The Legion’s (Diarchy Armed Forces)

The Diarchy Armed Forces are the primary military branch of the Diarchy. They exist to defend Diarchal space, project force beyond its borders, and conduct war with a clear understanding of necessary violence.

The Legions are an active, experienced military. It has fought prolonged ground wars, occupation campaigns, urban sieges, trench warfare, counterinsurgency operations, and large-scale planetary invasions. Its authority is earned through performance, sacrifice, and results.

This is where the security of the Diarchy is paid for in blood, sweat, and years of service. The Legion does not shy away from being brutal on the battlefield if it means that those at home will never experience that brutality themselves.

A Proven Warrior Institution
The Diarchy is a warrior society because it has had to be. There have been constant threats and attacks against our space since our conception.

Service in the Armed Forces is openly honored within Diarchal culture. Soldiers are not hidden from the public. Their victories, losses, and sacrifices are acknowledged directly. Memorials, ceremonies, and public remembrance are common, alongside social programs for the wounded and for families of the fallen.

All roles within the DAF are respected. Infantry, armor crews, pilots, engineers, medics, logistics officers, intelligence liaisons, and planetary reconstruction units are viewed as part of the same effort. Without them, Diarchal safety does not exist.

The Diarchy does not pretend peace is the natural state of the galaxy. The Legions exist because peace can only be controlled through violence.

External Role: War, Liberation, and Enforcement
The Legions are primarily outward-facing.

Its missions include:

  • Defense of Diarchal worlds against invasion

  • Planetary assaults and regime removal

  • Suppression of hostile military forces

  • Occupation and stabilization campaigns

  • Enforcement of Diarchal authority beyond its borders
The Diarchy does not deploy the Legions lightly. Once committed, withdrawal does not occur until objectives are met or the cost becomes unsustainable. This has resulted in long, grinding campaigns that have shaped the DAF’s culture into one that values endurance, coordination, and discipline.

Some within the DAF see themselves as liberators. Others see themselves as enforcers of order. Others struggle with both interpretations. All of that has a place in play. Have fun with your RP!

Relationship to the Diarchy Internal Security Force (DISF)
The Legion is not the primary internal police force of the Diarchy.

That role belongs to the Diarchy Internal Security Force (DISF).

The DISF functions as the Diarchy’s internal shield, its national guard, domestic security, and internal counterinsurgency arm. It is responsible for:

  • Internal rebellions and civil unrest

  • Terrorist activity and organized crime

  • Internal counterintelligence and security operations

  • Law enforcement during states of emergency
The Legions may be deployed internally, but this is usually rare. It indicates that a world has entered full-scale war conditions.

This division is intentional. It prevents the Armed Forces from becoming a permanent occupying presence within Diarchal society and preserves civilian trust.

Organization and Doctrine

The Diarchy Armed Forces operate under centralized command with decentralized execution.

Orders are clear. Objectives are defined. Field commanders are trusted to adapt to conditions on the ground.

Doctrine emphasizes:

  • Combined arms warfare

  • Urban and trench combat proficiency

  • Long-term occupation readiness

  • Integration with Brotherhood assets and intelligence elements

  • Civilian protection once control is established
When leadership commits the DAF, commanders are expected to do what is necessary to complete the mission. Tactical discretion is permitted. It is bloody work but a noble cause.

Playing in the DAF
DAF characters are not required to be unquestioning heroes.

They may be:

  • Soldiers who believe deeply in liberation

  • Officers burdened by the cost of intervention

  • Veterans carrying pride, guilt, or both

  • Support personnel enabling campaigns far from home
The DAF exists as a space for military-focused stories of all scales. New units, auxiliary forces, mercenary attachments, and planetary defense formations are always welcome. Do not hesitate to create stories. Mold this to your imagination!

You are not limited by role. Military characters may also be governors, delegates, or rulers of worlds. The Diarchy values merit and service in all forms.
