GENERAL INFORMATION

• Organization Name: The Office of Imperial Sciences (a.k.a the OIS)
• Classification: Government Scientific Agency
• Affiliation: Galactic Empire

• Description: The OIS is the scientific arm of the Galactic Empire, leading the charge in various fields of scientific and technological research and development.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

• Headquarters: Arkania
• Domain: The OIS holds sway over a scattered array of facilities across Imperial Space. Most government-funded institutions and locations fall under their purview. Their main focal point of control, however, lies on Arkania, largely due to the vast Arkanian history of scientific endeavors. If anything seems to fall under the umbrella of ideas relating to the scientific future of the Empire, the OIS has the authority to claim said resources as their own.
• Notable Assets: The OIS has several bases of operations throughout the Empire, but their largest asset is their headquarters, known as Arkanian Research Command (a.k.a ARC). Aside from that, they have been given a considerable amount of resources in order to further their research, much of which has been approved by the Emperor himself.

SOCIAL INFORMATION

• Hierarchy: As an agency that operates within a wide range of expertise, the OIS is broken up into different departments. These departments are as follows:
  
  - Advanced Science Division: The most secretive of the OIS branches, dedicated to the most important and clandestine projects.
  
  - Department of Advanced Weapons Research: The military technology division, focused on creating new weapons and gear in an effort to bolster the Imperial military.
  
  - Department of Artifacts and Anomalies: This particular department often works in tandem with the Imperial Reclamation Service, assisting in the study of artifacts that may prove useful to the Empire. They are also the branch of the OIS that is tasked with investigating and studying strange anomalies found throughout the galaxy.
  
  - Department of Genetic, Chemical, and Biological Advancement: One of the more shadowy departments within the OIS. They are publicly known to focus on medicine, agriculture, and terraforming, but rumors speak of strange abominations and unethical research of a more diabolical sort. They are said to be in charge of the Empire’s chemical weapon research, though none have been able to confirm this concretely.
  
  - Department of Technological Utility: The primary focus of the DTU is to ensure that the Empire remains at the forefront of the technological race, working around the clock to develop more advanced droids and tech for both government and civilian use.
  
  Ranks within the OIS are as follows:
  
  - Director of Science: The overseer of the entire agency. The Director has the final say in all matters relating to the OIS, and only answers to the Emperor and the Grand Vizier. The Director holds a similar rank to the Director of ISB (at least in matters of Science), and often works in tandem with ISB to ensure proper security within the ranks of the OIS.
  
  - Chief Scientist: The lead researcher in all projects within the OIS. They are considered the leading scientific mind within the ranks of the Galactic Empire.
  
  - Senior Science Officer: The heads of each department, dedicated to running their respective wings of the OIS.
  
  - Senior Security Officer: The head of security for each branch of the OIS. Each is pulled from the ranks of ISB in order to ensure proper security.
  
  Beneath the Senior Officers are varying ranks of staff, their ranks largely based on whatever level of clearance they may possess.
  
  
• Membership: There are thousands within the overall ranks of the OIS, though the majority of them are lower level workers and researchers lacking high clearance levels.
• Climate: The overall vibe within the OIS is efficient at the best of times, and tense at the worst. Those lines are often blurred, as each member often feels concern about the watchful eyes of the ISB. The OIS has a highly structured system of security, creating a rather hierarchical environment not unlike that which may be found in an intelligence organization. Those lower on the totem pole often whisper to each other about rumors and theories regarding their work, but none would dare to do so in the open, for fear of what punishment may be waiting for them.
• Reputation: On more loyal Imperial worlds, the OIS is seen as a concrete structure that leans toward furthering the Empire’s progress. On worlds less inclined to believe the propaganda, they are often seen with suspicion, and at times, outright disgust.
• Curios: Members of OIS have distinct uniforms, with their insignia resting upon their right shoulder. Those with proper clearance are given code cylinders, and the highest ranking officers are given a ring to symbolize their efforts in the name of the Empire.
• Rules: The OIS adhere to a similar set of rules to other military arms of the Empire, but with the added secrecy of the ISB due to the nature of their work. They also practice heightened safety and sterilization protocols in an effort to preserve the integrity of whatever they may be developing. Their research is not to be discussed outside of the proper facilities, even if another higher ranking member of the Empire were to ask. No one without proper clearance will be permitted to know anything outside of what is appropriate. The breaching of any of these protocols will result in rather swift and unforgiving punishment.
• Goals: The future of the Galactic Empire is at the forefront of the minds within the OIS. They are constantly working to find ways to preserve and grow the Empire’s influence, as well as ways to help the Empire to further spread Imperial ideals across the galaxy. They care little about how this is achieved (ethically speaking), so long as it pushes Imperial power to all corners of the galaxy.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Efforts to further the scientific progress of the Galactic Empire have existed since its inception, but it was only recently that the Emperor chose to bring them all under the umbrella of a single organization. It was this decision, combined with the recent conquest of Arkania, that sparked the creation of the OIS. Reiner Ghadi, a trusted member of the upper ranks within the Empire, was given a simple mission. He was to create and oversee an agency that would push the Empire to the forefront of the Scientific community, and maintain a level of secrecy befitting of the Empire’s more covert projects. Ghadi’s previous work in the OIT during the time of the Dark Empire made him a prime candidate for the job, and he immediately got to work, turning the various scientific groups within the Empire’s borders into a singular, well-oiled machine of research and production. He worked closely with the ISB, pulling security resources and personnel to ensure that proper measure were taken. Now, the OIS is the premiere organization for scientific development, doing whatever they can behind closed doors to further the aims of the Emperor.
