Name: Lapanguis

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Alc (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Alc)

Language:
Guis- A language spoken only by the Lapanguis species. The noises made originate from a particular gland found in the throat of all types of Lapanguis. This gland is completely unique to the Lapanguis and therefore no other species can speak this language. With much time and observation, this langauge can be learnt. Some keepers of the Lapanguis have learnt to understand basic phrases of this language and are moving onto more complex phrases.

Average height of adults: 2.2 metres (7 feet 2 inches)

Skin color:
Most common colours: Murky Green, Light Brown
Rare Colours: Dark Yellow, Black

Hair color: No hair

Breathes: Type 2

Strengths: [2 minimum]
Bite- The Lapanguis have a recorded bite force of 15,000 newtons. This is an extremely high biting force and helps the species to rip / tear meat from their prey. This bute force is only achievable because of the large muscles located around the jaw and mouth. These muscles are constantly trying contract, meaning that there is continuous force closing the top and bottom jaw together.
Eyesight / Night Vision- This species is renown for their impressive eyesight, especially at night. The Lapanguis’ night vision is only possible because of the large amount of photoreceptor, rod cells that are found in the retina. These rod cells are very sensitive to light and are the primary reason for the night vision.
Osteoderms- Osteoderms are small bone deposits that sit under the skin forming armoured scales, plates or other bone structures. These Osteoderms are particularly thick and heavy on the backs of the Lapanguis, creating a armoured layer that can withstand various low caliber Slugthrower rounds. However this armour is lacking at the belly / stomach of species, risking damage on vital internal organs.

Weaknesses:
Jaws- As the jaws muscles are constantly trying to close, when they are closed the Lapanguis finds it particularly hard to open the jaws again.
Belly- Unlike the other parts of their body, the Lapanguis' belly has a lower deposit of Osteoderms. This allows for them to broken and the scales penetrate very easily, because many of the internal organs are located behind the Osteoderms around the belly, a penetration there could be potentially fatal.
Agressive- The Lapanguis species have been recorded to be extremely agressive towards all their prey and when in a battle situation they are unlikely to give up before their opponent is dead. They are also very territorial and often kill anyone or anything that trespasses onto land they own or have claimed.
Night Vision- Because of the sensitivity of their eyes and the amount of photoreceptors, Lapanguis' are often stunned by bright lights or if there is a sudden change in lighting. They do eventually adjust to the light they are faced with, but before this happens they aren't able to see anything. This was a tactic used by the hunters when they were looking to capture the Lapanguis species.

Distinctions:
Large Tail- The Lapanguis’ tail makes up 29.6% of the total length of the animal. It is lined with spike scales that are tougher than the ones lining the body. Though these spikes are tough, they are not sharp enough to be used as a weapon. The tail almost entirely consists muscles and is key limb in helping the Lapanguis swim.

Average Lifespan: 125 years (1,095,726 hours)

Races:
The only variations between these two race are physical, they share very similar if not identical social and cultural attributes.

Petra Vermis-
This race is the most common throughout the whole of the Lapanguis. They are almost exactly similar to the other races, however it has been noted this specific race is know to have softer and less protective scales. These scales are most commonly found in a dark or dirty green colour.

Tenebris Praelia-
This race of the Lapanguis is the rarest of the two and is also thought to be on the verge of extinction. The race feature much rougher scales than the Petra Vermis and is found in dark yellow or black. The Tenebris Praelia also have a larger muscle mass, making this race slightly stronger than the Petra Vermis race.

Estimated Population:
Petra Vermis: 100,000
Tenebris Praelia: 7,500-10,000

Diet:
The entire species of Lapanguis are carnivores, meaning that they only eat meat. This diet is only possible through the use of their extremely powerful jaws and teeth, along with the help of a very strong digestive system. This strong digestive system also allows the Lapanguis species to eat all types of food, including raw meat.

Communication:
The primary communication method of the Lapanguis is there language Guis. However they also use facial and hand expression to reinforce their emotions, much like Humans.

Culture:
Palus Day
One of the most important days for the Lapanguis species, Palus Day signifies the day a new tribe is created. The idea of this holiday was that each tribe celebrates it on a different particular day. However as the Lapanguis have not discovered a way of telling the date, they celebrate the holiday whenever they feel like it. Each celebration consists of a hunt where the Lapanguis hunt for a large creature so they can begin the holidays feast. After 10 Palus holidays have gone by, the tribe leader must sacrifice himself and elect a new leader. This ceremony takes place to show the purity of the tribe and to primarily replace the older, weaker leader with a newer, stronger one.

Apart from Palus Day, there isn't any other holidays that the Lapanguis species celebrate as a whole. Separate tribes have been known to celebrate different holidays and special days similar to that of Human birthdays. The reason many tribes do not celebrate all the same holidays is due to the fact that food supple is almost constantly sparse and therefore they cannot afford to provide a feast, which is a tradition for all Lapanguis’ special occasions.

Technology level:
The Lapanguis have become adept tool craftsmen and are very capable of producing high quality wooden tools. They have also been exploring the crafting of metal tools through the use of simple sand casting methods but because they have only just started production of these tools they are not at the same quality as their wooden tools.

Typical housing for the Lapanguis consists of mostly wooden structures that incorporate the use of natural resources such as rocks and trees. As the Lapanguis’ habitat is mainly damp jungles and swamps, it is difficult to sustain the the wooden structures as they often begin to mould and rot as the species are not able to produce anti-weathering chemicals to prevent this. Because of the wooden structures and the damp environment, the Lapanguis cannot build large structures in the hope that they will last, so they stick to building small cabins.

General behavior:
For as long as they existed, the Lapanguis have been hunters and fighters, as have needed to kill for food. This history has made the species naturally hyper-aggressive towards anything that isn't a Lapanguis and sometimes even any Lapanguis is not apart of the same tribe. On the other hand, the Lapanguis has also been seen as caring creatures towards their young and often over-defensive.

History:
The history of all Lapanguis’ started in the jungles and swamps of the planet Alc. The species evolved from a four legged reptilian, which was very similar to the Lapanguis in terms of behaviour and many physical attributes. Even with their shared history, both species hunted each other until the population of both of them was sparse. Now, there is only an estimated 110,000 Lapanguis left and even less of the four legged variant.

As the Lapanguis have lived on the unexplored planet Alc for their entire species’s history, they have not encountered any presence from any animal that is isn’t native to the planet and therefore they have lived in partial peace. The only conflict that arose was a civil war in one of the largest tribes in the species’s history. This conflict lasted for 250 days and another main cause for the low number of Lapanguis left. After the war, the population was almost halved and the once large and powerful tribe was completely destroyed. This war is never spoken off throughout all Lapanguis tribes and the battlefield where this took place has never been returned to.

The Lapanguis now live in almost perfect peace with each other, on a tribal basis but tensions can grow during times of little food and the holiday Palus Day as the tribes compete with one another for the biggest feast. In the rare situation where a human does walk on Alc’s surface, it is uncommon for them to see a Lapanguis due to the small numbers. However, recently in a small exploration of the planet’s wildlife, the search teams found a tribe of Lapanguis and many of them were removed and exported from the planet to be sold to wildlife collectors as they are classed as a endangered/rare species. Fortunately for the remaining Lapanguis, they have not be taken from the planet Alc and can still live independently from the rest of the Galaxy.

Notable Player-Characters: None
Intent: To create a new species for an untouched and unknown world, while also giving the site a new species that can be RPed with.

I've always liked crocodilians.

Question: is their eyes are so sensitive to light, would that be a weakness as well? (I.E If someone shined a bright light in their eyes)

Other then that, it looks good. I like these guys.

I like this a lot.

One question is with the language. I get that other races can't speak it because it's a unique biological arrangement, but can others learn to understand it? IE, wookiees can understand basic, but they can't physically speak it, the same the other way. Han Solo can understand Chewbacca, but he can't speak it.

Let's clear that up and then this'll be ready to go.
