The Illusion of Understanding

Defiance, Malachor V
Sometime at night

Xariah knew Malachor V wasn't a particularly pretty planet and if she hadn't had a reason for being here, she would've never made the trip. But now that she walked the streets of the city of Defiance, she even contemplated cancelling her meeting and leaving again as quickly as she could. The place was depressing and dark, even after the Sith Empire came in and claimed the planet. Things had improved somewhat, but nothing would fully heal this broken planet. Still, the young woman knew that there was much to learn here. Understanding the entirety of the Force and all it encompassed was perhaps a goal that was a bit too great for someone to achieve, but that wouldn't stop her from at the very least learning as much as she could. It was all simply fascinating, how it tied everything together, how those sensitive to it were able to channel it to do almost anything.

But the Force did not consist of just wonderous and fascinating things. There were things many people wanted to pretend didn't exist. The Dark side was often used in destructive ways, and Malachor V was a grim reminder of that fact. The feeling that washed over her was sobering; even at age 17 Xariah was no stranger to the fact the galaxy wasn't exactly a stable and innocent place, but this place was much, much worse than anything she had witnessed before. Not in an on-the-nose kind of way, but something much more sinister. A creeping feeling, one that was very much unsettling. Perhaps going here without Xarielle hadn't been a smart decision. Still, there wasn't much she could've done about that now.

As the brunette approached the outskirts of the city she intuitively grazed her hand past a metal cylinder that was clipped to her belt, making sure it was still there. Mirari, the lightsaber that her mother Kaalia had passed down to her, was more than just a weapon to her. It had her mother's aura to it, and it was almost like a piece of home she could take with her wherever she went. It was comforting feeling, even if it wasn't really the same thing. Life was simply too busy at the moment to plan a trip to Dromund Kaas however, so she treasured anything that reminded her of her family. She'd give her parents a holocall when she had time.

For now however, there was no time to sit still. A Sith Lady by the name of [member="Vanessa Vantai"] had contacted her, the reason without doubt being the fact she was the daughter of another Lady of the Sith. Xariah herself did not walk that same path, but she still had much to learn and this was a great opportunity to do so.

Still, she was getting off this planet the moment her business here was finished.

A slight wisp, a nudge of a sort, would poke at [member="Xariah Pavanos"]. A hint of direction, of where to turn. Vanessa was hidden within the crowds of the city, wearing one of her many disguises. It was fortunate that such illusions were rarely if ever penetrated. The nudges would hint at Xariah to travel to the outskirts of town and acquire a form of hovercraft, intended to lead her to a desolate area that was effectively abandoned on the planet - a laboratory within the ruins of the old Trayus Academy, half-embedded in a hillside after the world’s reconstruction.

Vanessa was waiting for her there, having preplanned for her new student’s arrival with a flourish when she was to enter the ruins housing the still dusty and mostly disused laboratory.
