GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Army Name: The Imperial Legion (Official)
The Grand Army of the Sith Empire [GASE] (Unofficial)
  • The Sword and Shield of the Sith (Unofficial)

[*]Classification: Land-based Branch of the Sith-Imperial Military
[*]Affiliation: The Sith Empire
[*]Army Symbol: The symbol of the Imperial Legion is the Sith-Imperial Crest overtop a pair of crossed swords, and is displayed on all official Legion material; uniforms, banners, etc.
[*]Description: The Imperial Legion is the branch of the Sith Empire's military tasked with prosecuting ground-based military operations. Most of the Legion's soldiers are conscripted through mandatory military service, though there is a sizable percentage of the Legion that is made up of willing volunteers.

At the very core of the Legion's concept is the idea that a fighting force should be entirely self-sufficient, capable of operating independently from a central authority and without a great deal of material support from the homeland. A single force may operate effectively alone, but when they operate together, coordinating the actions of many forces they employ significant synergy, becoming vastly more than the sum of their parts.

The Legion exists to enact the will of the Emperor and the Empire in the greater Galaxy as a whole. These forces are active, self-reliant, encourage creativity, problem-solving and allow economically efficient battlegroups to respond or affect multiple sectors at once. In these ways, they embody those values that the Sith hold most dear, and are a fitting reflection of the Empire. The Legion as an official entity exists to defend the Empire’s holdings and special operations, but also as an expeditionary task force, exploring and securing new territory, both against enemy forces and the forces of nature.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Headquarters: Ord Radama
  • Goals:
Preserving the peace and security and providing for the defense of the Sith Empire, its vassal states, possessions, and any areas occupied by the Sith Empire.
  • Supporting national policies.
  • Implementing national objectives.
  • Overcoming any nations or territories responsible for aggressive acts that imperil the peace and security of the Sith Empire.

[*]Reputation: The Imperial Legion is viewed with pride and respect among the civilians of the Sith Empire, and is seen as one of the ultimate expressions of patriotism and loyalty that one can pursue. Military service is mandatory within the Sith Empire, with children as young as eight being conscripted into an Imperial Youth program to plant the seeds of Sith-Imperialism in their malleable minds. Near constant propaganda has instilled a deep reverence for hero worship of high-ranking officers within the Legion, while those who have fallen in combat are virtually deified as martyrs in the constant struggle against the anarchic powers of chaos and democracy.

  • Organization:
The leader of the Imperial Legion is the Supreme General, the Military Executor of All Sith-Imperial Ground Forces both within and without the Sith Empire. This position is held for life when appointed, and can only be vacated by death or dismissal by joint decision between the Sith Emperor and the Shadow Hand.
This position is currently held by Supreme General Brutus Mallear.

[*]Beneath the Supreme General are the Lord Generals, masters of the battlefield and cunning strategists who comprise the Legion's High Command. They oversee large scale campaigns, formulate strategies in both war and peace, and ensure that the quality of the Empire's army never dulls.

[*]Multiple Generals serve under the Lord Generals and act as high-ranking intermediaries between the subsequent organization divisions within a Lord General's Army. Typically, Generals serve as the highest authority within a given campaign as the Lord Generals are often preoccupied with strategy and logistics and prefer to delegate command down the chain
  • PMgXOix.png

[*]As one moves down the Legion chain of command, the number of individuals possessing each subsequent rank grows larger and larger. Each descending rank serves in a subordinate advisory and intermediary role to the rank above them similar to how the Generals show deference to the Lord Generals, and the Lord Generals to the Supreme General.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Imperial Legion was formed immediately following the transformation of the Sith Ascendancy into the Sith Empire, the existing martial force of the Ascendancy serving as the bedrock. Ranks and organizational units were reformed and restructured to better embody the Empire's philosophy of a well-trained, highly organized, and efficient fighting force that would serve as the backbone of its Imperialist conquests throughout the Tingel Arm. Coupled with the reorganization of the Imperial Armada, the Sith Empire was quickly able to establish total dominance in the region and prove its strength against once greater powers like the Dominion and the Silver Jedi Order.

As the Empire moved further into the Galactic West, the Legion moved with it. New academies and strongholds were erected at key strategic locations along ancient hyperspace routes, primarily at the intersection of well-traveled hyperlanes. Ord Radama was chosen as the headquarters of the Imperial Legion due to its status as the world once conquered by Darth Malgus, one of the Legion's own deified idols, many thousands of years ago during the Great Galactic War (3681 BBY-3653 BBY)

Most recently, the Imperial Legion carried out multiple large-scale military operations across the galaxy such as Operation Eclipse, the Conquest of the Gree Enclave, the Siege of Commenor, the Liberation of the Chiss Ascendancy, the Punitive Expedition to Pantora, and Operation Hammerfall.

This is, as usual a very well written submission, and as is the norm with submissions fleshing out The Sith Empire, you've obviously spent a lot of time fleshing out this submission.

However, before we go forward, there is a point I want to raise with you, namely the size of the army.

Darth Carnifex said:
Army Size: Huge 8,775,000,000,000~ Military Personnel

The army size you are describing is 9 trillion military personnel, to put that into context. According to Wookie the population of Coruscant is over One Trillion, source, while wikipedia puts the population of the planet at approximately 2 Trillion, source. So in essence you are describing an army which is between 4.5 and 9 times the population of the most densely populated planet in the galaxy.

To further expand on this, the Galactic Empire, the largest political entity which existed in the history of Star Wars is known, according to Star Wars: Uprising, to have 25,000 Star Destroyers. According to Ultimate Star Wars (page 291) each Star Destroyer contained 45,000 troopers. This puts the space borne storrm trroopers at roughly 1 billion, even if we double this to take into account troopers deployed on the ground in various embassies and other guises that would leave us with roughly 2 billion troopers. The Galactic Empire controlled territory far in excess of the current factions on the board, but even at their height there military never came close to reaching the kind of numbers you're describing here.

Remember, Coruscant required near constant shipments of supplies coming in to feed the population of the planet, so even if at the best case you're talking about a military 4.5 times the size of the planetary population the logistical exersice of feeding them all and supplying them would be an incredible undertaking, especially since it would have to be solely funded off the back of the empire itself.

Not to mention, deployment of this military would be an overwhelming force that would also be almost impossible to handle.

I would strongly suggest scaling back the size of this military into something more reasonable, closer to the numbers I have described here.

The Sith Empire has an estimated total population of 30 trillion sentient beings living within its borders, comparable to the population of the Sith Empire in SWTOR.

Being a highly militarized state, military service is mandatory and enforced for all sentients of fighting age regardless of species of gender. The percentage of the population that is in the military, both Legion and Armada, is 45%. That's 13,500,000,000,000 (13 trillion 500 billion) sentients serving in every field from the lowliest field grunt to the upper echelons of High Command, and only 60% of that number is in the Imperial Legion; which would be the number mentioned above, 8,775,000,000,000 (8 trillion 775 billion). This number is spread roughly evenly across the entirety of the Sith Empire's territory, which encompasses hundreds of, if not over a thousand (I haven't gone through and counted them all yet), star systems. That's nearly 9 trillion soldiers subdivided into smaller units and more or less even distributed across that vast territory from Yaga Minor to Mon Cala, the majority of which are strictly defensive battle groups (around, again, a 60-40 percentage split between defensive and offensive respectively).

In total, the offensive capabilities of the Sith Empire are around 3,510,000,000,000 (3 trillion 510 billion), which has been achieved through a meritocratic system where the Sith conscript any and all warrior-age sentients without distinction between species or gender, meaning that aliens and women have a prominent identity within the Imperial Military and serve in virtually every layer of the military hierarchy. Instead of being a solely Humanocentric military, like the Galactic Empire was, the Sith Empire has a more massive pool of manpower to draw from. In an area of the galaxy as alien-rich as the Tingel Arm, this has allowed the Sith Empire to field noticeably larger numbers during a full draft period than a larger Empire during nearly two decades of peace time.

The policy and capabilities of the Sith Empire are not in question here, all that I'm questioning is the size of hte numbers being placed in this submission. The truth of the matter is that no-one can truly know the size of hte Sith Empire or the population contained within, especially since the majority of the faction's territory is located in the Tingel Arm. Wookiepedia states that the Tingel Arm is 'The Tingel Arm was an exterior arm of the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories.' (x). In reference to the outer rim itself it says that the Outer Rim was a 'sparsely populated region of the galaxy' (x). Any numbers ascribed to these territories are just guesswork, and not something that we are in a position to argue since that is not the basis of this submission, nor do we have any basis for supposition here. Furthermore the 30 Trillion estimate you are using is not drawn from any source I am aware of, since The Old Republic never gave us a population estimate.

Treating the submission on it's own merit then, I once again have to point out the incredible size of this army. If it is spread out across across the sith territory as you state then a series of submissions for each smaller unit might be a possible idea. However, even in that case, a total military size of 9 billion is much more reasonable than the 9 trillion which you are suggesting here. Another option that you could take, and this might be the easiest one, is to just drop the hard numbers from the submission altogether and rely on the rating alone. However, before I am able to approve this submission, I am going to have to insist that you adjust the submission according to one of the options laid out above.
