Lucien Vale
The Ringmaster
“My dear guest, you have absolutely nothing to fear. Everything has it's price, of course, but that hardly means that you cannot enjoy yourself in the meantime.” ~ Lucien Vale 'The Ringmaster of the Midnight Carnival'
IC: A mysterious Carnival from the Netherworld appears without warning. It might materialize in the middle of a city, on an abandoned military installation, in a remote settlement, or vast field of crops. Nobody knows where it came from. Nobody remembers seeing it arrive. It's lights are beautiful. It's music is enchanting. It's attractions promise to fulfill the deepest desires of anyone who enters.
But there's something terribly wrong.
The Carnival's employees have no reflections. It's fortune-tellers know things that they couldn't possibly know. It's hall of mirrors shows visitors things that haven't happened yet; or things that happened to someone else.
And some of the people who enter never come out.
The best part? Everyone has a reason to visit!
Jedi: They sense something deeply unnatural about the Carnival, or perhaps they're searching for someone who disappeared inside.
Sith: The Carnival promises power, knowledge, or the opportunity to confront an enemy in a way that shouldn't be possible.
Imperials: They're investigating a security breach, pursuing a fugitive, or attempting to establish control over an unexplained phenomenon.
Rebels: Someone has disappeared, and the Carnival may be connected to an Imperial experiment, or perhaps they're simply trying to rescue civilians.
Criminals: There's money to be made, a valuable artifact to steal, or a mysterious proprietor offering an irresistible deal.
Bounty hunters: Someone has a price on their head, and the Carnival is the last place they were seen.
Of course, they don't all have to enter for the same reason!
The attractions include:
Objective 1 - The Hall of Mirrors: Characters encounter alternate versions of themselves. Perhaps one is a version who made a different decision, became a different person, or committed an act they would never ordinarily consider.
Objective 2 - The House of Lost Souls: Characters encounter someone from their past. It could be a dead friend, a former lover, a parent, a former master, or even an enemy. Is the person real? Are they an illusion? Or simply something pretending to be them?
Objective 3 - The Fortune Teller: A mysterious figure offers to reveal one truth about a character's future. It could be your own, or someone elses.
Objective 4 - The Freak Show: Visitors discover that the performers are not necessarily willing participants. Some appear to be ordinary people. Others are things that should not exist.
Objective 5 - BYOO: Bring in your own story!
Words of Warning: Everyone who tries to leave before their bargain with the Carnival and Lucien Vale is complete discovers that the Carnival has no exit. Or that the exit leads somewhere entirely different from where they entered.
OOC: Good evening!
'Tis the season for a spooky story! I've had this concept in mind for a while now, but wanted to wait until it was closer to Halloween to drop it in here. This is just a little fun event for anyone and everyone. If there's enough interest, I'll start it next week!
