Private The Need for Speed

"No, we don't need fire or anything. I like the clean design of your speeder."

There was no reason to complicate it, in his mind. He hummed as he looked over what he had attached before looking up to Valery again. He spoke about not wanting flames, but, the gremlin was strong in him.

"When I turn on the boost we should make the lights change red."

Valery grinned, "That's my boy. We'll make them go red in a sequence, so it looks like you're charging up before you blast off." She had no idea how to do it, but it didn't matter! The holo-net had more than enough information to figure it out, and this was something for her son. She'd get zapped ten times more if it meant helping him get his board ready for the next race. A race she'd either participate in herself or watch.

Cheering him on from the sidelines and bringing the little ones along to watch did sound nice, too.

"Anything else you want on your board, sweetie?"

"Hmm.. I don't know. The lights and the boost are enough, I think. This is good. It's just, making sure that it's all wired up, I guess?"

Aris stepped back, tilting his head. The board itself looked just about ready now, which meant.. Testing? Probably testing. Once all the wiring was complete anyway. He ran a hand over the board one last time, smoothing out the metal to ensure it was all solid and ready. Braced enough so it wouldn't shatter or break under the high speed. this was good. Really good.

Valery dipped her head, "Once it's wired up, it should be ready to go. We'll have to test carefully, though." She looked at the board and ran a hand along its surface. "It's well-made, but companies don't spend months testing vehicles they put on the market for no good reason. There's always a chance we made a mistake, and I don't want you to get hurt." Especially the boost was a risk. It put a lot more strain on the board and if he were to fall...

Well, he was a Jedi, so he'd probably be alright. But it'd give her a heart attack.

"Test slowly, alright? If not for your own safety, please do it for my heart's sake?" She smirked and patted him on the shoulder, her eyes still focused on his board. "We made something awesome, huh?"

"Slow defeats the purpose of a boost. Everything's already worked, so.. Just the boost to test."

Aris wanted to go fast. It was pretty obvious by the little smile on his face as he took up the board to practically run outside. He was actually even more excited than he was with the initial ride on the original board. He kicked it on, let it float up as he balanced on it.

There was some actual testing he did to ensure all was well, rather than just blitzing off immediately. Mom was right that they should make sure it wasn't going to mess up while he was speeding along, but there was some impatience there. He wanted to go fast.

Valery pouted. Maybe there was one disadvantage to her children inheriting her gremlin behavior - going slow was boring to them. Especially now, with a new board and a boost option, he wanted to go fast and she knew she couldn't really stop him. He ran outside with his board, and she felt her heart melting.

He was having fun, the way a kid his age should.

"Fine, fine," she grumbled. "Show me how fast it goes and use the boost. I want to see it in action."

He didn't need to be told twice.

Aris clicked on the boost in an instant, crouched, and sped right off from where he had comparably been lazily floating. Truly sped off. There was a woosh of air that nearly sent even Aris off his board as he hadn't expected the speed, but he resettled back in his stance and just, grinned. Grinned so very wide as he raced across the open grass. He was having an absolute blast. No, that was an understatement.

He seemed to have found his need for speed.

"Hey!" A sudden rush of air blew Valery's hair up as he sped off, leaving it rather messy when it settled down. With a puff of air from her lips, she blew long strands from her face and watched her son already far ahead. In what felt like a split-second, he had turned into a small blip on the horizon.

He was going fast.

"...and he thought Golems were cool," Valery said rather smugly to herself. She was totally going to brag when he got home with Vera, even if their project was really impressive as well.

But Golems couldn't go fast.

"Circle back around!"

He leaned over to grip the board and pulled. Was it the best way to turn? No, no it was not. Did it make him turn suddenly and all at once? Absolutely. Very, certainly, absolutely. Aris let out a wild laugh at the sudden shift of gravitational forces on him which threatened to throw him clear off. It didn't, of course, but he was still giggling like crazy by the time he came back to stop before Valery.

"I like speed."

"I can tell," Valery said with a playful roll of her eyes when he returned. "You might be a clone of your father, but I'd argue that you're more like me now." She flashed a rather proud grin at that. She had converted someone timid and without much social understanding into a gremlin.

Perhaps her proudest Mom moment yet.

"Do you want to go for another ride with it? Or bring it back home?"

xiqfVVX.png

"Well you are my mom." Aris canted his head to the side as he halted his board just before Valery. He hummed in thought. Another ride? He did, but, wasn't it getting late? He looked over to the sky, towards where the sun was setting. Then, just grinned anyway.

"Let's try a night ride."

A night ride?

It was riskier because the mountains and much of the surrounding territory had no lighting. Aris didn't quite possess Danger Sense either, so would it be safe for him? Valery's motherly side didn't think so, but she was still a Noble.

He was a Noble.

"Alright but no boost in the mountains. Just to be safe." It had worked and it was likely that their engineering project worked out well, but they definitely needed to test it more. Away from cliffs and deadly boulders.

"Do you want to lead the way this time?"

xiqfVVX.png

"No boost."

He agreed, for the moment. Unlike a majority of his siblings, he didn't have the Keshain darkvision that Valery herself did. And yet, he was still all for it. He grinned wider still as he lowered on his board to be ready to go off. He'd lead the way, as she suggested. While he couldn't see as well as she could, he still had quite the vision of his own. He was fast. Not boost fast, but fast regardless as he made his way up the path. He was excited for this. The path was beautiful.

Off he went. Without a boost, but his new board was incredibly fast even without it. It forced Valery to accelerate further on her bike to keep up, though that wasn't just because of his new board. Aris knew how to race — he was a Noble — and he loved going fast.

So, as the sun began to set, Mother and son blasted off into the mountains.

This would be a day she'd remember.
