OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: The Legend of Hecr be Marerlu'or
  • Format: Word of Mouth
  • Distribution: Scattered (Mandalorian Worlds or words with Mandalorian populatons)
  • Length: Short
  • Description: A tale thousands of years old, "The Legend of Hecr be Marelu'or" has been told time and time again by Mandalorian parents to their unruly children and around battlefield campfires by military commanders. The battle they describe is never the same and its true origin has been lost to time. The main constants of this dark and frightening tale describe a giant Cycle Owl with wings black as night flying over battlefield after battlefield, draining what life remains from warriors left to die and barring their souls entry to the Manda.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: The Mandalorian People
  • Publisher: N/A
  • Reception: A much loved ghost story on Mandalorian battlegrounds and with parents and older siblings attempting to frighten children.
CONTENT INFORMATION
"The Legend of Hecry be Marelu'or" is the tale of a Cycle Owl gone mad from colossal loss of life. The mad Cycle Owl then descends upon the battlefield draining the life of all still alive in the area. A death in this manner bars a Mandalorian from entering the Manda, the oversoul equivalent to the Mandalorian afterlife and the collective state of being for all Mandalorian souls after death. A modified version of the story is told to unruly children, trading the horrible war story for an omnipotent monster who lives in the forests and desert hills of Mandalore and will snatch you away if you stay out too late at night.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
First seeing circulation sometime after the battle of Malachore V during the Mandalorian wars, it describes what some Jedi consider an extreme and bizarre case of Force Drain used by a Force sensitive Cycle Owl in an attempt to keep itself alive during intense and massive losses of life. Many Mandalorians and crypto-zoologists believe that the creature described in these tales exist, somewhere in the Galaxy.
