I can't separate my torso armor into breast plate, left pauldron, and right pauldron. Oh and that I can't sneak into someone's house and rob them blind EVEN taking the forks and spoons from the table. That game definitely had the definition of 'stole everything that wasn't bolted down to the floor' right.

ESO won't have that level of detail of course, but its good to reminisce. It should be a mind blowing MMO at any rate.

Don't get me wrong, Skyrim was epic. Yet with Oblivion (the prequel to Skyrim) they added voice acting (vs reading txt for everything), but really took out a lot of the details.

When you broke into a house in Morrowind you literally could steal almost everything. Even the forks and spoons laid out on the table (which were almost worthless). Plus armor was broken into nine groups if memory serves me correct. You could mismatch your boots and gloves. :p

To be fair that does pale in comparison to some epic dragon fights, but its good to reminisce like I said.

The game was definitely worth a play through if you find five dollars in your pocket and you have 100hrs to waste.

I've yet to be disappointed by one of their games yet. Bethesda has yet to let me down I should say.

Bioware is a close second though (and back to the original topic) I was disappointed with TOR.

I love all of them. I don't like the spin-offs. Like Redguard and Battlespire. But I love Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. I am also in love with the lore.

On this old RP site I used to go on, I was a historian. I love the lore. DOWN WITH THE EMPIRE! TRUE ARE THE NORDS OF SKYRIM!

Interesting then that in EOS you'll play as one of three factions trying to take over the last remnant's of the empire's land. :p

I quite enjoyed TOR. Probably because I am not overly into MMOs and played solely with a friend, so it was fun making a character, and going through the quests and main storylines (though in this case as invisible additional help) together. I actually wanted to get back into it again recently however have found that whenever I try to sign-in I am told to expect a password, and I just never get one in my email. So I actually cannot play because their system simply will not successfully send me that password.

After getting helped numerous times and told to try every little thing it simply won't happen. So, oh well. I still enjoyed it when I could play it. My friend and I as typical for an RPer would create little character sheets for our characters in game and would transpire through the quests with those character sheets in mind.

In any case my only issues with it is that the F2P is atrocious and so the only way to enjoy it is with subscription (at least in my opinion), and that EA would put on a price on any thing. As well of course the numerous issues the website has (such as my inability to ever receive a password to actually access my account).

I pay for two sub accounts and have a total of 32 characters; 8 over level 50 and 4 at 55 -- steadily working on the rest of them to get to 55. :)
